BREAKING NEWS: Body of missing man discovered

Laurent

Coast Guard officials have discovered the body of the young man who went missing in the sea during a family outing at the La Plaine beach on Sunday afternoon.

Villagers told Dominica News Online his body was discovered not too far from where he was last seen swimming.

The young man has been identified as Kieron Laurent.

It is reported that Laurent and his family, who recently arrived on the island for a family reunion, were at the river before visiting the beach.

The search was called off late yesterday and resumed today.

Dominica News Online will provide more details when it becomes available.

Kieron, you lived with Evadney for all those years. As I sit writng this comment, I can see you walking in with your book bag and greeting me sometimes with a kiss. I am really saddened as this is not what I expected to hear. You were like a son to me.
To Cheryl and the rest of the family, let us agree that Kieron was given a second chance to live and at this time, God has called on him. Take courage. God is in control.

To Cheryl and the family, it is sad but let us say that Kieron was given a second chance to live and at that time, God was ready for him. Take courage, God is a good God.

my thoughts and prayers go out to the Laurent family and well as the Allans. Not only did they lost Keiron but also their grand Aunt – last night. the family was all set to have its grand family reunion when they were heat by two deaths. may god give them peace and comfort in this rough times.

on other note: there is a sign at the entrance to the beach. that was done by the La Plaine YOuth sports Academy..and amazingly one former member of the village council wanted to remove the sign. there is also one about there turtle nesting.

today we in La Plaine are greiving with the family for their lost.

Parents for the summer keep your kids away from the beach esp Boute Sabe. keep a close eye on them and all what they do. we do not want another tradegy.

This beach needs warning signs like yesterday. We know that swimming on the island only takes place in the Caribbean Sea. The Atlantic claimed yet another son of the soil. Condolences to his family. Let’s put these signs up now, so that another family do not have to suffer a similar fate and heartache.

I am saddened by the tragic situation that occurred on the La Paine Beach (Boute Sabre) yesterday. The week long reunion was a planned celebration of our large extended family and the distinguished life our late grandfather -Burton Allan. Cheryl we are deeply sorry the reunion has tuned out so tragic. Myself, Chrissie and our girls Sari and Alanna (named after our grandfather) express our sincere and profound sadness at our mishap. Words really cannot express the helplessness and deep pain we all are experiencing.

If we say we are from Dominica, we know, we know, we know. Dominica is a very small island and we know about the Atlantic versus the Caribbean sea. We always respect the mighty atlantic. I do not think a sign would have made a difference although I am not opposed to the placing of signs.

My advice is that we respect mother nature. Take heed. With all said, I wish to express my sympathies to the Alan family. I pray that God gives you some closure. I pray that the sea gives up its treasure so that you may be a peace. In the meantime Pray without ceasing.

Kiki, I am out of my shock now, but still at a loss for words. I watched you grow into the fine young man who had become. I will cherish the memories you left with me, I don’t think it is appropriate to question God, but I cannot help asking why you, why now? This occasion was supposed to be a joyful one. Those abroad were by their phones and computers awaiting all the news and the pictures showing what a wonderful time you guys were having. Yesterday you went to the cemetery to light a candle for those who had left before you, not knowing that these candles would lead your path to join them. I would have preferred to say I wish you long life and prosperity, but the only option I have now is to say. R.I.P Kiki! There are many compartments in my heart with footprints of those who have brought joy to my life at some point in my life. Yours will remain yours Kiki! I will cherish the memories. Love you! R.I.P

The Atlantic side of Dominica is not safe to swim. Why do we continue to take foolish chances when we do not have life guards stationed on the Atlantic sea side of Dominica?

Please people join me in calling on the authorities to have postings on the beach that gives an indication of times when the tides are high and low.

DNO would it be too much for you all to have a posting of the tides around the beaches of Dominica daily?

    • Hm!
      July 17, 2011

Agreed! Something like “Swimming on this beach is prohibited” or something about the rough seas, unpredictable waves you know… There are enough beaches on the western side of the country…. We should stop putting ourselves in danger

I am from La Plaine. That beach does have a warning. People who are not accustomed to this sea need to use common sense. I grew up on that beach and there are days I will not go in the water.. other days i have to scan the beach for a while before deciding where to bathe.. and that bath is not a careless bathing. it’s a spot to wet yourself! But there is a sign there saying bathe at your own risk. It is really sad that this had to occur. Please keep us updated DNO.

Bathe at your own risk. what an informative sign. Don’t u think a tad bit more info can be added and a proper sign put up? is that too much to ask for to save some lives? @ Patricia. Just extend your condolences to the family and if you don’t know what happened then shut up.
      1) The young man wasn’t taking a ‘foolish chance’ with the sea. There were unfortunate circumstances.

      2) There IS a high tide/ current warning sign at the beach

      3) The same sign says swim close to shore.

4)Considering how the beach is not frequently utilized for leisure swimming, having a lifeguard at the beach is impractical.
