Shannah Robin, a martial artist who hails from the village of Marigot in Dominica, has achieved another historic milestone. After 34 years of unwavering commitment, he now holds the esteemed title of Senior Professor with an 8th-degree black belt in his own dynamic martial arts system.
The certificate of ranking was presented to Robin on April 21, 2024 by Grandmaster Robert Sugar Crosson of the Sugar Ryu Jiu Jitsu Federation.
Robin’s journey began with a dream—a vision that transcended the boundaries of his small village. From early morning training sessions to late-night practice, he immersed himself in the art of combat, discipline, and self-improvement. His passion for martial arts became a way of life, shaping not only his physical abilities but also his character.
“I want to thank everyone who has supported me along the way—my family, friends, mentors, and especially the thousands of students I’ve had the privilege of teaching across the world,” a smiling Robin stated as he acknowledged the collective effort that propelled him forward. “Each of you has contributed to this moment, inspiring me to keep pushing my limits and sharing my love for martial arts.”
Robin’s martial arts journey was closely tied to the Purple Dragon Academy, an institution he led in Dominica. The academy provided invaluable services to youth, fostering discipline, respect, and community spirit. Under Robin’s guidance, students not only honed their skills but also imbibed the essence of martial arts philosophy.
On May 18th, 2021, history was made as Robin became the first Dominican martial artist to be promoted to the rank of professor within his school system. The prestigious honor was bestowed upon him by Grandmaster Sugar Robert Crosson of New York, with an endorsement from Grandmaster Wayne Lewis of South Carolina.
Robin’s influence extended beyond Dominica’s shores. He continued his teaching journey overseas, leaving an indelible mark on students worldwide. His dedication was recognized by international organizations, earning him multiple awards and accolades.
To aspiring martial artists and dreamers, Robin offered these words: “Never underestimate the power of persistence. If a kid from a small village can achieve greatness, so can you. Keep striving, keep pushing, and never give up.”
Shannah Robin stands tall in the field of martial arts—a testament to the human spirit’s unwavering pursuit of excellence. His journey is far from over, but this milestone marks a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
