In a significant escalation of the long-standing conflict between Israel and Palestine, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the country to be “at war” on Saturday.
This announcement came after Palestinian militants in Gaza launched a large-scale assault involving a barrage of rockets and ground incursions into Israeli territory, , CNN reported.
The surprise attack, which began early Saturday morning, resulted in at least 40 deaths and over 779 injuries, according to Israel’s rescue service Magen David Adom (MDA). The scale and scope of the assault are unprecedented in recent history.
Approximately 2,200 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel starting at 6:30 a.m., as per the Israeli military. Concurrently, armed gunmen infiltrated across the border in a ground assault into southern Israel. Explosions were heard over Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and in southern Israel, with air raids forcing Israelis to seek shelter underground.
Netanyahu stated that operations were underway to clear out militants from infiltrated towns and that he had also issued a call-up of reservists. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released video footage of airstrikes on Hamas in Gaza.
Hamas claimed to have captured several Israeli soldiers near the border after its fighters entered Israel by land, sea, and air using paragliders. However, Israel’s military has not confirmed these reports.
Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif dubbed the operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” and stated that the group had targeted enemy positions, airports, and military positions with 5,000 rockets. He added that the assault on Israel was a response to attacks on women, the desecration of the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, and the ongoing siege of Gaza.
IDF spokesman Lt Col Richard Hecht confirmed that Israeli forces were currently engaged in ground combat. He listed several locations where fighting was taking place, including villages, army bases, and border crossings.
Residents of Kibbutz Beeri and Kibbutz Nir Oz reported attempts by assailants from Gaza to break into their homes. One resident described how his family had barricaded themselves in a safe room while militants fired at their door.
The current conflict marks a major escalation on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 War in which Arab states blitzed Israel on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

You watch too much CNN news. It is slanted in Israel’s favour. What Israel does is to bomb residential homes with innocent civilians. Then to justify the slaughter of women, children, babies, they falsely accused the militant group of using the unarmed civilians as human shield.
Israel also want to start a war with Iran with US help. So they accuse Iran of supplying Hamas with weapons and involvement in the planning of the attacks without the hard facts. They do these two things every time there is a flare up of tensions between them and Hamas.
Hamas fighters are mostly in tunnels and hideouts. The only thing Israel can do is to flatten residential homes, kill hundreds and thousands of innocent Palestinians, and call it a war against terrorism. Hello and good afternoon my people. Well many people will be killed on both sides but the fact remain that . The Palestinian have a right to resist Israel occupation which is supported by America. America is currently occupying parts of Syria and Iraq but they are supplying arms to Ukraine to resist Russia partial occupation. Israel has over three hundred nuclear weapons but they complain about Iran nuclear program even though Iran don’t have any nuclear weapons. To solve this problem Israel must end its occupation and the Palestinians must have their independent country.
The Americans MUST take the bulk of the blame for the present atrocities between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
The United States has repeatedly vetoed many resolutions passed by the UN Security Council for ending the illegal and inhumane occupation of the Palestinian territories. They have supplied Israel with the most sophisticated weapons plus billions of dollars every year to boost their military strength. In fact, Israel has once boasted that it has the survivability of a super power.
America has condoned and even supported unprovoked attacks by Israel on the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq. Their reason is Israel has the right to protect itself. Don’t the Palestinians have the right to their freedom? First of all you refer to a palestinian “homeland”. Where is that? Was there ever a palestinian nation there? Or anywhere? The answer is no. That land has always been the ancient and historic home of the Jewish people who were dreiven out by wicked men in centuries past. At some point in the past, with the Jews driven out, Arabs from Jordan and surrounding countries came to live in the land. They are the interlopers. If I vacate my house for a few years for whatever reason, it’s still my house, no one has the right to occupy my property or claim it as theirs.
