Another pappy show. Come to Dominica if all you want to experience politically infested pappy shows. Even for independence they canโt resist that cheap propaganda and nasty rhetoric.
Independence is freedom from the control, influence, support, aid, or the like, of others.
Dominica may be a lot of things, but independent it is not. Instead of capitalising on our own natural and human resources, we have infected ourselves with the “free lunch” syndrome.
Instead of preparing for disasters and hard times like our grand parents used to do, we squander our time and money on rum and party.
The inevitable occasional hurricane is used as an excuse to run to the UN crying that our home was destroyed and we need aid.
We fail to realise that there is no free lunch and everybody who helps us wants something in return. Soon we’ll have bartered everything including the myth of our independence.
While we use it as an excuse for more rum and party. Let’s pause and ask ourselves:
-What are we celebrating really?
-Are we truly independent?
-If not what can we do to become independent?
Sitting in the garage and saying “vroom-vroom” does not make you a Toyota.
