A footbridge leading to a platform to view one of the boiling basins in Wotten Waven collapsed on Thursday.
Reports say approximately 15 tourists were on the bridge when it collapsed but they received only minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises.
The site was immediately closed.
Minister of tourism in Dominica always saying how much improvement he making it Dominica I can see nothing is done to attract tourist,,and ask for health and safety. When you talk they vex. But this a bad mark on Dominica tourist industry, the tourist minister should be sacked. But he is skeritt friend. They don’t care if the country go down because all of them ready to jump ship with all Dominicaobey they took loans . For the island to pay back it all gone in their pockets. Run a country they could not even run a vinyo Braf cook up by the river sidebcv
Shame
I think the Dominican government really need to think about where they are doing to the people of that beautiful island.
What the hell is the matter with some of you Dominican people a foot bridge collapse dew to bad weather condition Workers party, Q95 Radio and their stupid brainless supporters making a sing and dance about it, Thints like that happens every day around the world UK , USA ,Japan Spain and much more, if a fly goes bye so to speak workers supporters would be on TV and radio station Q95 blaming Pm Skerrit, If the prime minister of Dominica was a white man none would have a bad word to say and that is a fact.
Yes, the people who are concerned about endangering tourists and the negative repercussions to our tourism industry are… racists. That makes perfect sense.
Doesn’t it intrigue you that it was a Labor Party supporter who came on Q95 to talk about the bridge collapse and the fact that the minister of tourism and the parl rep were informed of the bridge condition?
I guess it is insignificant to you that the platform was not in safe condition and that the authorities should be held responsible
I think that tourism is some people business NOT everybody as they claim.
What became of the $100K-US that Skerrit gave to the Bahamas and Haiti. The only option here is to get it back to foot the bill when the tourists sue the Government as there were no warning posts erected at the site that would perhaps cost $55.00EC to put it up.
That bridge was perhaps built since my father was alive and never revisited so here we go.
Living on a boat afloat pan de sea is my nex option.
Which Ministry of Tourism employee is responsible for inspecting that site?!!! an investigation must be launched immediately and consequences meted out against that employee!! This cannot be tolerated.
This is the responsibility of the Foresty, Wildlife and Parks Division. They need to monitor these foot paths and cross bridges. So this means it was not monitored for a while. Supervisors open your eyes when staff claiming mileages saying they were on the fields.
The Minister for Tourism on Facebook 24/7 while Tourism, Dominica, roads and bridges fall apart!
The whole Caribbean is just accident prone.
Alas when we lose tourism…. what’s gonna happen.. no work in the place already…labor power labor power labor power. He getting fat while we starve.. his family future set. Some of all you vote for favoritism. Still cooking in one pot your life didn’t get any better… oh boy I know I burn some people. …. mammy I hungry.. just wait darling one more day for red clinic. Poor child…
Dem belly full but we hungry
15 tourist on one bridge?! it had must collapse
How do you say “Child’s Play Construction?” This is what we build to help spur our tourist industry. Great job Labor. Where’s all the passport money gone too? While some were in the Middle East having a good time on the government’s dime, bridges are failing everywhere.
Some of you expect everything to be done and everything to be perfect and normal at all times, even during bad weather.
In Dominica where it usually rains a lot what do you expect?
With the rainy weather, no matter how many inspections are conducted, can anyone prevent a bridge from collapsing?
What planet do you reside in? Certainly not earth.
When it is raining and heavily, prior to visiting those sites, inform the tourists/visitors to be careful or not visit those areas at that time.
Some people are adventurous. They should stay indoors when it is especially raining heavily and thereafter until the weather subsides and hopefully, the water dries up.
PLEASE JUST STOP YOUR NONSESE YOUR TALK IS HOGWASH ,HAVE YOU VISITED OTHER TROPICAL PLACES,DOMINICA IS DOOMED.18 million on one bridge and our tourist are @ risk.Skerrit and his corrupt government, you all are doomed.
Stay indoors? So the tourists should spend the day on the ship? And tell me how the country benefits? When you are saying that everytime it rains ppl should stay indoors
The government should upgrade the sites, period. The cruise season just started and we have rotten bridge breaking with ppl.
People just don’t care in this place. If they see that something needs repair, they just leave it to fall apart. Somebody else can fix it…….whoever that is.
Preventative maintenance is a foreign concept in Dominica. Is that part of our heritage also?
Are 15 people supposed to be on the bridge at once?
Good question, and if they arent, I dont see the sign that says otherwise
Just a set poor promoters DA have. This could have been avoided if it was frequently monitored knowing tgat it’s a path people will walk at one point or the other. Gasah! !!
It is a path for peopleto walk, not stand putting the full weight of 15 people at one time.
Hmmm, very wise observation brother. I guess have a doctorate from the Lovely Professional University in your country?
Real shame and disgrace
But why were these tourists out touring in this bad weather. It started raining two days ago. what would possess them to venture put in pouring rain? All Dominicans indoors and staying dry could they not tell?
Can’t believe everything skirooo is In charge. Social Security- Skirooo in charge.people have to beggg and ask plus cry after working for years.
My country is going backwards under skiroo. The boy is running everything like a one man show
Give an example, and what about this accident makes it a one man show
As it is being said, where there is no vision people perish. Dominicans, how much damage must this group of bandits do to this country for you all to wake up.
Skerit and his gang are doing more damage to the country than natural disasters.
Boy we are really dumb in this country eh.
Shame shame shame on the minister of tourism
What a disgrace mr minister
Don’t they do any inspections in the off season? Also they need to record dates repairs are done and check the structure every few months cause rainfall and weight can cause it to weaken. This is not good publicity for Dominica so we have to get our acts together.
you are damn write . Dominica is not ready for even it own local people. That news is disgrace for the country .Imagine this is read by a friend who want to visit Dominica .He asked do they do inspection of the structure regularly seeing its an area visited by tourist and locals.
RIGHT sister, right! Write is what you use your pen for. Please do it better next time. Thank you.
Well said…totally agree with you.
The people of Wotten Waven……….labour ka twavey……….all u have to feel more than us all u was cursing up for Collins and all u labour party…….Leave my PM ALONE
A cross bridge collapsed what does the PM or theParl Rep have to do with that? That is the responsibility of the Forestry Division. Come on man.
So you guys don’t inspect your tourist sites.. I would sue you people big time…?
You are right. Have you visited our Waitikubuli trail lately? That is if you can still find it intact.
someone should be given the responsibility to inspect infrastructures such as railings culverts wooden bridges and foot paths, concrete bridges etc. is our Govt. really giving us value for money?
Silver Bird, everything in Dominica is being left to deteriorate: roads, bridges, etc. It is really shameful, especially when I have to drive on my pot hole filled road everyday. Dominicans love it so – I swear.
So many passports are being sold to so many crooks and criminals!!!!!!Look at the state of a bridge..Obviously this KOSHONIE was not being maintained for years…That’s why I call this country a failed state, under this wicked……… DLP regime.
This is not a state!, it is an Island, Pay Attention!!!.
The U.K is an island as is Ireland. Are they not states? Singapore is also an island known as and island- and/or city state. Please, think again.
Are the folks at the Ministry of Tourism and the Forestry and Parks Division asleep? This is pure negligence!
They have been asleep for a long time. Can’t you tell?
When tourists start to sew, I hope u have enough cloth.
They will “sew” your shirt/pants or blouse/skirt for you.
…and a button on your lips lady from Toronto!
