Teachers and students alike of the Pierre Charles Secondary School are devastated at news of the passing of Kent Pemberton, a teacher at the institution.
Pemberton succumbed to injuries sustained when a truck collided with his motorcycle earlier this morning.
Principal of the PCSS, Mrs. Shirley Samuel described the scene at the school this morning as one of shock.
“At around 10 a.m. we called the students into a small assembly and told them of Mr. Pemberton’s passing and they really took it hard. We were all in shock. I still don’t want to believe it,” Samuel said sadly. “We got the Ministry’s [of Education] approval and we let them off for the day.”
Three counselors from the Ministry of Education were called in an attempt to help those who were particularly grieved.
Despite these efforts a number of students and one teacher fainted and had to be taken to the Grandbay Health Centre for treatment.
Deputy Principal of PCSS Adriana Henderson said that Pemberton was well-liked by the students and she herself is in disbelief.
“I can’t understand. It’s like…I cannot see it. I was already expecting to be without him for a while [after hearing of the accident] but this…” she could barely manage to continue, but did manage to say that another teacher, Sharna Robin, stayed with Pemberton until his death at the hospital.
Pemberton taught Auto Mechanics at the school and was said to have taken special interest in students who had academic challenges.

To the family of Mr. Pemberton, I know what you are going through. Almost 6 months ago My son went the same way.
May the Good Lord be with you all.
With proffound sadness i must pull myself to write
Words will never be able to express the special bond we shared or the great person you were… you were my best friend Pembo. Why did you have to leave so soon? You were the very last to leave me at the hotdog cart every night as the self appointed security. All of us on the block at Kandiz hotdog cart will miss you especially your deep solid contributions in our nightly heated debates discussions and jokes.
You confessed you had a problem seeing people in need and not being able to help. So you stayed brokes and hungry so someone could pay their rent or fed their kids [although you never had kids of your own, kept yourself pure inspite of peer preassure or as you said “wine n blok.lol”]On their behalf i say Thank you for your support to humanity even if no one would ever know
. A loving , caring, jovial role model friend. We still cant believe it.
You will always be in our hearts and in my memory of you go way back from SDA,at Autotrade, Astaphans,Best Buy,Sukies marine,PCSS, on your beloved bike, on the hustle delivering stuff for Courts, on the dance floor, on the cell phone for hours councelling or giggling with God knows who.
Your last words to Urban that night was to marry your cousin Beverly, I pray he listens.
Man I can go on but too much tears… LOVE R.I.P
RIP
KENT WAS THE ONLY RIDER I NEVER SAW WITHOUT HELLMET
My heartfelt sympathy to his family, principal of the school, teachers and students. The shock of hearing of his accident and sudden passing is not an easy matter to take. May God help you at this time.
May his soul rest in peace. Amen!
I read of the accident on DNO and wondered what happened to cause this accident. I thought which of the drivers were driving at a high speed and which one was at fault?
I am deeply saddened that yet another life and a young one has passed away due to an accident. I reside miles away but this sad news bothers me immensely. Lives are too precious and they should be preserved.
Roseau does not have street lights. Since they may never be implemented and if ever, not soon, the government should have lines placed at the end of streets and in certain other areas. Also for pedestrians. They should be conspicuous lines as yellow lines which rain will not wash out.
The vehicles will then have to slow down when coming to a stop. They should stop at the line and look out for oncoming traffic and pedestrians. All vehicle drivers should respect those lines, be it a motorcycle driver. Likewise pedestrians.
Drivers of all please respect and observe road safety that there will be no more head-on collisions, injuries and death. Be alert when you are driving and be considerate of other drivers!
Roseau is a town and is also not a place to race your vehicle. Drivers should never race at any time. You are not driving on a race track. You will all be happier people for it and will live longer.
God bless you!
To Mr Pemberton’s family i can say from the comments here that you have lost a great asset in your family but God really loves what is good and if there was a vacant space for Pembo in heaven then let us let it be. Be consoled that you raised a great individual as i join you in thanking God for his life and the positive impact he made on people’s lives. my sympathies to you and all those lives he touched. It really hurts my heart when i hear of the passing of such great individuals and i pray to God that he will make haste to send a great replacement for the PC Secondary School and to fill in the void that Pembo has left
God be with you
To the family of Kent my deepest condolences. Pembo was a great gift from the Lord. His gone but will be in the hearts of us all. I had the opportunity to work with him for some time and I can say I never saw him angry, always smiling and joking. May his soul RIP
To the family of kent I say hold strong in the Lord. He gives and he takes. He was a loving person and will be miss by all. We love you Pembo.
is true, instead of building a state house which hardly ever get used why didn’t the minister use the money to get more up to date, more efficeient medical equipment for the hodpital. the hospital here is crap yet he turns a blind eye to it and builds a state house. People die of carelessness and negligence and lack of proper medical care here, yet the country will have nice big furbished swtae house. Can someone tell me whats wrong with this picture? Maybe if the hospital here had better equipment and staff who actually cared about human life the guy would still be alive.
tru
that is so very true
I learnt the sad news this afternoon and still cannot believe he’s gone. God knows why so let us not question that. TO HIS FAMILY PLEASE ACCEPT MY SYMPATHY AND GOD HELP YOU THROUGH THIS TRYING TIME. PEMBO still cannot believe you’re gone. PCSS AND STAFF PLEASE BE STRONG. THINKING OF Ms. B & L AND Mr. R.
REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER
MAY GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY MEMBERS AT THIS TIME
PLEASE ACCEPT OUR CONDONLENCES FROM STUDENTS AND TEACHERS OF THE GOODWILL SECONDARY SCHOOL
My sympathies are with the family of the deceased. I, too, lost my son from a motorcycle accident nine years ago and I’m still feeling the loss. Be strong and remember the good times you shared. That has helped me a lot.
accept my condolences
The reckless truck driver should have his license revoked and charged for manslaughter.
By the way, “Pembo” did not die on impact (on the Bayfront); he died at the Casualty Department. Why was that?
If it was another Casualty Department with an efficient emergency response medical staff would he have lived?
Could his death at the hospital be the result of neglect?
strupessssssssss
i am sad, pissed, hurt, and lots more things that i can’t even express.pembo was a very dare friend and we are lessen by the loss of such a great individual.he was kind hearted and reserved.and light in the time of darkness in that he was always there for his friends…i went to school with him for 5 yr then 2 in collage.there is not a sole that can otter a bad word about him…

A time in grief. Sadness and silence.
May God guide, protect, and bless my Alma Mater, PCSS is filled with strong-minded and strong willed individuals. I may not have known this teacher (may his soul rest in peace) but students, please please. He is now smiling and looking over you, MAKE HIM PROUD and strive not only to succeed, but to reach beyond your goal and be recognized as the best amongst the best there is. The vehicle may have paused for a moment but his memories will remain. It’s time to continue on this course even without him here physically but he is in your hearts forever!
May his soul rest in peace. Take care PCSS, One love (~_~)
A good friend, co-worker, role model – especially with riding safely and respectfully. That is why it was very difficult to accept that he was involved in such an accident. However, the truth can’t lie.
Pembo, we will miss you bro. God speed.
To the family, my heartfelt condolences, this is a real shocker and a terrible loss. May the good Lord watch over you in this time of need and guide you all through according to His will.
Amen.
aryo sure voodo do not take him out
This is so true, we have a lot of Haitians in TR City, you can see fire in them people eyes, Haitians are a bunch of envy and evil people, Oh God Protect Our Youth from the Evil Doers, something is definitely wrong in Dominica since the arrival of Haitians to the island, Lord We Need Your Help, Father Let Your Heavenly Light Shine Upon Your People in the Island of Dominica
To the Family Accept my Heartfelt Sympathy
I loved him so much, and its so sad to see he left me and gone… I’m at work and I’m still in tears. RIP and I will always have you in my heart…
May his soul rest in peace, & wish his family plenty of courage!!!!!
Very sad news thiqs morning, god people dont stay to long on this earth.
He did a very god job for our young people, thanks to him where ever he may be.
French Teacher
My hearfelt condolences goes out to the Pemberton family and to the principal, staff and students of PCSS.
Hope you find strength and courage in Yahweh as you go through this difficult time.
Your point????
shut up
DNO investigate the fact surrounding Kent’s death please:
From what i gather, Kent died from LACK OF MEDICAL ATTENTION and there was no reason he should have died. They knew he could not breath, he himself was begging for help, he was conscious, coherent – he may have had a collapsed lung and they did NOTHING (unless you call putting on an oxygen mask help, though it useless if he cannot breathe). He was trying to help himself. This is so sickening, it makes me mad, and boy, if this is true I think someone, or some poeple ought to be punished for the gross negligence.
I even heard the Doctor P was inciting that the boy was driving carelessly… What the F&^% did he know????
of course you got your information via “Radio Gel”
Recall the passing of Dr. Bernard Yankey and some others. It was said that an investigation would be conducted into his death. To my knowledge, unless I missed out on the news, we have not yet heard and read a thing about this investigation.
We must face the facts and admit that Dominica is in dire need of some experienced medical and specialist doctors. Some people are dying who should be still alive.
I meant to say that some people have died who should be alive.
I strongly agree. That is the outcome of having inexperienced people working in an emergency room. We need certified and experienced Drs. working in the casulty. Im certainly sure a lil puncture to the lung would have released the pressure and blood thus saving the guy’s life.We need men in the ER who are not scared of getting dirty rather than walking around with tight pants and shirts with fancy shoes.
Peace, i agree with you 1000%. I am not yet a certified Dr but there are certain things that you learn in pre-med and other things come with experience. I don’t know why they keep putting ‘fresh’ people in a department that calls for experience, quick thinking and getting your hands dirty. I am very pissed with the whole thing. Why play with peoples lives.
Pembo was a good example of what a young should be like… he was a mentor, a very good friend, a role model… a person who loved God and his life, he was simple and accepted things without complaining….i will miss him and his famous quotes like, “alas bondieu”, “sa lavi”….he called the bike his baby and would not trade her for anything..lol, his memory will live on….
moreover… nothing is being said about the unprofessional work being done at the hospitals that have caused the death of so many!!!!!! i am sooooooooooooo angry right now! the negligence in carrying out their responsibilities! For example, Grace Joseph- terrible accident at mahaut… april 10, 2010… tells the nurses at the PMH that she is dying… what do they do? put her on bed rest… i mean SERIOUSLY!!!???!! what is that… Jesus hold my tongue… and when the news is given it’s always “***** died at the PMH at….” and i’m here like, yeah… why don’t you say WHY that person died? is time Dominicans stop acting like tissue paper and step up! OPEN YOUR EYES FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!!!
This is a very sad situation, and my heart goes out to all those affected at the loss of a good man who helped so many
Truth, we get so angry – we have every reason to get angry especially when death happens so suddenly. The Staff at PMH don’t have an easy job, and they work hard do it every day and night to save lives and solve problems. We shouldn’t be so hasty to accuse them, we only ever hear about the bad and not the good.
My condolences to the Pemberton family
i am not blaming anybody. whilst it is true we may not have proper equipment at the PMH, but more needs to be done to save lives….. when i look at trauma in the ER, patients like Grace and Kent would have been rushed/hurried to the x-ray or ct scan departments; sometimes to allow the blood to flow a hose would be inserted on their side just underneath the breast areas….i am not a nurse or doctor but sometimes when emergencies reaches the pmh not enough is done.
you see now… no one ever knows if the next minute will come… yet most people look at death partially… EVERYBODY knows how to say R.I.P and stuff like that it’s as if it is being rehearsed everytime someone dies… how do you KNOW if you are next? death_ an instant impact on your schedule or on expected schedule time… you may Never expect death… yet it just happens. what next?
its so sad to begin with. dis was the best teacher someone cud ever ask 4.. he was fun, caring and was loved by us all.. my hearts aches knowin dat he is no longer walkin dis earth… may his soul rest in peace… i am still in here wonderin if dis nightmare will end but this is death n we r left to cope with it.. *sigh* ….. tears ….
my boy you were one of a kind .. special person..rip my boy..wish i had the opportunity to say bye
This is so sad….i still shiver when i think about the fact that u are really gone.May you soul rest in peace….you were indeed A GOOD MAN WITH A GOOD HEART…GONE BUT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
I would like to extend condolences to the Pemberton family on the passing away of their loved one, may the lord give you all the strength to go through this ordeal. Hold strong and you all are in my prayer.
Thank you all for your kind words and prayers..he was a great brother and friend And will truly be missed love u bro
To the family and friends, please accept my heartfelt sympathy. With all these lovely remarks, it appears he touched quite a bit of lives. God needed him now, we cannot understand, but let us continue living his legacy of peace and love for all men. He will surely be missed.
may we all find the strength of God in this time is great grief

So sad to think of you not here, that you won’t be at another dinner with us cracking jokes and being one of the first to hit the dance floor and drop it like it’s hot. Who’s gonna hit the dancefloor with all the ladies at our annual dinner now? I can still see you moon walking and pedalling back, vogueing and doing all kinda funny dances at this year’s dinner. Our dinners will never be quite the same. MH be strong. To the Pemberton family especially Pembo Sr. my heartfelt condolences. RIP Pembo…
Ditto ALP – couldn’t have said it better re our dinners –
Will always remember his kindness, smiles and dance moves (especially dancehall) – boy HE COULD DANCE. His sweet attitude made you feel all warm and fuzy inside.

Kent … my blood… my brother .. I… We’re gonna miss you.. I just don’t know what to say..
lOVE YOU SIR. YOU’LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE!!1
I remember the days we laughed, ran around, kix off, talk shit, Pembo was a very positive person he did not know how to hate, he loved everyone especially those with disabilities and slow in learning, he would take his time with them.
He was one of our most cautious riders and drivers, he always wore his helmet always. I can hear him saying Lord if you ever have to allow a man to hit me do not let me suffer, quick and sharpe, he could not see people suffer and did not want to suffer either.
Cannot stop crying, he will forever be in our hearts… we love you Pem… the girls
I am still in shock. This is so hard to believe. You were such a joy to be around and now you are no more. Just the sound of your name would bring a smile to my face. I will surely miss you. I know your family took in kinda hard. Pembo you will be missed. The sad thing is that you were always a careful driver. Didn’t take chances on the road and yet still you had to go in such a manner at such a young age. This really sucks.
so sad
its so sad to loose one of our role models. His time on earth has come to an end but his memories will never depart from the minds and hearts of his love ones.i pray for his family, friends, colleagues and students that they will seek strength in the almighty and come to terms with his sudden death.
You were one of the best friends and advisors I’ve even had and I never imagined this day would

I pray that the Almighty God will be your source of strength at this trying moment. Be strong for each other. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
PRO – Dominica Association of Teachers
Kent this one will rock TR!!! You were one of the good young people of TR. So much negativity there now and to lose a positive person is a blow the the community. I all the way in England and all i could do is hit the floor and scream and ask why? it really hard to lose a good young person. It Hard. To his mom and sister… you are in our prayers. we stand in solidarity with you.
Pembo and I were in Secondary school together though he was ahead of me but from them he was always cool. When my brother called to tell me what had happened I had to stop driving because I was in total shock as Pembo and I were speaking just the day before.
The funny thing is unlike most of the other bike riders, he is a very careful rider and yet this had to happen to him. True, God knows why He allowed it, but I pray for strength for his family, students, colleagues and friends.
He will be surely missed…
so sad he was really a cautious rider and a cool guy may your soul rest in peace pembo …
May his soul rest in peace. One love
I dont understand this…..we were talking about you coming down to Canada and us hanging out together, I was going to show you around. I was so excited to show you around! You just got accepted a few days ago and now im laying in bed balling my eyes out…I dont understand. The good thing is you touch everybody in a positive way and we will never forget you, NEVER. The bad thing is these young boys down there in D.A thinking that their invincible on their motorcycle wont use your tragedy as a lesson.
I love you, I love you, I love you,
Chantel
will always miss you pembo ….especially the days at tech col…….
Kent was preparing to travel to Canada to further his studies in Auto Engineering as part of a capacity development initiative of the Ministry of Education. He was scheduled to depart for studies last September but there was a mix-up and his departure was moved to this summer. He was very excited about the opportunity and was planning to visit the US while studying.
Kent was a very careful rider and rode in a defensive style so as to protect himself against other road users who apparently have no respect for bikers. The rule on the road nowadays is “size matters”. The right of way is set aside and the driver with the bigger vehicle sets his rule.
I am hopeful that those policy makers currently involved in the road safety initiative will do something about drivers who do not drive with sense. Here’s a suggestion I have for several years now: Licensed drivers should be tested every three to five years in order to maintain their license.
ONE THING HE ALWAYS HAD HIS HELMET ON. I NEVER SAW HIM WITHOUT ONE
DEAR LORD THERE ARE LOTS BAD AND WICKED PEOPLE ON EARTH,CAN U PLEASE GIVE THE GOOD ONES A CHANCE,AND TAKE BAD AND WICKED ONES, WE NEED THE GOOD ONES TO TEACHER GOOD THINGS ON EARTH SO THIS WORLD CAN BE A BETTER WORLD
Yes it is sad but probably he is giving the wicked ones a second chance to turn from their wicked ways.
To the Pemberton Family stay strong in the Lord! He knows it all and even we ask why, we will never understand it all. Keep Kent in your heart as the man he was. Yes it is so sad when we look at our love ones being taken . Memories of the man Kent was will always remain and I know they will be sweet since he was a very nice person. Hold and cherish those memories and you will continue.
this is so so sad to hear i do not know him but i felt the grief and pain of friends family my condolences goes out to his relatives and friends. another young one gone.
i am still in tears and i am still shocked. you were a great guy during high schoool pembo. May your soul rest in peace
I don’t know Mr. Pemberton, but I can say from all the comments I have read, he seemed to be a great, and positive individual. May his memory live on and may he Rest In Peace.
