Belles teenager dies after tree-cutting accident

death-investigation-generic-graphicA 14 year old boy of Belles, Venny Junior Esprit, has died following an accident in the heights of Belles on Friday July 25, 2014.

A release from police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, states that about 1:30 pm on that day, Denny Esprit was in the company of his father, Denny Esprit of Belles who was cutting down a tree with a chain saw.

The tree fell and struck Denny on his head causing him to be in an unconscious state. He was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital Accident and Emergency Department where, according to Inspector Carbon, he was examined and pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.

A coroner’s inquest has convened and a post mortem will follow, the release states.

Police say investigations into the matter are continuing.

You know DNO I wish that you guys would have gone to the family and gotten the story from them I’m sure they would have been more than eager to share their tragedy as that’s all they can do right now for strength besides praying to their God. If you had done that then you would know that the police statement that “, Denny Esprit was in the company of his father, Denny Esprit of Belles who was cutting down a tree with a chain saw.

The tree fell and struck Denny on his head causing him to be in an unconscious state.” is incorrect and misleading and completely unfair to the dad and the brother who were almost killed as well not by the tree he was cutting but by the branch of another unsuspecting tree that suddenly set them in harms way and sent them all running for their lives. And to the people who are commenting about negligence for lack of “hard hat” while I agree that we should wear protective gear while participating in such risky affairs, I highly doubt that the protective gear would have saved him at the height and force of gravity from which the branch fell. He got two lashes by that fallen branch, one might have well broken his neck. That father takes every precaution to ensure the safety of his kids and he would NEVER willfully put his children in harms way.
DJ may your soul rest in perfect peace, gone too soon! ;(

Dominica news online must get thier facts straight before posting stories.the way dey have dat is like is becuz of carelessness the boy died. The boy and his father was sawing wood in the hieghts of belles.they cut a first tree which got stuck on another…they cut that second tree which seemed to be entangled with a third tree on the other side of the garden…that tree which was much smaller broke n fell on the boy.it wasnt a tree that they had cut n it was really unexpected….so plz stop telling the world that the father cut a tree n it fell on his son!!!!as a family member of the boy it hurt alot to see that kind of fslse story….n btw the boy name is denny not venny

It is sad but accident happens and will always happen; we know not when. If only the father had an idea this would have happened, he would have asked his son to stay far away from that area.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, father, and your family. I feel your pain, your hurt that this occurred. May God comfort you on your sudden loss.
Pray to him to give you calm, peace and serenity as you grieve your loss. Try to be strong. Take heart in the Lord. Our Loving Father who holds the key knows best. God bless you and your family.

Since we were not there, we should not have any negative comments. Stop making the father feel more worse than he feel now. How many of us have done things, and after he fact we try to make it or take it back, but it is too late. I was raised on farm in Dominica, a lot of times our parents mean well, but they cannot afford to give us the protection we always need.

Even in big countries, things happen to good parents and children. We just have to pray for the family, and let the boy soul rest in peace. The Lord has the final answer. I don’t know the child and parents, but I am a human being, and instead of pointing fingers, let us just pray that this does not happen to us or any of our family members. We in Dominica don’t wear seat belts, ride bikes without helmets, make our children go in the river and sea without any protection.

This is a time for empathy and sympathy. Sometimes some of us are careless and sometimes we cannot afford to buy the things to protect us and family from harm. Lord help us in this time of sorrow for the family and the whole Nation as a whole. We will never have all the answers to why things happen/

    Condolences to the family.

We all have opinions, none of us know what/or how this accident happened. Hard hat or not, time of death is a certainty. Young, old, sick, healthy, when the time comes there is nothing we can do to stop it. The family needs support at this time.

It was not the tree that was cut that caused the damage. The tree cut fell on another tree and that was the tree that caused the damage. Get the story right.

Yes clothing of proper protection should have been worn proper clothing and Head protection.
Don’t come crying after the damage has been done we are in the 21st century we are no more cave men/women learn and act . Watch the discovery channel in the futur to learn how trees are cut down for eg. To avoid
        future tragedies as such

      • July 28, 2014

No but wearing a hard hat might have save him.
Government needs to put health n safty laws n place in this country… Dominica is striving to meet international standard . We are hosting international coferences, echo touristim is our number one product and promoting creole festival on the world stage. We needs laws in place and set standard. DOMINCA NEEDS LAW AND ORDER and its people must abide by it

I agree with your expression ‘gone too soon’. He’d barely begun to live. I feel for the family.

However, according to the Bible, God created the exact number of angels he desired, right from creation – Job 38:4 &7. Therefore God does not ‘earn’ himself angels by killing or causing the deaths of humans, leaving their loved ones heartbroken. That would be such a selfish, callous God!

On the other hand, Jehovah God holds out the wonderful hope of the resurrection to this young boy and countless others. Acts 24:15
