UPDATE: Delvin Lantan suffered from seizures, loved the sea

Delvin Lantan, whose decomposed body was discovered floating at the Coast Guard base at Woodbridge Bay, Fond Cole this morning, loved going to the sea but was warned to desist due to his history of epileptic seizures, a family member told Dominica News Online.

Sandra Lantan, sister of the deceased, said she last saw Delvin alive last Friday.

She said the family went to visit Delvin on Saturday and he was not home, so they contacted his father in Point Michel, who reported not seeing him as well. The family then reported him missing at the police headquarters.

Sandra said after being missing for several days, they feared Delvin went for a sea-bath and had a seizure.

She said her 31-year-old brother loves going to the sea wherever he goes but he was always told to be careful as the seizure could affect him while in the water. He has been affected by seizures over the past two years.

But what he loved may have resulted in his death as Delvin’s body was fished from the sea by Coast Guard personnel sometime before seven this morning.

Police Spokesman Inspector Claude Weekes confirmed the deceased’s health problem during a media briefing Wednesday.

“The gentleman in question… it is reported that he may have been epileptic and had been missing for about three to five days,” Weekes said.

“That body was brought to the Coast Guard base and then moved to the Princess Margaret Hospital where it was officially pronounced dead by Dr. Gavin Seaman. The body is now at the Lyndhurst Funeral Home.

“A coroner’s inquest will be convened to be followed by a post mortem,” Weekes said.

Delvin was single, never married, and had no children.

Delvin, who does his own gardening, held handyman jobs periodically at the Dominica Infirmary and Rueben’s Bakery.

Nonesense!! A man was reported missing since saturday and the public was not made aware of such a case. Serious lapse on behalf of the police force. Come on you all need to be more considerate than this.

The deceased is also a brother of ours in Jesus Christ. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and in such a manner. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!
Due to his medical condition, he should never have gone to bathe alone in the sea. It appears that he did not listen to his family. My heartfelt sympathy go out to them.
There is a short daily prayer which Catholics as I, especially the older ones have learned since childhood and should pray as much as we possibly could. I do not know how many of them still say it. It is:

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, once in agony have pity on the dying.

This prayer applies to everyone in the entire world who may be in agony, who die suddenly and who also will have fatal accidents. God knows our future and what will happen to us. He is forgiving, compassionate and merciful! His love and forgiveness is boundless.

  12. A ROUGE!
    December 1, 2010

We should be mind full of a lot of things; including the foolish things that we say. Even in a time of mourning we find it in our hearts to say the most inappropriate thing to or about one another. That man( BOBY) lying on the gurney is only a shell, and i say this with respect for the dead. The gurney is also a non-living thing; so are the gloves and the masks.Loss is always unfortunate and not something to be smack about.I myself have suffered loss and know what it feels like to hear remarks like that, it cuts very deep. It makes you feel that people don’t care anymore about what is really in their faces but stupid thought. You and I can always say what we want but are we right? The loss does not hear the senseless remarks, he does not see that the under taker is not wearing gloves or a mask, not that it is healthy nor is it professional. But the occupant of that shell is maybe happier than most off us alive now, because it is quite a possibility the his soul is at rest, his drink is sweeter and his company is forever gracious. Take hid in the negative thought that we think. Think it but then stop should we say. I ask , we should be civil and not rouges.

Is it because you have no job, leaving illegally in a foreign counrty, have no moneyto spend on yourselves (except credit card), no food to eat this afternoon and have to beg and scrape for a dollar on a constant basis that you have nothing better to do than sit and at your neighbor’s computer and wait for news to be updated on dno and reek your hatred???… stupesss either come back to dca and make a meaninful contribution or dont say anything negative that the same foreigners you guys say that reading this so they can read your comments also.. We always have to put a negative vibe in every situation…the man had gloves on when he secured the body….so he is simply transporting the dead ….no big deal people…is his choice if he wants to then wear gloves or not…Who exactly is it affecting…is not like he carrying the body in his arms or gathering forensics so relax..Gush man….

        December 1, 2010

teacher………. are you trying to be clever. keep it to the class room and maybe your students will live there writing and spelling properly. ——” where is” is correct as it was refering to the person. “where are” would be correct if you was saying ( where are the gloves)

        • Lizavier4Jesus
          December 2, 2010

Teacher is not wrong. “gloves” is the main subject; and it is written the plural form. Therefore the verb must also take the plural grammar. Hence, the question should be written “Where are your gloves?” just as a person would ask: “Where are the mangoes I asked for”?

He was smiling at me. I was taking the pic with a BB and he kept asking: “which media house you represent?”. He was suggesting I am a non-media civilian taking pics and have no reason taking pic. But he probably did not mean it negatively. However, I was too busy to answer him. lol… Most people do not know how I look and I hate the spotlight, so that’s good….
