Just over one month since the murder of 35-year-old Velma Valmond, a medical doctor-in-9training, her boyfriend, Alexan Alex Alexander now stands charged with her death.
The 32-year-old Mahaut man appeared before Magistrate Michael Laudat charged with murder and attempted murder.
According to the charge by the police, it is alleged that 8on December 30, 2022, at number 4 Jewel Lane in Goodwill, Alexander murdered Valmond.
He further stands charged with the attempted murder of Valmond’s 18-year-old daughter, Daisy Earlean Durand on the same day.
At the court hearing, the accused man was not required to enter a plea since the charge of murder is an indictable offense and is expected to be heard at the High court before a Judge and jury.
In December, Police Inspector, Fixton Henderson reported, “At about 11:10 AM on December 30, police officers responded to a report of domestic violence between a woman and her boyfriend, and upon arrival at number 4 Jewels Lane in Goodwill, the officers found the lifeless body of 35-year-old Velma Valmond of Sinekou, Kalinago Territory on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood with a severe laceration across her neck.”
He said she was pronounced dead on the scene.
Inspector Henderson further revealed that at the time of Valmond’s discovery, her boyfriend, Alexander, was also met on the bathroom floor frothing from his mouth and in a state of distress.
Alexander, along with Durand who had sustained injuries during the incident, were admitted to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.
Alexander is now remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison and is expected to return to court on June 16, 2023, for the start of his Preliminary Inquiry.
He is represented by attorney-at-law Geoffrey Letang.

The judge should sentence him to death by hanging for this most unspeakable crime of passion after the jury finds him guilty. That was a bestial crime. He deserves no mercy.
I believe capital punishment is murder by the state so I usually don’t subscribe to the death penalty except in rare cases of heinous killings. This murderer has most definitely forfeited his life.
He from Mahaut? Alex came Mahaut with his mother as a young boy, but he from Mahaut. Sad that a young, intelligent, beautiful woman had to lose her life. Guess we will never know why. I just hope the good Lord serves him justice. Until the laws are strengthen to more than a slap on the wrist, these incidents will not end. You said he came as a young boy so obviously he was raised in Mahaut so yes he is from Mahaut. If he had won the lottery or did something big you could not complain, You would praise Mahaut for raising him.
