🎶Flashback Favourites🎶(WCMF showcase): Halibut – Pawa Bol

*Editor’s note* We thought it fitting to share this article with you once more on the passing of Cletus “Halibut” Abraham.

May his soul rest in peace, may his memory not be forgotten and may his musical legacy live on.

Welcome to Flashback Favourites where we rewind the clock and revisit the songs that shaped our lives. Whether it’s a golden soulful ballad, a vintage calypso, soca or reggae hit, or a timeless Cadence-lypso or Bouyon original that celebrates the musical creativity of Dominicans, we’re bringing back the tunes that never lost their magic. Tune in, turn it up, and let the memories play – because great music never expires.

The French Creole component of WCMF 2025 will be the focus of Flashback Favourites leading up to the festival. In this edition:

Dominican artist Halibut—born Cletus Abraham—rose to fame in the 1970s as lead singer of the legendary Belles Combo, helping shape the island’s musical identity through three albums and two hit 45s. After a long hiatus, he made a powerful comeback by winning the NCCU Cadence-lypso Competition in both 2011 with his crowd-favorite anthem “Pawa Bol.” He won again in 2013 .”

Now featured on this year’s WCMF lineup, Halibut is set to bring the energy once again—and you can bet “Pawa Bol” will be part of the magic.
