The Fire Department says homeowners should be mindful of faulty household equipment.
Chief Fire Officer Josiah Dupuis was speaking on the heels of a fire in La Plaine that allegedly occurred as a result of a faulty fan.
“The house in question was owned by Mary Jno-Baptiste and there was a small child in the house who had to be rescued. We want to tell residents that they should be mindful of faulty equipment because we understand that there was a fault fan in the bedroom.
“We were told that to start the fan one would have to use their hands to spin the blade. We can all attest to that but it is very dangerous,” he said.
This should really be an eye opener to the Fire Dept. What programs do you have planned to educate the people. Do you go to the different villages at least twice a year to educate the people. What could you have done to prevent such a fire. Since there is so much time on hand because there are few fires in the country, can some time be utilized to educate the people on fire prevention.
Plan to go around the country to have demontrations and seminars on fire prevention. Promote and make available fire extinquishers to the public during your visits.
stop importing the chinese bull crap appliances, thats the problem fire chief.
they need to tell those chinese to stop make crap to sell for people!
This was indeed a faulty fan if, to turn it on would have to use their hands to start the blade. This is really a faulty and dangerous fan.
A fan is turned on when the On button is switched on. What type of fan is this?
In addition, a fan should not have an extension cord.
Fire Chief you need to educate Dominicans about such an equipment.
Mr Fire Chief – just tell Dominicans to beware of all those cheap Chinese goods that flooding the market…that will resonate better….lol
