In a very surprising move, Interpol has removed its Red Notice Alert against Indian diamond dealer Mehul Choksi, who is wanted by India for his connection in a $2 billion fraud at the Punjab National Bank.
The removal of the Red Notice means Mehul Choksi can travel out of Antigua and Barbuda, of which he is a citizen.
The Red Notice was issued in 2018, about 10 months after Choksi fled to the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda where he received citizenship by investment
The Indian government has been contesting the removal of Choksi’s name from the Interpol wanted list but reports are that Interpol found credence in Choksi’s allegation that Indian agencies attempted to abduct him.
“There is credible possibility that the applicant’s abduction from Antigua to Dominica had the ultimate purpose of deporting the applicant to India,” Interpol said in its order, saying that Choksi may face the risk of “not receiving a fair trial or treatment if returned to India”.
A spokesperson for Choksi said the decision of Interpol to delete the Red Notice strengthens Choksi’s case.
“The report from the Antiguan police, and the evidence offered by Choksi in the ongoing High Court proceedings in Antigua, point to an alarming case of a state-orchestrated kidnap, torture, and attempted rendition by the Indian government,” the spokesperson said
On May 23, 2021, Choksi mysteriously disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda. He claimed he was abducted by Indian agents and was taken on a yacht to Dominica. Choksi said he was beaten severely on the way.
He was charged with illegal entry into Dominica only to find that days after, on May 28, to be exact, the Indian government flew in a team of investigators in the hope of securing his deportation from the island, where he was not a citizen.
However, Choksi, through a team of lawyers in Dominica filed a habeas corpus in the high court alleging abduction and torture. After spending about 51 days in Dominica under arrest, Choksi was allowed to return to Antigua for further medical treatment.
He suffers from neurological problems as well as heart disease. He was ordered to return to Dominica once his health improves. However, the charges were later dropped against Choksi.
The Antigua Royal Police launched an abduction probe into the matter based on Choksi’s lawyers’ complaint. The findings of Antigua police mirrored Choksi’s allegations.

Here is what needs to happen. The DPP must now open an investigation into who in Dominica was involved in that scheme and did anyone get paid. The acting police Commissioner Mr. Corbett placed himself at the center of the action to break the law an cannot still be in the position he now currently serve. It is a dis respect to the state, law enforcement and to the good police officers who try to serve without bias. Corbett need to resign if that guy has any conscience. Interpol need to now put some of these folks on red notice. Our prime minister is like a terrible two toddler who throws a tantrum and parents let him have his sucker to keep thier sanity. Time to cut his behind with a bull pissle.
What Antigua have to do is revoke Choksi Antiguan citizenship,and deport him to India.This criminal should have been in India a long time ago.

Well….This was suggested years ago, and maybe even by you before. Here’s what would happen to EVERY CBI program in the Caribbean. They would all lose credibility and possibly leave a bad taste in many of the investors. In addition to possible international law/policy infractions. That is why Antigua could only TRY to kidnap him and smuggle him (human trafficking) into Dominica illegally. To only TRY to have him deported from Dominica. They COULD NOT do it themselves. He had no ID, therefore allowing Dominica to have an excuse to send him to India, as he had nothing to show he was an Antiguan.
Also, as an interested CBI applicant, watching this story id be thinking, why purchase nationality which comes with sovereignty, when it can be easily stripped away from you (WITHOUT PROOF OR CONVICTION), on a whim.
