Man dies near Glasse Pool in Boetica

The Glasse Pool in Boetica

A man who was said to be well loved in the Boetica and Delices area died around the Glasse Pool in that community on Sunday morning.

The exact cause of death is unknown but according to reports, Jonathan Etienne, of Delices, may have died from injuries to his face and head after he was dashed against the rocks by waves.

He was reportedly having a sea bath in the area and was washed by sea waves.

According to reports he was found hanging to life by two fishermen and an alarm was raised. Etienne, 69, was transported to the Boetica Village by the villagers, and was pronounced dead by the district medical practitioner.

“No one was around when it happened and we don’t even know how long he stayed lying on the rocks before he was found,” Jenner Guiste, a resident of the area told Dominica News Online. “When he was found he had extensive injuries to his face and head and he was barely breathing.”

Etienne, a retiree from England, owns Kay Wosh (Stone House) in the area and is known to be very health conscious. He is said to be well known and well loved and his death has been described as ‘a tragedy.’

A coroner’s inquest will be convened to be followed by the examination.

Foul play is not suspected, according to the police.

Meanwhile Guiste is warning visitors to the Glasse Pool that they should be very careful when visiting the area. “Its a beautiful place but you have to be very careful especially at this time of the year when the sea is rough,” he stated. “The rocks are very hard and sharp and you can be seriously injured if you fall on them.”

We cannot believe that this has happened to such a well loved and respected man… We stayed with Jonathan at Kai Woshe back in May/June 12 and he told us so many things about how to be healthy and those wonderful stories!!!
We are deeply saddened that God as taken him in the prime of his life, he was truly respected and loved in his community and beyond… Uncle, they say heaven is a lovely place (if u knew him, you too would have heard of this story!)Whoever reads this, look up his story: “Heaven is a lovely place..” He will be in our hearts, missed forever but remembered always.. full of stories… Take care Uncle.

This is sad. Being health-conscious, he had many years ahead of him to enjoy his life, his undertakings and serving his customers. If only he knew he would not have gone to that area alone.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!

This is a very sad story. This man was quite young and health conscious and it is really a sad way for someone to lose his life. The area looks so beautiful yet one has to be so careful there. We must be very careful of our surroundings and where we go. May his families/relatives be comforted at such a moment.
    PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May his soul rest in peace. from all account he seems to have been a well liked individual. When Dominicans like you nothing can change that, and that is a good thing. My hope is as result of this unfortunate incident measures will be put in place by the villagers or members of the village council to erect some warning signs to warn would be bathers or visitors to that particular area and other areas around the country, to the likely dangers which exist. We all have to play our part to ensure our safety and that of others. We are the Government. We the people.”

He will certainly be missed. He had a very positive outlook on life and was always inspring people to do good, live well and eat well. He showed up in Dominica overweight and with a bag full of prescription drugs more than a decade ago. By going back to his childhood roots of eating natural fresh foods, exercising and taking in every bit of environment (water, air, land, moon, stars, trees, etc) he was able to be off all the medications and do things he never thought he would have done again in life. It is sad that it is within the same routine of exercise and wellness he has passed.

Does it matter whch village he is from? He was a well-loved Dominican and we, yes we, I do not know him but I feel sad too. He must have suffered alot. I know the rocks. The pool is really inviting but the waves are murderous. I hope this does not happen to anyone again. May he rest in peace
