President of the Dominica Calypso Association Gregory ‘Karessah’ Riviere has said the Calypso Semi-Finals competition scheduled to take place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on January 31 will be “bigger” and “better” this year.
He was delivering remarks at the weekly Carnival press conference held on Thursday.
“We had a very successful Calypso Quarter-Finals and of course, the songs were great,” he said. “We had great entertainment, and strong patronage. Lots of eats and drinks and of course, with everything, there are one or two things that we have to improve on. And we definitely took note so that this semifinals will be bigger and better.”
The 20 Calypsonians who will move on to the semi-finals are, Mystrie, Nacheal, The Bobb, Karessah, Jaydee, Tasha P, Webb, Checker, Royette, Observer, Abiyah Yisrael, Redz, Lady Esse, Sandy, Trendsetter, Mighty D, Kalfa P, Checko, Daddy Chess, Sye. The reserves are Liberator, Shadow Flow and Jamma B.
“So we are going to the stadium and we are going to bring you a completely new experience at the stadium,” he said. “This, of course, will provide for general seating. We will also have a party VIP with seating. And of course, persons who want to jump and wave on the grounds, we have accommodations for that as well.”
Riviere stated that the association is working on ensuring that all physical tickets will be available to vendors.
“So you can pick up your tickets at Bullseye, Depex, or of course, at the Calypso office,” he revealed.” Now, our prices, very, very cheap as usual.”
He said the Party VIP with seating is $130, general seating for $70 and regular $60.
“And of course, if you want to purchase your tickets in advance, you can only get it for only $50,” Riviere revealed.
Furthermore, he stated that patrons who may not be able to come to the show for one reason or the other can take advantage of the pay-per-view package for US$20.
He encouraged the general public to continue to support calypso and the Tents.
Special guest performance will come from Bouyon Artist Quann and Company.
The Calypso Semi-Finals competition is scheduled to begin 8.30 PM.

I want the value so competitions to be the biggest and the best this year. My reason is to send an unmistakable message to narcissists like Dice that his wilful absence does not affect the quality of calypso (shows) in Dominica.
The man’s head has gotten swollen. Thinks of himself as indispensable in the calypso arena. Can’t even pen a song for himself. Calypso is the only thing he has going for him. So, by boycotting the competition, is like holding red, hot charcoal in your hands and expect it to burn someone else.
The message is loud and clear. No one is indispensable. There are many indispensable people in the cemetery.

Is he deliberately staying away, or is he stuck in another jurisdiction because of that country’s new aggressive immigration policies? At least that’s what was relayed to me. Nonetheless, I would not be so harsh, but I do share your view on the individual. I had experiences with him both in Guadeloupe and New York, and he is definitely not the great individual people are making him out to be. Too much attention makes a donkey think he’s a lion. I agree with you about Dice but let me fill you in on some context,
Ego is a massively hypocritical parasite who has been as bad or worse than the people he is criticizing. I’ve silently seen this over the years and I’m purposely leaving details out.
I made the effort to ignore never responding barely commenting in general, until he literally commented it was “none of (my) damn business” to comment on a public site for a comment that wasn’t even about him – so massive was his ego he took offense over a stranger’s comment. That’s bullying and sickness as this site does not belong to him and now I remind him of that regularly. I’m much more vocal now especially to callout selfish hypocrites like him that rights are not for them alone.
We like to call out the low hanging fruit of “big evil” but weak evil is just as bad or worse when they get even a little power, we sell ourselves short if we say we can’t call out both.
My point: Dice wasnt so big once if we had checked him early on a standard of values maybe things would be different.
Standards means applying our values consistently to everyone.
What exactly are you bitter about? Dice isn’t participating in Calypso 2026 so what. All his haters should be happy that they actually have an opportunity to show themselves, but from what I’ve heard so far, not impressive at all. Shame on for coming on here to take personal shots on a performer.
