US Vice President Kamala Harris announced Thursday that the US is investing more than $100 million in the Caribbean region to crack down on weapons trafficking, help alleviate Haiti’s humanitarian crisis and support climate change initiatives.
The announcement was made ahead of an official trip to the Bahamas for a meeting of Caribbean and US leaders hosted by Harris and Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis. Harris, who is the highest-ranking US official to visit the Bahamas since it became independent 50 years ago, landed shortly after noon.
Dozens of greeters including school children and members of her sorority greeted Harris as the Royal Bahamas Police Force band dressed in black, red and white uniform played.

I hope this $100 million support does not come attached with the nonsense conditionalities of LGBTQI+ being thrust upon regional governments. This foreign government system has previously hinted about it including this LGBTQI+ foolishness in its foreign policy initiatives.
Caribbean governments and most importantly the citizens of the region should closely monitor to ensure foreign perverted ideologies are not injected into the psyche of our societies via ‘financial syringes’.

This is a welcomed gesture and initiative by the US but much too long in coming. But, as the saying goes, “it is better to be late than never”.
I just hope that these plans materialise and the Caribbean becomes a much better region because of this renewed effort.
It is my hope that proper mechanisms are put in place to guard against corruption. Corruption is the biggest stumbling block to development and advancement of a people.
It is my wish that this US $1 000 000 000 will begin to reverse the downward trajectory of this perennially battered and beleaguered region.
The US, with its flawed foreign policies, is no role model for other budding democracies. However, the US is overwhelmingly preferred around the world to despotic dictatorships like Russia and China.

Ibo, I couldn’t help but notice that you stuck an extra nought in to give the impression that the amount quoted was one billion rather than one hundred million, which is chicken feed compared to the billions the US give to Israel every year to oppress the Palestinians and the billions currently sent to Ukraine to wage war with the Russians on Biden’s behalf. So tell me exactly how much can this amount of money do to improve the lives of Caribbean people? China is spending a lot more on Dominica alone. If you have to add what the Chinese also spend on other Caribbean countries, what the US is offering to spend on the whole region is a pittance and an insult to Caribbean people.

I have very grave problems with many of America’s flawed and biased foreign policies. This unrestrained support for Israel is galling. Even in the Security Council of the UN, the US who has veto power, invariably votes for Israel no matter how heinous the atrocities Israel commits against the hapless Palestinians.
