ADMIN: Foolishness. We blur faces only when the victims are dead. They do the same thing in America. Some newspapers in America don’t even blur the faces of the victims even when they are dead. So saying about America and lawsuit is a whole bunch of foolishness.

I think Dominica need three things:
Mandated driver education and improvement courses
Traffic Safety laws (speed limits, point system, etc)
Safely constructed roads and highways (signs, traffic lights, radar speed detection, patrol cops, etc)

Images are way too graphic.I would like to make some voluntary suggestions to the bikers. I am very glad that you all are still alive. However, had you all been wearing protected clothings such as leathers gloves and helmets those my friends saves a purpose as could drive down casualties.

Its about time a law is introduce in Dominica for all you bikers to follow as a top priority to wearing protective wear.

i know they named the road a “HIGHWAY” but when it comes to mahaut that highway bit must be omitted. mahaut barely have road for us to walk. people need to be really careful on that road. motorists, especially motorcyclists have to slow right down. we have so many little side streets coming onto the main road. if you speeding anything can happen. and in mahaut especially, things happen fast and easy

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS!!

I don’t see why people are getting upset over the pictures posted. Telling someone what are the consequences of riding without a helmet and they actually seeing what may occur as a result, are two different things. Sometimes a little shock is needed to make a point. Maybe someone seeing the pic’s will decided, from now on when I go riding i’ll put on my helmet.

    • Justice and Truth
      June 1, 2012

      @ jennifer

It is silly to even think of this. The government is not in a position to ban motorcycles. It is a vehicle. Drivers of any sort of vehicle must drive cautiously. They take too many chances, thinking that they will never get into an accident. They must drive on their side of the road, yielding to traffic/drivers who have right of way and looking left and right when turning. Too many are negligent.
What the government can do is to make it mandatory to wear safety helmets.

I am a bit disappointed by the media and how photos of victims are publicize. Yes we need to know what is taking place at home but there is absolutely NO respect for the families as to what can and cannot be publicize.

Jimmy I pray that you and your friend be okay. I know that my Aunt and family is not at ease at this point but with prayers everything will be alright.

Safety first is safety always. There need to be traffic laws on the land as well as the use of proper gears for cyclist, seat belts when needed because safety is not just a slogan it is a way of life.

fristly,am a picture-take-outer, dominicans believes and comment on everything and anything before analizing the situation.most of the comments a just out of place and make no sence.alyou not seeing that this was put on DMO to make a sencus on how dominicans think and react.
let look at the picture and discribe it 1)two diferent pictures, two diferent site check the back ground! 2) you ever see an acident in any part of the world especial in dominica where a picture is taken and it do have spectators, or medical attendence on one soul but just the shadow of the photographer, not even a police by the bike. 3) the men lieing on the ground in an acident and both of them thier shose of thier feet who move it the impact and it unlace!papa frist time i see that. 4)that picture-take-outer had to be frist on the scine (seen) to have capture that freesh blood.
secoundly am a paramidic. in my many yers of sevice in a bike acident there is noway that the riders or passer-bys are in the same sport, it’s not a car , train ,or bus it’s a bike even with predestireans.blood not red it’s dack so tel the actors use mocreocumb in sted of paint, thats what we use when we do our decemilation programmes.
you all ever see a news report like that posted on DMO before! police investigating an accident., and thats that , no direction where the bike was heading too, or coming from, registration #, persons involve in accident, time of accident, they themself on the seen. no other media report that accident. today is not april 1st it’s not april fools day.it’s huricane season june 1st. and people look before you all leap.

I don’t have any problems viewing the images and frankly it doesn’t bother my stomach one bit. My issue is with showing the persons face whilst they are in pain Or other vulnerable positions. If you say it’s okay for them to show injured motorcyclists to teach others then you’re also playing them showing other people in such a state without any concern for how their families feel. You wicked Dominicans are such hypocritical human beings who go to church yet still want to encourage actions that are wrong. I waiting for one of all you to do this to my family. i agree i lost my cousin to this speeding bikes through mahaut. no one can bring him back, and was taken due to foolishness. i’m not saying you cant ride your bike fast, i woudl too but i mean there is a speed limit in villages RESPECT IT!!! everyone knows ppl are always on the road in mahaut, if it was for the forester who knows what the biker could’ve hit. the ppl in the forester are my friends the bikers are someoen else’s come on ppl try and take it easy int he villages especially mahaut. we all know that as soon as you enter mahaut its a straight stretch its practically a high way. be more careful, who’s son, cousing or friend are we gonna lose next> take it easy

Dominica is just a lawless land and when it comes to obeying traffic laws; it is just a joke the way people disregard the traffic laws. Riders do what they want, no one stops them. It almost seem like one has to have a degree in stupidity to drive a bus (my apology to the bus drivers who use their common sense). Bus drivers cut people off on the road (afraid that they are going to miss that dollar, but they seem not wise enough to realize that in so doing they may have to spend that same dollars to see to accident related issues), they stop at the most inconvinient areas to let off passengers (at the brow of the constitution hill), blare their music irregardless of the lyrics or who is on the bus (youth or senior citizens). Some individuals seem to think that the more they drink the better they drive-putting their lives and that of other innocent drivers in jeapordy. I often wonder why they employ all these police. People rarely get tickets, Policemen just stroll, and socialize(using their phones or otherwise) when on beat. It appears that policemen are not aware that they are professionals: I was cut off right next to the police station by a policeman in uniform driving a police vehicle when I had the right of way. He just decided that he was a police and so was not obliged to stop at the stop sign. My comment then was wow! no wonder there is little to no respect for police in society. A lot of accidents can be avioded if things are put in place to ensure that we all respect the laws whether they be traffic or other laws. If the cats are away, why not play. We are all aware that emancipation is a mere illusion to many. If “massa” is not their with the whip, why perform at all. As drivers, Let us try to be each other’s keeper in order to reduce the number of accidents on the road.

For people that bashing DNO on the pics; this is nonesense man. This is the 21st century. We are in a time of high technology. If people present on the scene is able to see it, why people who are looking behind the lens of a camera should not be able to see it too?

It happen already. None of us looking at the scene can change anything about it. As long as something is out in the public and other people are seeing it, then everyone should have the right to see it too.

Once again, best of luck and speedy recovery to the victims.

What will happen, speed bumps on the entire west coast road??!! Some people actually have busy lives and need to get to where they are going. The answer or solution is not speed bumps. There is a clear difference in speeding and driving recklessly. A lot of these people are driving recklessly and with no discretion. A bit of driving common sense and general etiquette would immediately assist. As soon as Mahaut has the speed bumps they will race in massacre.

Who can force them to wear helmets if they don’t want to wear helmet. The police can do what they want, some people can be very stubborn.

If they give them a ticket for not wearing a helmet, might work for some of them. But in other for that to work full time, the police always have to be on the look out for that. People have to just excercise more caution on the road. :!:

Well as long as these riders continue to believe they are supermen then those things are bound to happen. We need to improve our traffic patrols along that stretch of road from Roseau to Portsmouth.Every police vehicle that is parked at a police station on the west and east coast must be seen patroling the streets and enforcing traffic laws at all times.
