UPATE: Six injured in vehicular accident (SEE PHOTO GALLERY)

Six persons were injured in a vehicular accident in the Copthall area at about midday on Wednesday.

Driver of the bus (HE 255) Damien Joseph of Wotten Waven sustained injuries to his arm while other passengers received wounds. They were transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital by Fire and Ambulance personnel.

According to information gathered at the scene, Joseph was heading to town when he attempted to overtake car registration PL48-also heading to town.

During that process, his bus grazed the front right side of the car causing his bus to hit a steep hill at the left side of the road and overturn.

That bus driver was always speeding up and down that Copthall road.

I’m surprised it didn’t happen earlier. He can be fully loaded with passengers, he still overtaking, on that narrow road.

All I can say is that, more often than not, you get what you deserve! The outcome of one’s actions are usually a good indicator of the way one does things.

  4. September 23, 2010

The road is small already. The driver is at fault and not the PM. The PM needs to introduced Traffic Light system. Clearly written Road Signs and Possible where roads are difficult to build call in England, Ireland, New Zealand, China, Japan etc to help bulid good bridges and road infracture for Dominica.
Accidents do happen they cannot tell you when they are coming however we can take precautions to avoid /stop them. The traffic Law does not seem to matter to DRIVERS as they would have to consider the thought of whether they Live or Die!!!. Dominica is a beautiful island and prayers have always been there from the time I was growing up and this is what has kept the nation together that FAITH….
So all form of drivers whether it is a car ,van ,lorry ,bus, motor- cycle, all need to be vigilant on the road as we have pedestarian crossing the roads and this includes wild life. People have the rights to walk safe on Domincan road without having to think of death.

I am most humbled and thankful there were no fatalities and every one has given medical treament to help with a speedy recovery.
    Bless All…

Even though there is a thing called freedom of speech… i think that we readers should be protected from STUPIDITY (of speech, in speech, whatever,) just protect us from poeple who come in the form of Shatta.

It’s persons like that who think that the world owes them something, instead of going out into the world and taking from the world. Sure, blame the PM for everything… soon you’ll say he made you a “dumb A…” for your stupid comment.

It’s a shame that some Dominicans make Dominica a laughing stock. Everything in Dominica is political….

I think i’ve had enough of the red, blue and green business. It is time Dominicans get united instead of being divided.

Elections are over… the PM can only take you and Dominica so far. Life is not about a free ride and what the PM can do for you. It is about what you can do for yourself.

It’s time people like that start thinking – what can i do for myself, which in turn will help Dominica.

Stop wasting time hiding behind the PC making stupid, senseless, ridiculous comments. Use the pc and do something good …..

MY FELLOW DOMINICANS WE ARE LIVING IN A WORLD RIGHT NOW FULL OF CORUPTION, A WORLD FULL OF MESS, A WRLD FULL OF FILLFINESS, A WORLD FULL OF TRIAL AND TRIBULATIOIN, A WORLD FULL OF ARGUEMENTS, FULL OF TROUBLE, FULL OF DISSAPOINTMENTS, A WORLD FULL OF ACCIDENTS AND DEATH. NOW THE QUESTION THAT WE NEED TO ASK OURSELF IS WHAT ARE WE DOING WRONG OR WHAT ROLE ARE WE PLAYING WHICH HELPS TO BRING OUT THESE TRAGIDIES. IF WE LLOK AT OURSELVES MOST PEOPLE DO NOT EVEN PRAY, MOST PEOPLE CHOOSE TO LIVE OF THE WORLD AND NOT OF GOD, SOME OF US DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW TO SAY THANK YOU LORD FOR BLESSING US TO SEE ANOTHER DAY, THANK YOU LORD FOR STRENGTH, THANK YOU LORD FOR YOUR PROTECTION, THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR BEING YOU OH LORD, MOST OF US DO NOT EVEN DO THAT AND THE ONLY TIME WE KNOW GOD IS WHEN WE NEED SOMETHING OR WHEN SOMETHING HAPPEN. OPEN YOUR EYES DOMINICANS SEEK THE TRUTH FIND A BIBLE AND PRAY PRAY PRAY. THE PM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ACCIDENT, HE WAS NOT IN THE BUS DRIVING, HE DID NOT SPEAK TO THE BUS DRIVER ADN SAID YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT YOU TO SPEED ON THE ROAD, I WANT YOU TO OVERTAKE ANY CARS OR BUS YOU SEE ON THE ROAD, IT WAS THE BUS DRIVERS OWN MIND WHO TOLD HIM TO DO SO BECAUSE HE ALOWS SATAN TO DRIVE HIM TO DO SO, IF HE HAD ONLY REBUKE SATAN AND HIS NASTY TEMPTATION THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN SO DO NOT BLAME THE PM HE WAS NOT THERE AND E DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS BUS DRIVER ON THE ROAD, WHAT WE ALL NEED TO DO IS TO SEEK HE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FOLLOW. AM VERY HAPPY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT AND TO THE BUS DRIVER THINK BEFORE YOU ACT, BE HUMBLE AND POSITIVE. GOD BLESS.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood , but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness, against spiritual wickedness in high places”

When we have leaders involve in their Cocomacack or Dealings, these things surely will come to pass to destroy and kill a nation. Further more, there is more to come.

“Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

    September 22, 2010

The overturned vehicle clearly looks like it was not in a roadworthy condition. All the tires on the vehicle looked worned out (bald headed). The police/traffic department must do more vehicular roadworthness checks to ensure that our people are safe, charge and ground violators, then return these vehicles to the owners after the issue has been corrected. I am happy that there were no casualities and pray for the persons involved in the accident a speedy recovery. God bless Dominica.

when will those in authority make bus drivers pay for their foolishness on the roads? You mean to tell me, this bus driver was overtaking on this little piece of road with local passengers, and when they are carrying the tourist, they are the best drivers around. It’s time some heavy charges are put against them bus drivers for reckless driving and endangering the lives of people. I hope he will be charged, and charged heavy too. Is time that nonsense stop. Soon, God forbid, is down in ‘fahlez; they will end up coming down from Bellevue Chopin.

  14. September 22, 2010

I’m sure this punk bus driver will be back on the road even before his injuries are healed. Buses with passengers have no reason to be overtaking. Govt should enforce ticketing reckless drivers as a source of revenue for the country.

  15. well sa
    September 22, 2010

Thank God it wasn’t worst but, some of these bus drivers don’t care about the lives of their passengers. I always say no man is going to take my life for a dollar or two. Whenever I get on any bus whether it is back home or aboard and that individual is driving reckless, I kindly ask him/her to stop and I get off. Life is too precious to be lost in such a stupid way that could have actually been avoid.

MY gosh!!!why does that have to be political!!! I am no supporter of the government or any party as a matter fact, but how can EVERYTHING that happen be the government fault???

Did you all read the part that read :
“he attempted to overtake car registration PL48-also heading to town.During that process, his bus grazed the front right side of the car causing his bus to hit a steep hill ”

Clearly this is the bus driver’s fault. Dominica, especially places like wotten waven does not have any roads for individuals to be overtaking on.What’s the rush?? Shame on you bus drivers, you have no regard for your passengers and put their lives at risk like that!!

There is nothing wrong with the roads in D/ca, the fault lies with the drivers. Always trying to overtake in impossible places, driving too fast and beyond their capabilities. My fear is when the roads are made better the faster people will drive and then we will begin to see fatalities. Thank God no one was seriously injured today, but please, especially the bus drivers, SLOW DOWN.

@shatta: the PM did not sell dominica to no devil.
Not that i’m a supporter of him. Just saying.
The real reason why the accident is just as simple as this. The driver was speeding, and speeding downhill at that and trying to overtake near a corner. Some of our drivers are extremely cocky believing that accidents can never happen to them and that they own the road. People slow down. take ur time. You’l reach your destination
