Join us as we cover Dominican Gold medalist Thea Lafond-Gadson’s triumphant return to Dominica ahead of the motorcade and celebration rally tomorrow.
The coverage is expected to begin from 1:50 PM.
Live video link will be provided below courtesy of the Government Information Service of Dominica.
My issue is this: Whilst it is a great achievement, what exactly has it done for Dominica to merit a payment of $400,000 and a plot of land? Who paid for her to travel to Paris? Who benefits from her gold medal and prize.money except herself? s
So she is receiving public funds that could be spent better elsewhere and that doesn’t seem right to me.
There is nothing wrong if the State donated a bit of land to her plus some cash!
After all, succeeding in winning a first olympic gold medal for the country, means she has made history!
We do not expect to see her face on a cereal box on Television in the rest of the world any time soon, but because of her talent and efforts the name Dominica has sort of became synonymous among people who had never heard the name Dominica prior to her capturing her gold medal.
That sort of recognition is a good thing! When Vivian Richards, and Andy Roberts, first to play on the West Indies cricket team for Leeward/Windward Islands, Antigua government gave them both land, not sure if they got money.
In any event if foreigners can get free billions of Dominica money from sales of our passports; the girl (lady ) our nation hero deserves more! The $37,500.00 she got from Olympic organization will not last forever.
This time Roosevelt Skerrit that damn th… has don the right thing!
Hahahaha!
I am not celebrating a person who along with her coach (husband) choose or did not see it fit to train in Dominica or build a jumping PIT in Dominica and chose COLUMBIA instead. When the coach who is Dominica’s Olympic team coach did not see the usefulness of having that PIT built in Dominica and remain there for future athletes or Olympians or interschools or commonwealth games.
If you had interest and LOVE for the country you would want to train there and have the PIT there. You went to Columbia.
How long since we-Dominican Tax Payers through the Olympic Committee have been giving her a stipend to train and the PIT did not come out way it went to Columbia instead?
Unfortunately, you are not an American Olympian and
Don’t be ridiculous!
How stupid is your comment and opinion? People talk nonsense sometimes to make belief that they have foreknowledge of certain situations. I am sorry to inform you perhaps you should have kept such stupid a comment buried in your mind.
In the place of you were so knowledgeable about the sport in which she and her coach participated, you would have realized that there are no Olympic training facilities in backwards Dominica!
One cannot successfully train doing triple jumps on asphalt, and grass, on a sandy beach!
If that woman wasted her time in Dominica talking training in Dominica, she would not have a round bit of gold around her neck, and I believe the US$37,000.00 that goes with it in her pocket!
You talk about training in Dominica: but how come you have not suggest some of the sale of passports money go into the building of Olympic facilities to ensure people are properly trained so that they do do not embarrass themselves not able to come close to qualifi
