One person critically injured in accident at Jimmit

The Fire and Ambulance Services are currently attending to a vehicular accident which occurred moments ago on the jimmit highway.

The two vehicles involved a van and an SUV which were travelling in opposite directions and collided head-on.

Information reaching Dominica News Online is that, as a result of the accident, one woman is critically injured and three other people are nursing serious wounds.

DNO will continue to follow that story

I guess with the fabulous roads, there should have also been traffic codes enforcement, such as speed limit enforcement

Drinking , and driving again? this is a common practice in dominica, and the caribean, that practice is the root of most of all the accident unless the police chief, and who ever is responsible applied, or enforce the law we will contineu to lose life and limbs, and add more work to the emergence room staff and the economy , yes road blocks , drunk driving violation, more police enforcement stiffer fine jail time untill that happend the trend will contineu.

My prayer for Dominica in 2012 and beyond is that the Spirit of Father God will hover over the land and chase away every spirit of premature death, every blood-thirsty demons and the spirit of drugs and alcohol.

I pray that our young people’s desire will be to serve the almighty God with the desire to increase in His knowledge and to walk in His love and righteousness. That young as well as our older men will take their rightful positions in society and become Godly leaders of society and at home.

Everything the locust, cankerworm, palmerworm and caterpillar stole we take by by authority, in JESUS’ NAME.

God bless DOMINICA! A NEW A FRESH BLESSING FROM 2012 and beyond!.

COVER DOMINICA FATHER GOD – GIVE UNTO HER THE FORMER AND LATTER RAIN.

The driver of the van was intoxicated, not speeding. The accident occurred right before Max Mart on the Jimmit Highway. The driver of the van went off the road and hit the cement top of a culvert ripping off his front left wheel causing him to swerve into oncoming traffic and colliding head-on with the suv. Contrary to the initial report, of the 5 persons involved only the female passenger of the van was seriously injured, barring any internal injuries that wasn’t initially apparent. Please get your facts straight, and it is disappointing to see so many comments ridiculing our roads when the persons posting are completely ignorant of the circumstances surrounding the accident

    • Malatete
      January 16, 2012

Well said Ras! People driving under the infuenc and not a breathaliser in sight! The people smoking their weed and driving are not any better. All the time I hear boasting:”Dominica drivers are the best in the world!” by people , who have never left the island and I wonder “by who’s standards?” Our driving test is a joke, not to mention the instructors. Come on, we can do better. We are not attuned to driving on fast roads like the new west coast road and must also upgrade our driving. There will be more accidents if we don’t tighten up.

    • Justice and Truth
      January 16, 2012

DA has some good roads especially today. In many cases, accidents occur through drivers’ error.
The driver of the van was intoxicated? He is a negligent driver. Surely the driver should have known better. Why do people still drink and drive or utilize illegal drugs? Which one of these caused him to go off the road and into oncoming traffic from the opposite end?
I always state if people wish to drive, do not drink. If they drink, do so only at their home and remain there until they recover and do not drive under the influence. You are exposing yourself to injury and fatality including anyone who may be in the vehicle with you.

Wow! I pray that everyone will have a speedy recovery. Let me caution drivers to keep to your side (left) always. The roads are tempting but they are very smooth and it is easy to lose control so exercise extreme caution while driving.

Let us all be safe in 2012, drivers and pedestrians alike. God bless Dominica, God bless us all.

    • Justice and Truth
      January 16, 2012

      @ Watching

I do hope all drivers read the news and comments on DNO’s Website. If they did, they would know to drive safely. Furthermore prior to driving they took driving lessons. Therefore why are they so negligent? Every country has its share of inconsiderate and reckless drivers who also lack road courtesy.
I do think that some drivers also lack a certain degree of common sense for they do not utilize same on the roads.
Some of them will pay the price either through their own lives and that of others or through injuries.

      @ Anonyous

Are you residing overseas? If you are, you are not aware that many roads have been repaired, re-constructed and widened. This is why it is called a highway. Dominicans are not so stupid to call a narrow road a highway. Smarten up and utilize your common sense if you have any. This means to think.

    • Extreme Dominican
      January 26, 2012

FYI, The roads are very wide with dividers, light reflectors, cat eye and where it is more dangerous, safety walls and railings.
