President of the Dominica Evangelical Association Bishop Bill Daniel is calling on the Haitian community to be courageous.
Bishop Daniel, who is also pastor of the People’s Pentecostal Family Church, is advising Haitians to seek spiritual guidance in the wake of Tuesday’s devastating earthquake.
“We believe that God is in everything that happens and his hands of mercy and grace will be extended to everyone that calls upon. We are saying to the people here that God is good and he will carry them through. We say to those who have lost families and friends that they should be string on God. Sometimes we don’t understand, but he knows what is happening and he is in charge,” the religious leader said.
Thousands of residents reportedly died when the 7.0 earthquake struck approximately 14 miles west of the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince.
JJ, as your opening paragraph quite rightly states, its mother nature who is the nemesis of the poor Haitian people. So whenever a catastrophe of this magnitude engulfs mankind anywhere on the planet, the god believers starts thrashing about for excuses. Its simply because their faith have been shattered by the god they worship being so cruel in claiming the lives of thousands of innocent men women and children without anykind of compassion whatsoever.
It is indeed good stable and non corruptable governments that can elevate its people from grinding poverty and despair. They can provide the neccessary institutions that will educate their citizens from ignorance and superstitions. Science and Technology has advanced at a tremendous pace in the last fifty years, and thats inspite of all those god cults and faith based institutions that have sprung up in that time. Science and Technology has enhanced the lives of millions around the globe. But yet in this the 21st century people are still allowing themselves to be brainwashed into ignorance….
PS; and that includes many of the rulers who are governing our lives..
when those poor people aren’t trying to survive their own government and economy, Mother Nature periodically slams them with hurricanes, earthquakes, you name it… Yet for some reason the Haitians remain for the most part a peaceful, optimistic, even good-natured people.
We could all take a lesson from them. Most of the people in Haiti will survive, and the country will manage to go on in some form. The problem is the people there never seem to be able to enjoy a run of good fortune: An improving economy that elevates their standing of living, honest government that makes a legitimate effort to provide for the general welfare.
Things like education, infrastructure, shelter, medical care, etc. seem to be forever beyond the country’s grasp.
