Two office blocks, an aircraft hangar and an aircraft were gutted by a massive fire that swept through LIAT’s section of the VC Bird International Airport on Sunday (June 10) night.
According to a series of advisories issued by the company, the large fire started around 10:15 pm last night and was not reported as being under control until 12 hours later. There were no reports of injury or loss of life.
Insurance usually covers such costs after an investigation and it is such that this might be a blessing in disguise for LIAT, as due to the years of active service and the projected value to replace an aircraft today, they will receive more for it now, enough to maybe buy 2 new planes
Maybe it was time for the ole plane to rest! …
safety is best … lets be happy that no was was injured ..
I smell a rat…………..I am not buying this.
how star the fire have to get one
maybe is dem redjet people sabotage liat

wow just when american eagle has plans to shut down there services to the caribbean, this happens,we can not go destroying our own,if that’s the case here.
I believe this was well planed so LIAT could call for the Governments to bail them out again and to get reed of some workers.. LAIT is just a waist of money and time after 40 add years in the Caribbean.
AWWW Lime Golf Hotel Gone like that Dash 8
please replace with a Q
I hope its not one of the Qs they lost.

Perhaps we will see LIAT relocating to St Vincent and the Grenadines when that country’s new airport is completed.

sounds like good insurance money have to talk… look !! I did not say it was an inside job.
but I’m happy no one was hurt .
Yah..That means now…We have to pay extra money and mabye less fights putting usin a spot smh…its not gonna get better
A a maybe Liat start paying for their sins non?
Do you know who the shareholders of LIAT are? If you do, then you will know that “we (including you) have started paying for our sins.” It is really unfortunate that you would choose to make a comment like that in such a situation given the reliance of the travelling public on LIAT. Shame on you!
Rather unfortunate. Accidents do happen, it may very well be a hangar where chemicals are kept along with planes for refurbishing, since most eyewitnesses reported a heavy explosion. Everything doesn’t have to be sinister
If that is the case then there is a serious flaw in LIAT’s safety practice.
I really hope this was a genuine accident and not a sabotage.
Liat have been going through trying times lately.
Lait has been going through trying times…like what? The only airline in the region and it cant make ends meet….give me a break…
be the CEO of LIAT Jahyout, then talk. Like are you serious? Do you have a heart? People work for that airline to make ends meet. seriously
sounds like arson to me
How so?
As fire officer myself and from the information i have it may be arson.
I suggest that you join-up with the investigators in Antigua fir the investigation. Tell the Chief to send you over.
Wow, is it sabotage? Somebody has to pay for that, and guess who, the loyal customers and passengers.
No, their insurance…
No not the loyal customers and passengers na is the insurance company
So unfortunate……..What a loss to the regional airline. a setback indeed!
NOT good at all. It is the people who are going to have to pay for that recovery…alas papa met!!
Geez this airline is plagued with issues.
