Veronica Alberts, a Dominican living in St. Maarten, was to begin her new job on that island on Monday (yesterday) but tragedy struck before that could happen.
Police reports indicate that Alberts died due to complications from injuries she sustained during an accident early Monday morning.
According to reports Alberts, 34, was loading garbage onto a garbage truck at around 1:45 am when she was struck by a car which flung her into the air.
The car then slammed into the back of a light garbage truck.
She was rushed to the Louie Constance Fleming Hospital where she later succumbed to injuries to her legs which were too severe to be contained.
A garbage truck worker was also injured and had to be treated at the hospital.
The police in St. Maarten have confirmed that the driver of the car was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Albert spent the afternoon before her death with family and friends on a beach where she attended a birthday party.
We loved her. To her friends and family, I am so glad you got to spend the day with her, before she was taken from you.
Heaven just got a lot more fun and a lot more glamourous! RIP beautiful Veronica. We loved you!

Alas Vonnie, when I heard the news I had to ask again if it’s really you! What an accident what a way for you to be gone but I guess you had to meet the maker, we need more angels up here, My deepest condolences to Clara, Diana, Denny and the rest of the family, may you all be comforted during this devastating time, she was such a jovial person, even on facebook it’s clear that she loved life to the fullest, will always remember her smile. :'(
There is a reason why the Bible say, don’t get drunk with wine. Anything we over do in our life, have consequences. Including too much food, too much sleep, too much work, too much of one thing is good for nothing. Everything in moderation. But drunken driver diving metal and gas is a deadly combination. They should be penalize, lifetime jail or hanging, because they choose to drink, drive and most sadly take a life or more.
What about a mother, father, daughter, son who will never see their love one gain. SAD, SAD, SAD.
My sincere condolence to her family. How sad. my heart goes out to all of you. God be with you and surround you with his loving consolation.
May her soul rest in peace. Amen!
MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE DEAR. May your family and friends be comforted.

1:45 a.m??????? Getting rubbish into a garbage truck hummmmmmm……. Was she already working or something. Why would she be getting rid of rubbish at this time of the morning. Strange thou. However may her soul RIP.
why you Dominican always like to seek for the negativity in a tragedy?
The woman is dead. Pay your respects to the family!
the truck can pass at the time she was watching television or preparing for work, you dom in a can
I am currently in St. Maarten on vacation and heard it on the news while shopping in a store downtown. It was a shocking piece of news as I attended the village feast in Grand Case on the Sunday.
MAYBE SHE WAS CLEANING
Fool, you should know that Da is one of the few places that garbage is picked up during rush hour traffic. Most developed countries pick up their garbage while folks are asleep.
Stupppeess @anonymous. But I get up at 2 and 3 in the morning to put out my rubbish. What you trying to imply? Does it make a difference what sort of legal work de woman was doing?
Ridiculous
comments like this make u think that the most foolish people in the world all congregate in Dominica
boy some of all you foolish eh. in st martin/ st maarten is in the late night/ early morming before business start they picking up rubbish. people have to go out put out their rubbish. well if you think is a rubbish collection jod she had, it vacant now… go SM for the job nah let them deport ur arse… damn foolish
and very sad news… may the faithful departed rest in peace
If you are awake you can put out your garbage at any time. Sometimes the garbage truck comes very early, sometimes it comes late. There is no particular time for a person to put out their garbage. Do you want to know what kind of rubbish she was getting rid of so early in the morning? Go ask the people she lived with.
Something is wrong with some of you. You know otherwise? Anyways behind a computer some of your truly feel empowered but carry on.
if you don’t know what happened I suggest you shut your “A” this is a very trying time for us and your crap isn’t helping. fool
Really?? that is the question you find to ask? in case you didn’t know people put garbage out at all hours of the night over seas. i see nothing wrong with that. instead of showing sympathy you showing suspicion. Get real man.
Anonymous, did you not read that she was to begin a new job on Monday? I did not give it a thought that this job was the one she commenced on Monday.
You must reside in Dominica and never heard of it. The garbage trucks collect garbage early morning. Therefore, residents put out their garbage in the evening.
I do not know what the custom is in St. Maarten. She got up early to put out the garbage so it would be collected. Placing it in the garbage truck is the driver’s responsibility. Was she employed doing this or not? We do not know.
Therefore, why not give her the benefit of the doubt even though she died. Do not let your mind work overtime. It is sad what occurred to her. Pray for the repose of her soul and try not to be negative. May she rest in peace. Amen!
I live on the dutch side in St.Maarten and I haven’t heard about that accident. It must have happened on the french side which is St.Martin.
I live in America, and I read about it on DNO.
Accident claims life of female on French St. Maarten ( Accident Photo Inside)
The French police are now investigating a fatal accident that took place during the early morning hours of Monday in St. James Marigot.
Information states that a female named Veronica Albert from the island of Dominica, died after the accident due to complications from her injuries that she sustained during the accident.
The accident happened when the driver of a car slammed hard into the back of a light garbage truck.
After slamming into the garbage truck, the car then hit a female, severing her leg. She died later at the Louie Constance Fleming Hospital.
A garbage truck worker was also injured and had to be treated at the hospital as well.
It is also said that seemingly the driver of the car was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Family of the late Veronica Albert stated that yesterday during her final moments, she spent the afternoon with family on friends on the beach where she attended a birthday party.
Albert was also scheduled to start work at her new job, today Monday.
LOL ONE ISLAND ONE NEWS PAPER GET REAL
Very sad news.R.I.P
I’m sorry to hear such sad events ..may the family find the strength to make it thru the pain..may her soul rest in peace.God has a plan
My condolences to the Albert families Both in Dominica and in St.Maarten on this tragic accident may you be comforted by the heavenly father .condolences also go out to Joe White and his family over in Stoughton Massachussets I personally know the family I only want to point out to some of those negative talk show hosts especially on Q95 that the Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit does not live in St.Maarten neither in the USA in Boston
You are Dumb, A blind person would call you foolish
The conclusion of your statement is rather bewildering I must say. I am left to wonder where did that come from, can you please contextualize.
what is your point. In all the foolish comments ive read on DNO this one takes the cake. I mean you cannot write something more stupid and senseless than that.
emancipate yourself from mental slavery mt friend!!!!
condolences to the family in SXM AND DOMINICA MAY UR SOUL RIP VON
What i cannot understand there is,I yet to hear someone was killed by a driver high on ganja, you know. You have mass advertisment on alcohol.
just yesterday a Dominican woman lost her daughter, who was 4 month pregnant, killed by a women who was driving drunk,in a town outside Boston, call stoughton. Her 11 year old son who was with her survived, because she told him to run, which he did, when she saw the can was going to hit them, the son said.
Yet THEY crucify the weed smoker and glorify the RUM drinkers. What a Drunken world eh?
you so right alcohol should also be deemed illigal world wide
I like your comment, well taken..so true
What a sad tragedy.
You are so accurate on that; I concur.
You have yet to hear someone was killed by a driver high on ganja, but people have been killed by people high on ganja. When you are high and want more and cannot afford it you steal to get it, while on your stealing spree you kill anyone who is in your way. Yes, people have been killed by people high on ganga.
I agree with u, however, it is going to be very difficult to do that.cigarret smoking causes a lot of deaths, even to those who do not smoke, yet it is legal. What can be done is 1)take away the liscence of those DUI’s for a year.2)repeated DUI’s, liscence taken away for a very long time (about 5 yrs)3) put up billboards near bars and on the streets with faces of people who were kiiled by drunk drivers and a catchy anti DUI caption(billboards funded by hefty charges paid by DUI’s).
It’s really sad when people die in accidents…. R~I~P
RIP my condolences goes out to pastor Hilton and his family I know he is in Dominica now having a crusade. very sad news Be strong and and she is in a better place. From julie in New York.
SM police need to step up their game. drunk drivers always causing some kinda harvoc in de place
Sincere Sympathies to Clara and the rest of the family on the unfortunate sudden passing of “VOVO”. She was a very friendly and Jovial young lady. It was a pleasure meeting her on life’s journey. Rest In Eternal Peace, Vovo.
This is very sad news. A young life gone so soon. May the family be comforted at this moment.
so so so sad! R.I.P. love strength and courage to her family and friends in this trying time
The thing is after tragedies like these people still do not think that alcohol is dangerous. At least my father and a couple of my brothers stopped it after it killed my grandfather. I hope with all my heart that that drunk driver is caught and brought to justice.
My condolences to Veronica Alberts’ family and friends. Trust God to carry you through this very difficult time. He will! I did not know her but she seemed to have been a Christian. Praise God for that. May her positive influence live on in the lives that she touched.
My condolences to the family and friends of this young lady. May the good Lord give you strength in these times. Celebrate her life
how did she get to the beach DNO. I love you guys and I love the news, but its about time you guys get your english straight. DOMINICA is a highly educated country. Please represent. Still got love for you though.
She “spent the afternoon BEFORE HER DEATH” … if you took the time to read then maybe you would not be making that statement. Nevertheless, utter ignorance to the fact that English is not the matter here.
RIP to the young woman and may her family and friends find comfort in dealing with her passing.
Did you as, how she got to the beach? You are really FRM DA NORTEAST.
rest in peace :cry
Yes Father! I pray that her family and friends will be comforted through the peace of Jesus, and may her soul rest in peace.

“my condolences, i hope that she was ready to meet the Lord. hey, no joke about it, that is why we do not know when our world is ending, the Lord inspired men to write the holy scriptures telling us to b reading for, not only his coming but death comes unawares, we must b ready. family and friends of the deceased acce[t my sympathy and if u r not ready, i urge u to be ready for death or for the coming of Christ, we do not know the day nor the hour”
I was just trying to say to the person who made this comment that maybe she was saved’ i was not trying to offend anyone. and yes i accepted CHRIST at the young age of seven. and anyway what has that to do with anything? that’s just a question you ask yourself as a christian because you always feel sorry for anyone who dies and does not know the Lord’ so please as i said before, did not mean to offend anyone by my comment espescially those who did not understand. once again sorry.
o by the way Pastor Hilton, if he is related to her in any way, and his wife are my friends for almost thirty years. i just don’t know all their relatives.
Vonny was a believer in Christ in everything she did! Whom are you to judge? Cant you all just let people Rest in peace?
So sad. You will definitely be missed Veronica. May your soul rest in peace.
