A man is in stable condition in hospital following an accident in Grand Bay earlier today.
The man has been identified as Avril Francis of Bagatelle, who was operating an excavator when it toppled over, burying him in rubble, according to rescue officials.
The officials say they responded to a call at around 11:00 am and another excavator was used to retrieve Francis.
He was first taken to the Grand Bay Hospital and later to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was admitted.
The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
SAD
I feel sorry for the man, i wish him a quick recovery.Rest plenty until your strength replenishes.
HOPES HE MAKES A FULL RECOVERY…GOD IS GOOD
I wish him a very speedy recovery. On the other hand overturning an excavator is very rarely heard of and is usually operators error 99% of the time.

Man, count your blessings. This accident look bad.
Wishing you all the best in your recovery.
safety in the work place, have you guys head of OSHA and other such safety associations…. bet he wasnt wearing a hard hat or safety glasses.
what the hell would that do u come talk that nonsence why cant u just say something nice like everybody else
I think you need to look up the meaning of OSHA..THANK YOU
Work safety. I agree with you. These types of jobs require safety wear/gear including boots. This should be mandatory. It could hopefully save lives and avoid injuries. It is something the government should look into and have implemented.
Would the hard hat and goggles stop the rubble from covering him? Really now? smh
Obviously they could not if the rubble falls on the worker. However, there is a possibility that they could save their life and avoid certain injuries. Those people should not be working alone also in the event that an accident occurs that others could immediately assist them and hopefully avoid a human disaster. Precaution is better than cure.
oh boy so sorry to hear that hope you get well at the soonest
pray dat he get well soon
speedy recovery…..the angels were with you today
Ouch! Speedy and full recovery is my wish for you and more strength to your loved ones during this time.
Pray that you have a speedy recovery.

Was he trained to use that equipment?
he has been operating this equipment many years.. He is well trained..It was just an unfortunate incident..The good Lord was watching over him..
expierence is the greatest teacher and trainer…he been doing dis for more years than you have on earth
How u mean if he was trained to use that equipment, i do not think they would use somebody who is untrained to do these kind of jobs. I know he has been working with these machines for years now, hope he gets well soon.
Would that have prevented the slide? smh. and by the way, yes he was trained to use it!!!!!!!!!1
ppl the machine didnt turn over on its own….happened bec of a pile of sand coming from above that flipped it over
