Police are investigating the sudden death of an Antiguan national who arrived on island a few weeks ago.
According to Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent Claude Weekes, Jermaine Shane Boston, 27, arrived in Dominica on June 7th and had moved to Warner where he resided with his grandmother.
It was also reported that Boston’s mother is a Dominican national who moved to Antigua many years ago.
Weekes said Boston went to bed on Monday night somewhere about 9:00 pm and on Tuesday.
Between 7:00 am and 7:30 am the following day, his grandmother sought to catch his attention but realized he was not responding.
By 9:15 am, she sought assistance of a district nurse.
Boston was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) where upon arrival having been examined he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
“There is going to be a post-mortem, we expect that to be done today as well as an opening of an inquest…,” Weekes noted.
rest in peace
Condolences to our Antiguan brothers up there
You are all saying the same thing. What I would like to know is why it took the grandmother so long to get any medical help? An hour and forty five minutes later. And why the district nurse? Are there no doctors in Warner?
My condolences to his family. It is vital that the cause of death is ascertained. Indeed the family would want to know the cause of death and they have the right to know. May he rest in peace.
Let me elaborate on that just a bit more from a scientific, and medical point of view: An autopsy is the examination of a body after death to determine the actual cause of death; called postmortem examination, and necropsy also.
An autopsy is ordered by a coroner, or medical examiner whenever the cause of death is unknown, or the death takes place under suspicious circumstances. Unless an autopsy is demanded by public authorities, it cannot be performed without the permission of the next of kin of the of the deceased. At lease that’s how it is conducted in America.
Autopsies are a valuable source of medical knowledge. I participated in a few even when I was a premed student! So I know for a fact an inquest is not necessary; only in Dominica!
I believe I have not heard the word “inquest”, probably since I left Dominica.
First, the autopsy is performed. Then the inquest, if necessary.
He is Antiguan. He died suddenly. An inquest is appropriate.
The Antiguan government must be notified that one of its nationals died suddenly in Dominica. The family in Antigua would also want to know what caused his death.
Inquest – formal investigation
An inquest is a judicial inquiry in common law jurisdictions, particularly one held to determine the cause of a person’s death. Conducted by a judge.
A legal or judicial inquiry, usually before a jury, especially an investigation made by a coroner into the cause of a death.
An investigation conducted by a coroner, sometimes with the aid of a jury, into the cause of death of a person.
A judicial inquiry, especially one into the cause of a sudden, unexpected or suspicious death.
he arrived in dominica on sunday 7th june
Why an inquisition unless foul play, or murder is suspected?
An inquest should only be necessary if injuries were visible on his body, nevertheless, the only thing that is appropriate at this time would be an autopsy to see if he died of natural causes, of some undetected internal disease!. If you suspect murder; and his grandmother is suspected just say so.
Young people die of natural causes you know!
To Mr Telemaque.
Hello and good afternoon my people. They should always conduct an Autopsy to determine the cause of death which could help to family determine if their family are predisposed to some kind of medical condition.
Well, I am aware that an autopsy is a must, that is why I commented; if he died from natural causes or some internal unidentified disease, the autopsy should reveal the cause.
However an inquisition or inquest is required if the cause of death is unknown. In the event cuts, and bruises or any significant indentation was found on his body; then an inquest might be be necessary.
Nevertheless, an inquest is simply a judicial, or official inquiry and examination before a jury or a coroner!
Now an inquest is a thing of the past, even when murder is suspected. The medical technology is so advanced , if one dies from a condition, a disease medical doctors specializing in autopsy can determine how long to person suffered from the condition, and state the magnitude of damage the diseases caused.
If you go a doctor these days and complain of a headache, there are medical instrument which they can use to probe your head and know if your head hurts or not. I was probe once! It turned…
The person died suddenly that why there is an inquisition.
