A stern warning has been issued to the Dominican public to avoid any form of violence during the 2023 Carnival season.
This was according to Deputy Police Chief Davidson Valerie.
He said the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force will be “aggressively pursuing anyone who engages in acts of violence to ensure that they are brought to justice.”
“No weapons will be permitted in the bands, no knives, ice picks, scissors, glass bottles, guns, or any instruments likely to cause harm to anyone will be permitted,” he warned. “There will be no tolerance of any form of violence in the bands.”
Valerie indicated that police officers will be deployed in increased numbers in an effort to effectively police the bands.
He also appealed to the public, not to engage in any activity that he or she will regret.
“Go out there and have some clean fun,” he urged.
Furthermore, Valerie said anyone found to be in violation of the Carnival order will be confronted and the necessary actions will be swiftly taken to deal with the offenses committed.
He went on to state that those persons who may intend to use the occasion for criminal acts, “we wish to warn you.”
“Do not go to the Carnival to engage in any criminal activity,” Valerie warned. “Allow patrons to revel freely and safely.”
He also urged parents to supervise their children and warn them against misconduct or violence.
“Men speak to your ladies, ladies speak to your men,” Valerie advised. “We should all engage our friends and family.”
He added, “Carnival should not be a time for violence and it will not be tolerated anywhere.”
Meanwhile, Acting Police Chief Lincoln Corbette has announced that police are in the process of putting together additional measures to address reports of domestic violence in Dominica.
He said details of these measures will be circulated at a later date.
“On the issue of domestic violence, the police force recorded a reduction in the number of reports in 2022 as compared to 2021,” he stated. “Notwithstanding this reduction, two homicides were recorded in 2022 of a domestic nature.”
Corbette said both of these reports have been solved and police officers have been directed to respond swiftly to reports of domestic violence.
You know, Mr.Valerie is a good man and officer whom I know cares about the security of the state. The guy only mistake is that he allowed himself to be used by some politicians especially Hon. Whiteless. Now people have a hard time believing his commitment but really the guy means well overall. Having said that I do wish we have a safe and enjoyable carnival.
May Molly the boowick grass be properly grazed by the visitng Toro from ATL.
One thing with Dominica Law Enforcement, they like to use brute force and aggression on unarmed civilians. Why they don’t use this same aggression to pursue leads to unsolved murders and other crimes? Why not continue to aggressively try to get evidence on the disappearance of little Kernisha?
The CDPF is as good as the politically appointed deplorable and shady characters that have been handpicked to manage it. The CDPC should be renamed the RSBM ( Roosevelt Skerrit Bootlicking Militia).
Hahahahahahaha….
For the good of the country and the residents, I sincerely hope that the rest of the carnival will conclude without incident.
Carnival is a time to let down your hair, let go of all your inhibitions, make merry and truly enjoy yourselves responsibly. This should be used as a welcomed respite from the insufferable harshness of life in Dominica.
Incident-free Carnival everyone!
