Both athletes have performed, any i can see both sides of the argument, but that’s how first time olympic gold medalist are celebrated. Did you all see the celebration in Africa for Letsil Tebogo? In fact, to be honest, Thea’s celebration was very “LOW SCALE”.
I will do something different by just asking Kavem to be consistent, and try to improve his average by scoring runs. Let your bat do the talking. Thats what Lara (my #1ranked greatest caribbean batsman did), that’s what Richards and the others did. Wanting a huge celebration like what Thea got does not happen anywhere in the world for a batter scoring a test century, so i 100% agree with Skerrit. Call upon KAVEM to keep scoring runs on a consistent basis instead.
KAVEM that’s what i want of you! SCORE RUNS CONSISTENTLY.
Just supposing that a Dominican author, at home or overseas, won the Booker Prize for Literature – and that’s within the realms of possibility. I wonder how the government would recognise the achievement.
If the work was considered critical, the author may be deemed a persona non grata, in his land of birth, as happened to V S Naipaul.
Roger, all I can say is that you are full of sh.. and bull dust. Always looking for something crap to say. Man, get a life.
Boy them UWP acolytes can lie.Chanderpaul was granted Dominican citizenship after he scored 116 in his 133rd test match in July 2011 at the Windsor Park against India.Where was he given the land and how much land? What was he given the keys to,house, car WHAT.
Skerrit brought us shame and disgrace around the world but Kavem Hodge made us proud again. Congrats to you Kavem and the people and Kalinago council for recognizing you!
When Chanderpaul scored a century in Dominica, that same afternoon Skerrit promised him Passport, land and keys. But here it is one of ours scored his first test century in England, against a very good bowling attack and against Wood that was bowling every delivery at over 90 mph, but not even a piece of land or a house with title, let alone a set of keys
I should also add that “ Thea LaFond immigrated to the United States at 5, living in New Jersey then Maryland, per her Olympics bio.Aug 4, 2024” So she didn’t learn her skills in Dominica, unlike Kavem Hodge who was born there, raised here and learned his skills here. So why was he not given ykind of recognition the government gave to Thea Lafond? I believe if he had gotten that kind of recognition not only would it motivate him, but it would inspire Alick Arthanaze and Ms the many other young Dominicans that are involved in cricket
Why, you ask? Response: His achievement, although noteworthy, simply does not match up to hers from any angle that you examine the two.
Let me start by congratulating Kavem Hodge for making me and all Dominicans proud. Also, I want to thank the Kalinago council for organizing such event, though I wish it the starting point was from the airport.
I am a fan of Thea Lafond, as she to is a Dominican and made all of us proud. I understand the reception she received upon arrival and she deserves every ounce of it. However, Kavem Hodge is just as proud. In fact I heard commentators mentioning Domininica when he scored that century, much more than when Thea won the gold. Not only that but Kavem is our baby, played his cricket as a child, for his schools, U13, U19, Dominica, Windwards and other regional teams and finally West Indies. In other words, we have been following him from childhood. So why did the government not give him a hero’s welcome when he arrived in Dominica, just as they did to Thea Lafond? Again, I am a fan of Thea Lafond and believe she deserves what she got. My point is, why was Kavem not recognized?
Recognized for what? you mean because he scored just a one hundred after he was dropped at 16 and looking at his scores before that century and after that century were all dismal, to say the least. Man, give me a break. No batsman in Dominica to date has gotten into Irvine Shillingford’s class. None, whatsoever. Both Hodge and Athanaze were failures against England and South Africa.
