A six-year-old child has become Dominica’s first road fatality for 2012.
The police report that Dalia Bertrand of Grand Fond , was knocked down by a DOWASCO pick-up vehicle.
Police spokesman Kenth Matthew says the accident occurred at the Grand Fond public road at about 3pm Friday.
According to the police, the vehicle registration number TJ 593, was being driven by Paul Barry at the time of the accident.
The victim is the daughter of Petrona George of Grand Fond and Kerwin Collier Betrand of Laudat.
My heart goes out the two families especially the dad he’s been through so much, with court and the mum. God does things in mysterious ways. Rest in peace my child, you gone to a better place, but you will never be forgotten.

I am sorry that the child has passed away but come on people it’s not no ones fault the child life have been lost yes, think what could have been done to prevent that, first of all there was a mask man but that was not the case they were playing with the boy in the mask so it not like they was afarid of the person the driver did not see her it was at an intersection she ran on the transports the point was not fast thats why it is an accident, when things like that happening people are looking for someone to blame but they never blame themselves, she should have been at her home with her sister and aunty and other family members, the day before that child was abuse by her sister, because she was playing with the sister child, she got her head knock on a wall for that think of it people no love no love. my sympathy and dearest condolences to the family of the sweet,little girl.the people that drive the company vans drive very reckless that is why these things will happen on the road.the drivers drive with no care of civilians or other drivers.they are always overtaking on the road,especially under the cliff in canefield.i have seen many near misses with a dowasco vehicle overtaking under the cliff on the wrong side of the road.

There’s no mention made of masked men, or other childre, or whether or not the child was pronounced dead onn site or at the hospital, what her injuries were or anything like that. Oh I am so sorry for all of you. Mother, father, little girl, driver, masked man and the entire village. This was an accident please don’t find fault. It could happen to anyone, the houses and yards are very close to the road. The children and everyone walk up and down in that village. There are no sidewalks and it’s a dead end road. The children use it as a play area when not busy. I lived on back street and it’s a miracle I didn’t run over one of them. We buy fish and vegetables from trucks and the children love to jump on the back and take a ride up the hill without even letting the driver know they are there! It made me so afraid for them they could fall and die and the driver doesn’t even know they are on the bumper. Please people teach the children the dangers of the road, and stop teaching them to fear imaginary soukooya and Loogawou! Petto you are in my prayers may the lord give you strength. Peace xoxo

How did this happen? Normally, when these utility vehicles passing you can hardly identify the writings on them. The more we stress that drivers need to slow down when driving through residential areas, they continue with the bad practice of speeding. Hope this is not the case.

they are always in a hurry especially those utility trucks. just last year one ran my car off the road after making several attempts to overtake in some ridiculous areas. my five year old was in the back seat but thankfully he always wear seatbelt. i was terrified and the worst part,when the police arrived the **** *** did not even have his license with him.
