Six people have been found dead in the rubble of a collapsed pedestrian bridge in South Florida, the Miami-Dade County fire chief said.
Fire Chief Dave Downey said at a news briefing Thursday evening that four deceased people had been found at the scene by first responders.
He also said nine victims were removed “early on” and taken to hospitals. But he did not elaborate on their conditions.
He said “search and rescue mode” is continuing after nightfall.
Hello and good morning my people. First I want to offer my condolence to the victim families for their lost. Based on what I read in the New York Times the construction firm which build the pedestrian over pass have a history of questionable behavior like cutting corners and not using the proper strength of concrete. This wasn’t a bridge it’s a pedestrian crossing which is different from a bridge. The company was conducting a stress test before they tightened the supporting cables and that is why the cross walk collapse in the middle. This is just beginning of things to come since Trump remove the mandatory consultation which was required under the Obama administration withe the Army Corps of Engineers for any heavy bridge, Tunnel or Road construction. That gives construction companies a free hand to cut corners.
A Chinese construction company built the over pass in Miami? ask Medard & dem
A Chinese construction built the over pass in Miami?
What a sad situation! Condolences to the families of the dead.
One wonders whether Trump gonna pay for that>!.. Love to hear what those overseas UWP SUPPORTERS have to say about that. Bet you if something like that happened in Dominica there would be no water to cleanse Skerrit! Skerrit do that!
You know,
I had the same thought. Everything from accident to natural disaster is placed at the feet of Skerrit and his incompetence. Really terrible accident and there are so many Dominicans in Florida so it could have been anyone getting crushed under that bridge.
I do hope the Dominicans who live abroad and are usually quick in their nasty criticisms of Dominica and the way things are done here will take a step back and think before speaking.
From my assessment, anything can happen anywhere, so Dominicans abroad, stop burning the bridges that you have crossed. You never know when you will need to cross it again.
