Fire officials seems to be cracking the nut on what caused a fire at the Roseau Cooperative Credit Union (RCCU) in Roseau on Tuesday, causing a halt in operations.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Fire and Ambulance Services, Wayne Letang, said the fire was caused by welding activity which was taking place in the basement of the new wing of the building.

“The Roseau Fire Station responded to a fire call at approximately 11:36 am and that call was received from the Roseau Cooperative Credit Union (RCCU),” he said. “The fire existed in the basement of that building and that fire was extinguished quickly upon arrival. Upon investigations it was asserted that some welding operations was being done in the new wing of the RCCU and some material close to the welder was ignited by the sparks from the welding operation.”

According to Letang damage was minimal.

He said although the building was filled with smoke, it was eventually ventilated and operations were able to continue.

First a flood. and then a fire. What is going on? Something is wrong with that building.
What is next? A thorough safety inspection should be conducted at that place.

Just think. They borrow from the bank and also save money received at the bank. Therefore I am assuming that a certain amount of money will not be on the premises. I would state, fear not.

Father in the Name of Jesus, please put out that fire. Protect our documents and money nestling in this building. You are God, and we implore you to place your mighty hand on this fire and out it. In Jesus Name we pray.
