101 emergency shelters made available to the public island-wide

Glenroy Toussaint

Emergency Shelter Coordinator, Glenroy Toussaint has announced that a total of 101 emergency shelters have been made available to the general public as Tropical Storm Tammy approaches the area. He made the announcement during a press briefing on Thursday night.

A Tropical Storm warning remains in effect for Dominica.

“We have made available 101 emergency shelters for the general public. However, we have made some arrangements,” Toussaint said.

He outlined some of the arrangements made for particular communities in Dominica.

“At the regional shelter in Castle Bruce, this shelter will serve the communities of Good Hope, Petite Soufriere, San Sauveur including Castle Bruce.”

He mentioned further that at the regional shelter in Jimmit the communities to be accommodated are Mahaut, Jimmit, Massacre, Canefield, Tarreau, Layou Park, Sultan, and Campbell Les Pointe.

“The Layou regional shelter will accommodate persons from the community of Colihaut,” he stated.

Additionally, Toussaint pointed out that residents of Coulibistrie will be accommodated at the Morne Rachette Resource Center.

“Residents of Mero, at the Kelleb John Laurent Primary School in St Joseph, and of course we have the residents from Bornes who will be accommodated at both the Portsmouth Secondary School and Dos D’Ane Primary School,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Toussaint encouraged everyone to be mindful of their responsibilities.

“We are encouraging those of you who should have been at the shelters already or who are planning to be at the shelters, please we are encouraging you to come with some of your supplies,” he advised.

He listed some of the basic supplies including water to last at least 36 to 48 hours, some dried foods, biscuits, and canned foods.

“Very importantly your medication,” Toussaint encouraged. “We know there are people who are on prescription/medication. We are encouraging you to walk with that medication.

He added, “Of course, very importantly, people consider their belongings and their documents, [place them in] a safe plastic bag and take it to the shelter.”

As customary, Toussaint said the department will enforce the shelter rules and regulations. This he said includes no weapons, guns, knives, cutlasses, or anything of that nature.

The conclusion of my submission is that if we are talking approximately sixty-eight residential places: that would be 101 /68 = 1.485 or one and a half (1.5) shelters for each village.

Now let me embarrass you and expose your stupidity!
“Can you allow us in one of your many Wesley mansions? since you are living in Monticello California?”
You are trying to impress people that you know me and about California so much so, that you know I live in Monticello, well perhaps you and your mom lives there; I do not know, if you are suggesting I reside in Montecito California, that would not be criticizing me; that would be elevating me; because one must be a multimillionaire; or billionaire to live there.
I don’t have any mansion in Wesley; I built a modest two bedroom house for my sister, in 2020, she died a few months after she moved into it.
It is closed up; when the storm was approaching last week, we allowed someone to take shelter in it; I know it wasn’t you!
I don’t know any any Montecello in Calif; if it exist it must be a place filled of Dams, and turbines near San Jose, you are welcome to go live there, take it all for you!
        Chups, or stupess means stupid.
