UPDATE: French citizens safe

Six French nationals who were reported missing on Sunday after attending the World Creole Music Festival are safe.

Reports were that rigid-hulled inflatable boat was supposed to have left Dominica for Martinique on Sunday but never reached its destination.

However the French daily newspaper Le Parisien reported that the four men and two women had been found and had returned to Martinique “without any hindrance.”

According to the newspaper authorities in Martinique and French Guiana launched rescue operations on Sunday to track the missing boat after a phone call from the girlfriend of one of the men on the boat.

The six were returning from Dominica to Martinique after attending the 16th edition of the World Creole Music Festival.

Thats very poor reporting I must say! where was the boat found? were they found on the same sunday they were reported missing? what caused them to stray away from the destination?

And at 2.02pm our time the BBC put out this report:

1402: The French transport ministry has said that at least six French citizens boating in the Caribbean are still missing after they disappeared during Hurricane Sandy’s storm swell. Officials told the Sipa news agency that the group disappeared between the islands of Martinique and Dominica on Sunday.

Amazing how news can get twisted by mistake…and be still running hours after all has been solved. It’s in the Daily Mail newspaper in England as well with photos of boats washed up in New York!!!

To God give the Glory, Great things he have done. Thank you Lord for letting those be found safe and sound. Let the high cymbals and the low sounding cymbals and let all that is within us praise the Lord. Grace, grace we were spared of more deaths even if not our family. Martiniquans raise your voices and praise and thank the Lord.

That sea was so rough since Friday, don’t know why anyone would want to venture out in such a small craft. Let’s hope they did not leave but I am sure if they did not, they would have at least made some kind of contact with their relatives.

    Let’s pray for the best.

The people reached safe.( as per la Une Martinique) They were not even aware that they were declared lost at sea. At least, someone cared about them to send out the rescue team.

Really Sorry to hear that. If, though, the authorities in D/ca are not sure that the vessel actually left the island, how are the French police able to report that the individuals are missing ‘at sea’?

And how long would it take for D/can authorities to find out if the vessel left the island? In minutes Port officials should be able to verify whether or not. Anyway, I hope they are found safe.

I am sure there is a full blown, coordinated, ongoing search and rescue operation being executed. However, in the absence of foul play, I think their vessel encountered some maritime or mechanical difficulty.

Its always heart breaking to loose a life and that is independent of one’s experiences.

I pray that the almighty will guide them safely home to their families and friends.

  31. October 29, 2012

You all better do something drastic to find these people. I wonder if these people realized the rough seas and warnings and still took the chance of traveling. I hope they never left. I also hope that if they did leave they are found safe and unharmed. Good luck in your search. Sorry to hear of the individual that drowned after having fun during the WCMF.

They are all safe in Martinique.
They had not informed their families in Martinique that they would stay longer in Dominica .
They arrived in Martinique today without even knowing they Were looked after !
The Dominican Coast Guards reacted very quickly and efficiently and sent out a rescue boat.
Good to know they are home and safe.
