A man was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on a section of Goodwill Road near the port in Fond Cole on Saturday morning.
The police have identified the man as 39-year-old Samuel Alie, also known as Blanc, of Boetica living in Church Lane, Goodwill.
Alie worked as a security guard at the Public Works Corporation.
The accident occurred around 6:00 on Saturday morning.
Police report that Alie was struck by a vehicle driven by Layne Royer of Massacre, who was driving on the wrong side of the road.
The police say Royer was driving an SUV, registered PE710, when he struck Alie.
Alie suffered multiple injures to his body and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.
Investigations continue.

MY HEARTFELT SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY OF MR BLANC. MAY GOD GIVE YOU ALL STRENGTH AT A TIME LIKE THIS.
Blanc May your Soul rest in peace. And lets thinking of it… we all make mistake but thats a bad mistake driver. Dont drink and drive on the wrong side. Your father in law cant save you here now.
who tell u he was drinking u a eating the dog vomit
This is a tough situation for both the driver and the victim’s family. There is no need for this needless negative comments. Anyone could be in a similar situation at anytime. The driver now has to live with this on his heart and mind so once again watch what you say, Rest in peace to the victim and keep the faith to the driver.
We need a committee to go round our road network to make recommendations on speed limits, road signs, traffic lights, speed cameras and markings, speed bumps railings, cycle lanes, pedestrian walkways and car parks, legislation etc
I can remember a few years ago when that man came to me for a job.. I trained that man and i have never regretted he would come to work at anytime you call him, he wished that there was another day in the week. he would not complain and would go any where you send him… this guy would never pass you straight and he would always ask you if you ok.. I saw this man about 4am looking out onto the road as he always does and it really broke my hear to hear that sad news..
funny enough, i was in the same with lane early that night and he was somewhat different but looked happy… its really sad.. sometimes we see people and share a joke or a laugh but dont really know whats gona happen next so lets just pray for him and my alie rest in peace…..
Another road accident!!!
I would like to call for the establishment of Road Safety pressure group to lobby for the upgrading of Dominica’s road network and to raise driver and pedestrian use of our roads.
My condolences to the family of Samuel Alie
If im correct there was an accident there the same day or the day before. Someone seem to have rearend another. Is a curse that there and careless drivers making the situation worst
Ah ah ah alas, I cannot believe my friend died in that way. Up to now I am still in shock. Blanc was such a friendly person,I will surely miss him.R.I.P my friend.

R.I.P was a friendly man
Right now we have lost a friend and brother, my heart is aching much less for his mom and dad and you all stupid people want to blame him for going to work, the driver was wrong did you hear WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD he need to pay for blanc death to the fullest.and peter get a heart you have none!!!!!! RIP BLANC
May his soul rest in perfect peace
these accidents have to be taken very seriously by the Law….a man was killed…was the driver arrested???? this is sooo sad….my heart goes out to the family of the deceased….carelessness
@ speaking logic
The sad part is, if there were no witnesses, the Police may not be able to determine who was right and wrong. According to this article, the driver was on the wrong side of the road. Was the pedestrian walking on the road or on the sidewalk, the side of the road? This has to be determined prior to making a decision and an arrest. I hope that the Police conduct a proper investigation. You know the saying, “Dead men tell no tales.” It is sad he lost his life.
ALAS!!!Poor man….eternal rest granted unto him
Oh man, I know this guy.
So sorry to hear that. I wish his love ones GOD’s guidance through this trying times.
layne hold strong, accidents do happen and if u were on the right side and you were overtaking its the place where evryone overtake, only god knows ur speed limit and what took place.am sory for the loss of the young man and condolence to barry and others. GOD KNOWS BEST AND HE IS THE ONLY JUDGE. LET HIM HAVE HIS WAY
Need to do something about that area
Dominica just backward. Do we even know what traffic lights is??????
Dominica is like the only country in the Caribbean that people don’t wear seat belts when driving!!
Little Tortola, St Martin, TRINIDAD, everywhere!!! THat is the law. Police charging you big money if you don’t have that on!!!
What really wrong with DA nah?????
where I live it have street light seatbelt is a must and every day you hearpeople get hit on crossing line so what that not the proble, the problem people don’t like to take their time to drive, they believe the one infront of them is not briving fast enought so that way there is a lot of accident by dangerious driving
@ Ann
Roseau, the new and old bridge, before and after need street lights. I am wondering when will the government, traffic department ensure that lights are installed in those areas including certain streets in Roseau for also the safety of pedestrians.
for some people it is so easy to play the blame game. DA this and DA that. it is common sense to know that over taking on a street like that is risky. Drivers in DA tend to forget that when they decide to drive on the streets, they have a responsibility to pedestrians. It is the obligation of the drive to be totally aware of his surroundings. No seat belts, or street lights that will stop drivers from taking over recklessly. Drivers in Dominica are very ignorant to their responsibilities and risk that they take when they are driving. Look at the bus drivers It is so sad that Blanc had to go like this. pure negligence. when are we going to learn to grow up?
These days there are too many vehicular accidents in Dominica which lead to injuries and deaths. Is this the price which is paid for new, improved, wide roads and progress in Dominica?
This bothers me and makes me so sad that another life has been lost due to another vehicular accident.
The driver was on the wrong side of the road. What was the matter with you driver?
If the pedestrian was on the side of the road, not on the street, what caused the driver to hit him?
Dominican pedestrians, please exercise safety and walk on the sidewalk. Drivers, please drive on your side of the road and cautiously – do not speed. If this is done, many accidents could be avoided.
The Law will decide. I hope there were authentic witnesses, not only those who were in the vehicle with him, if any.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family. May his soul rest in peace.
the chineses did not build side walk tell that to your govnment pls
Give Layne a break, we all make mistakes!
A family is mourning the loss of their loved one and you have the nerve to add a smiley face at the end of your ridiculous statement ? Today is Samuel’s turn. Tomorrow might just be yours !
He is a foolish person who lacks basic common sense.
why do u think the comment was ridiculous? it is was accident; he did not willfully killed the guy. what you have to ask yourself is y was he on the other side of the street; he could have a valid reason. we are not in any position on judge Layne; it was an accident. we don’t plan mistakes. so yes give him a break. it is hard for the family of alie, but u might be surprise that it may be harder for Layne when he has to replay this in his mind as long as he lives. all we have to do his pray for the family of the deceased and pray for Layne for guidance. Layne what you have to do is go to the family; be there with them and ask for there forgiveness and also ask god for forgiveness.
My prayers are with both parties
you disgust me, would you say the same thing if it was Blanc that killed LAyne?
@ Morehei
Where is your heart? A man was killed; a precious life lost, a family member, a friend and you are saying give the driver a break? He was driving on the wrong side of the road. This is cause for the Police to arrest him and charge him with driving negligently and causing loss of life – for he was driving on the wrong side of the road. Do you note the sense of this? This is a serious matter. You are a heartless person.
You are one sick person. If it were your relative of all what would you state? People as you upset me by what you state.
i cant believe someone would put a smiley face next to a rediculoud statement like tht.. that is just heartless.. i understand that right now the whole nation maybe the world.. those aware of this is pressuring Layne and i cant say they are wrong for doing so.. it could be your father, uncle, or brother and you have the nerve to say something like this.. accidents do happen true but some can be prevented if people drive with more responsibility and regard for others.. and innocent man lost his life and an innocent family have to deal with it.. and maybe the only justice they will get is “accept my sympathy” give jack his jacket.. the driver have to be percicuted for that dominicans too bias if it was a prro maleywey tht was driving he would be up stockfarm.. rip to the man who lost his life and i hope hat his family gets justice..
SHAMEFUL
DNO WOWWWWWWWW WHERE THE DRIVER FACE LET US SEE HIM NAR FOR THE PUBLIC TO HAVE A VIEW
U don’t have facebook ? use ur head
Is that i finding. I saw the driver, mis girlfriend, his child, everything!
most people fb names are not their real names
That stretch of road is often mistaken for the INDY 500 speedway, where is the Traffic Dept, they should be patroling that SPEEDWAY,giving out tickets to those drivers, especially BUS DRIVERS who think that, this newly paved roadway is a SPEEDWAY.Secondly a bystander had the termity to steal the dead man’s cell phone
So I looked up ‘termity’ in the dictionary because I just didn’t know if there was such a word and off course, it doesn’t exist. Did you mean ‘audacity’?
It would seem that people in Dominica have a problem with using full stops and commas.
Lol.. when i saw that word i wondered if it existed, but apparently not.
he means temerity
The word is teremity and is a synonym for audacity..it means excessive boldness.
oops..sorry..correction..the word is spelt “temerity”
You stated – “So I looked up ‘termity’ in the dictionary because I just didn’t know if there was such a word and OFF COURSE, it doesn’t exist.”
“off course”??? That’s supposed to be “of course”.
Kettle, meet pot!!!
temerity
The word is temerity . There is such a word it is just spelt wrongly, and audacity is a synonym of that word.
The word is “temerity” which has the same meaning of audacity
The word is “temerity” which means the same as audacity
@bwa kwaib…leave the person alone
GUESS WHO IS THE IDIOT NOW……. YOU!!!
Why do we always blame the Traffic Department? Drivers are well aware of this thing called “speeding”.
me myself i have no sympathy for people that drink get drunk and get behind the wheel and drive much less to kill a innocent man well the driver have to pay for what he have done already drunk 1 driving on wrong side of road 2 and even maybe still trying to overtake again 3 so dont you think in the mist of all them wrong you will sure to doh something wronger (lol) well now a man is dead your sorry behind was drunk and all you had to do was leave the vehicle where it was and hitch hike a ride home and trust me every body no u u would have gotten a ride so feel sorry for yourself now
WOW! Have you ever heard of ‘full stops and commas’ ? Geezz….
it seems u r the inglish teacher for dno viewers. next u will say i cannot spell inglish.
so bwa kwaieb u that is dno inglish teacher or what? next u will tell me i cannot spell inglish. lol
ok dno inglish teacher. correct me now with my inglish..
my sympathies to the fam. that vehicle musta been outta control from where i saw it ended up..was this man still sleeping or something?
I totally agree. Drunk drivers should pay the price for wreck less driving. The authorities need to move forward on this drinking and driving issue here. Wreckless drivers do not loose their drivers license, do not go to jail….its incredible. So many accidents and the drivers go free. Time to put a stop to this. I hope the driver pays the price for taking this innocent man’s life,
First and foremost, heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased. I pray that the Lord will grant you strength and comfort at this time. It is painful to lose a family member in any way. Just hold on to each other, the memories of who appears to have been a well loved and friendly gentleman.
Second, when I visited Dominica recently, I found that even the bus drivers would have a shot of something while waiting for patrons at the bus stand. Those who would go to the country side had a longer wait and had the opportunity to consume more drinks. In addition, I also noticed that some drivers (bus and private) during the seasons would drive with their drinks in hand and literally “drink and drive”. There were also instances where police officers are drinking with them and make no big deal of them getting behind the wheel and driving unsuspecting individuals to their destinations.
I guess what I am saying is if law enforcement does not uphold it, if it is not legislative in fact, if there is no precedence set, then absolutely nothing that will be done and more lives will be lost.I do hope though that the law or some group, agency or even the family of this young man takes this matter further than his funeral and seek some sort of justice. Not just because they lost a loved one but also because this level and attitude of inconsideration and immaturity needs to stop.
easy to say! but do u have proof of yr accusations? COME ON MAN PEOple IT COULD BE U OR A FAMILLY OR EVEN A FRIEND STOP JUDGING! layne have a death on his account stop adding to his pain! sorry for the man and his familly but find the roots of the problem a then comment!
That particular stretch of Goodwill Road is known as Tamawen, on account of the row of large tamarind tree that once lined the road. Many a life has been lost on Tamawen due to traffic accidents (Possiby the stretch of road in DA where the highest number of fatal traffic accidents have occurred; maybe second to under the Canfeield Cliff up till 1989.. the year when the authorities introduced the NO OVERTAKING Regulations and lanes under the cliff)).
Condolences to the family of Blanc – who I do not know – and to the driver of the vehicle (and his family), all I can say is hold strong, because we talking of manslaughter now.
This officer right now is may goin through a tough time knowing he was wrong and killed someone innocently. R.I.P Blanc your family and the entire community of Boetica will truely miss you. This driver was drunk and didn’t have no right driving yet again overtaking another vehicle. But yet still what can we do or say. It’s the police job not ours
I don’t recall reading anything stating that the driver was drunk. How did you determine that?
His license should be suspended.
That alone… A man life he take dere we. sorry does not cure even if he serve 6 months he deserve to do some time for that one we.
Do not drink and drive. Those of you who think that when you are drunk you drive better that is ridiculous.
Are u saying the driver was drunk??
no where in the story said the driver was drunk. some dominicanas tooo stupid man! shait!
So sad to hear of another senseless death. May the Lord comfort the hearts of the grieving family. My heart also goes out to the driver and his family…only God knows what they are feeling at this moment. I read the comments of many people slamming drivers and YES! daily I see lots of irresponsibility on the part of drivers and wonder what will it take to get through to us that this reckless disrespect for other drivers and pedestrians must STOP. This is not the case in this incident but pedestrians also need to exercise caution. They step into the road in areas that are so busy sometimes without looking up or looking down, yet still, the drivers always takes the blame. So, both pedestrians and drivers need to be more considerate of each other because most times innocent people are the ones who lose their lives. Again sympathies to the families involved.
Jail him!!!
some people so stupid jail him !!! why ? u could be in this qituation but i guess u are a typical dominican so that’s why u so damn stupid , its very hard to hear things like dat and when stupid people come out and say jail him just like that, why don’t u all just shut up deepest condolences to the family and friends of the dead. Can’t say nothing more i just wish that accident never happen but i guess it’s something which might teach certain dominican to take their time on the road it’s to small for overtaking
Safety is not a priority in Dominica. We seem to prefer attepting to cure than to prevent. What we need to realize is that the time, and money spent into prevention at all levels in this country , is going to save us alot in the long run.
Personal safety is important, and hence the state should enforce it. The state will spend less in the long run.
Let us commence with the traffic department:
wearing of seat belts
wearing of helmets
speed limits
maximum of 48 hours parking on public road for any wreck/derilict vehicle
no littering
and strict penalty any time the laws are broken
My sincerest condolences to the family of the man killed.
Are there any laws and regulations regarding driving drunk? If so, like the noise pollution laws, they are unenforced.
what a sad and unfortunate accident..
I would like to ask a foolish question, are there any lines on the roads? I mean lines that seperate the left and right sides of the lanes?
Believe it or not, there is a wide median separating the two lanes. The streetlights are erected on that median. Best the driver had ram himself into a streetlight – that would be easier to understand.
no you have something better…you have a big pavement
In addition there used to be markings for the waiting lane (when turning off the highway or onto the highway) but since the new paving it has not been restored. Also the median is the same level with the road, It was previously elevated however due to new road works (Which to this day I still don’t understand for that particular stretch) the road was beefed up to meet its level.
Why do people like u believe , we are so backward in Dominica ?
R.I.P Blah
Our Family is Holding strong.
No one wants to lose a relative in such a tragic way. Its even worse when you consider that this could be avoided if the driver was on the correct side of the road. But we cannot change the hands of time. We can move on by forgiving the person who hit and killed him. We cannot promise that we wont seek compensation for our loss and pain. But those of use who are Christians are quite aware that this man is alive, unlike Blah, that he needs forgiveness and he needs to move on with his life. I feel for him. Knowing Christ makes a difference so I hope he finds comfort in Christ.
Driver, I am only one family member. I forgive you and you can be assured that I will encourage the others to forgive you too.
Meanwhile He was 40 and not 26 yrs. I have no idea where they got that 26 from.
Is anyone sympathiesing with the driver? They may charge him…if he was on the wrong side of the road. I sympathize with him also. He never anticipated such thing!
RIP Alie.
That’s the whole point about driving carefully, so you can react if something happens that you don’t anticipate!
well he should never have been driving on the wrong side of the road. We adults must think before we act
@ Observation
You should comprehend that a loss of life occurred through his negligence. No one can bring back this precious life. Therefore, at this point, it is impossible for anyone to have consideration for the driver who was driving on the wrong side of the road, probably intoxicated or that he thought the road belonged to him and since it was early in the morning.
Let the family go through their grieving process. After all is said and done, maybe they could forgive him or others could forgive him.
First of all, he must extend his sincere apology to the family. It is left to them to forgive him. I reiterate that a family member died due to driver negligence. For the time being expect no more from anyone.
I do not know the departed. Even from afar it upsets me that a life is lost due to driver negligence. Too much of this is occurring, not only in DA but where I reside in Toronto and elsewhere, other countries of the world. Consider the grief, hardship of those who are left behind. If he has children, they are without a father. Therefore have a heart for the departed and the grieving relatives. You extend your sympathy to them. This is first and foremost.
driver didnt fall asleep…there is one important factor which is missing….without this all fault is on the driver…no one can dispute that…but the young man said a vehicle made a sudden stop either to allow someone or vehicle to cut across…his first reflex was to sway away to avoid the vehicle…which would place his either in lamp pole or on the right lane where he ended up…he then hit something which he later realised with a person….
while dominicans are ooohhhh so quick to judge….every driver can have a day like this…no one sets out to go driving to try to kill someone…but accidents do happen…heart felt sadness goes out to “BLANC” you kept everyone smilling….also to the driver lyn royer….while you must accept responsibility…i urge you to keep your sanity….i saw your condition on the scene and you need to do some praying young lad.
Agree fully!!!!! People don’t ask they simply make statement – “he was drunk” etc. Facts at times like this answer the questions of doubt.
I sympathize with the family of Mr. Alie as no one was expecting such news on a Saturday morning about their beloved. I also sympathize with the family of Layne, for they too did not anticipate such a dreadful position in their lives.
May both families be able to find the strength to go through this ordeal.
@ Massive
The Police should have given the driver breathalyzer test. Drivers must be cautious, whether they are stopping or driving. If the driver ahead made a sudden stop, then that driver should be held accountable for the accident and his death. On the other hand, the driver who killed him should have kept a certain pace behind that driver so as to avoid a collision and killing the man. He is deprived of his life. Is this not a serious matter to you? They drive too fast. There is no excuse.
THIS GETS ME ANGRY! WHEN ARE DA DRIVERS EVER GOING TO LEARN TO DRIVE SAFELY? IN RECENT MONTHS MANY ACCIDENTS OCCURRED AND DEATH ENSUED.
Let us make no excuses for reckless drivers. Know that God is annoyed/angry with reckless drivers who injure, maim and kill people. They will be answerable to God for they have taken a life. It isn’t as if the man walked in front of their vehicle. Do not think that they will escape God’s just recompense as they deserve. DRIVE SAFELY, PERIOD!!! Some of them should not have been given a driving license; they should not be driving.
This must be a difficult time for the family and friends of both the driver and victim. May God be with and console all involved. Hope the facts that emerge help all concerned to come to terms with the consequences of this accident. If poor lighting played a role in this unfortunate situation, then the authorities need to address this also. Let us all work to make life easier and better for others by the right actions we take everyday.
R.I.P. BLANC
Wah, am shocked, can’t believe it!!! This man was in the Roseau market Friday night and I bought him a jelly coconut. Saw me purchasing coconut water and approached me for a jelly. Wah am still shocked!! Rest in peace my brother. Rest in Peace.
so he was a beggar then?
AMEN
charge him for causing death by dangerous driving.throw him in jail.they too wortlis.
thank god u not the judge
Driving on the wrong side of the road at that time in the morning??
Maybe thought he was in U.S.A.? In any case, police should check for substance abuse. Such a pity we had to lose anoher young life.
in the us we have traffic lights and cameras to make sure you do not run those stops
Sympathies to the family i am very sorry about my dear friend may his soul rest in
peace may the
father watch over him while he sleep.
P.S This sport is a very dangerous sport i was on holiday in Dominica in july 2012 and i almost got kill right on this sport. May he R.I.p This sport need a over head over bridge.
sport, or spot???
Sorry
RIP to the young man and my deepest condolences to his family . What bugs me is how long the young’s man body was lying in the road before Paramedics or police showed up at the scene , after the body laid there for more than 45 mins it was moved before the police got there , How they carry out investigations in Dominica is just very sad !!
that road there have a big problem it should be a one way lane with speed limit be cuz there is some thing that takes your attention away from you. so sad, be strong families
My greatest concern for this area is that the road should never have been raised to the level of the median. As a driver, I have seen it time and time again where drivers heading in a northerly direction from Ma Boyd’s bar just turn right and head into a southerly direction, all because the median is the same height as the road.
RIP Alie and sincerest condolescences to the family of Alie in Boetica. Shocking as this may be, rest in the hands of the Almighty. He understands your pain and will see you through.
Drivin on the wrong side of the road ….. I got two solution in my head either the man was high like a month fo and just damn careless and childish … Did not know him but R.I.P
My sympathies goes out to the youngs man family. HOWEVER I must say as a driver I noticed that in that area by the port, it’s very easy to hit a pedestrian at nights. I am not sure what happened in this case here, but more street lights needs to be placed in dark areas such as this one. I passed this area just Friday night and if another vehicle didn’t give a reflection of the pedestrian I could be on dno too. A brighter light or some sort of traffic sign should be placed there.
And i must say Dominicans believe because the pedestrian crossing line is there, they can cross at anytime (night or day). But that’s wrong you and the driver need to have some sort of eye contact then pass. It’s time they put some more street lights in that area or more people will get killed.
You are correct. The items in the middle cast shadows and you not sure if is someone crossing or something. Thats why i slow down when approaching that area.
So true about the lamp posts showing as persons at night. Maybe the lights, though solar could be brighter. That is not to say that was the case in the circumstance of Alie’s death. Whatever the reason , there is sorrow on both sides. I sympathise with both families.By the way there is supposed to be a pedestrian crossing in fron of Public Works. Are we going to wait for an accident in order to take action. (A concerned Dominican)
6:am is broad daylight
So many traffic accidents! What is the traffic department doing. Come on, can’t we see that the department must get more proactive and put measures example traffic lights in those dangerous areas
“Let there be change and let it begin with me.” Maybe if we as drivers drive with a little more caution, many of the traffic accidents could be averted.
Let’s look at an example: does it have to take the traffic department to tell a driver to drive on his/her side of the road? or does the traffic department have to tell a driver to reduce the driving speed when driving through a village/residential area? Hmmm
Traffic light is not the issue in this case when someone chooses to drive on the opposite side of the road which is meant for another direction traffic that is just negligence. i was driving down one evening from roseau and a car took the other lane which is meant for vehicles coming up into roseau.
He was driving on the WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. Are you suggesting that this was due to lack of traffic lights on the road?
HE AVOID AN INCIDENT AND END UP IN ANOTHER GET THE FACTS
i feel so sad that this young man died after leaving work,i don’t know the circumstances of the accident but it must have been a rough night working and probably was a bit disoriented to,the driver i could imagine how he wished he was not alive to face the pain of killing another human being, but my encouragement to the driver and family members, ask the Lord for grace during this, and pray that this tragic moment bind them together,i know it’s hard, but with God all things are possible.
The security guard was taking over from the night shift.
@ Peter, you didn’t read the news? driving on the wrong side of the road…I want him charge with murder!
If the driver wasn’t drunk and didn’t overtake and go on the wrong lane, probably Alie would have been alive today. That said, my sympathies go out to Alie’s family and I pray that the driver and his family will have peace and strength.
He wasn’t disoriented, don’t even start with that defense. He was murdered on the sidewalk by a reckless custom officer under the influence!
Just because we’re a poor family keep you all speculation to yourself.
man driving on wrong side of the road??!!! look wha happen now…..an innocent person killed!!!!
please, traffic dept. place a round a bout at public works intersection and at DBMC intersection and then seal off thta pavement between the lanes. im sure we will reduce accidents in the area. Poor design of road by engineers.
Agreed! Poor road design on the DBMC and PWD stretch of road. Never understood why it was done in the first place, makes absolutely no sense, making the area accident prone. But alas…our so called experts dont listen, do they?
Nothing to do with poor road design my friend. Is poor driving and poor vehicle maintenance all the time. Driving instruction and getting licence in Dominica is a joke. How many instructors qualified ? How many of the “lesson” vehicles have dual controls? How many of these vehicles are in sound condition? Is there even a standard test and how qualified and independent are the examiners? Do we test drivers for eyesight for example. I’m sure there are plenty that can not see properly and are a hazard on the road.
dat can surely help
As usual duminicans blame everything on the wrong things that’s why nothing gets taken care of in Dominica. Nothing wrong with the roads. No roundabouts or street lights like you’ll suggesting will stop these accidents. The wreckless driving especially in the wrong places is what is causing the accidents. So everyone look in the mirror and make the change withing yourself
Give me a break! Necessary measures being in place is no guarantee of 100% success but we cannot deny that mishaps will be greatly reducd since persons will naturally be more recignisant. I very much doubt some will overtake or drive on the wrong side of the road knowing that lights are ahead. With these in place niw, we can really sanction the law breakers. And you are right, for a better society we indeed need to look at ourselves…think right!
“wreckless” driving would be very nice. We would not have any accidents in that case (…did’t you mean “reckless”?).
no pic name sounds familiar btut i need a face to go with i
More speed-bumps on the roads…only way to really prevent fast driving. And, by the way, was the driver drunk for him to be driving on the wrong side of the road?
Was the driver the customs officer Lyn Royer. O my God he is a cool guy
Need speed limits, better monitoring of drivers and signage. Drivers in Dominica just drive and don’t pay attention to where they pass or how fast they drive.
What does that have to do with it ?
“He is a cool Guy”
He killed someone and he was going down the wrong side of the road !
“That is not cool”
Layne
Cool guy? De man was driving on the wrong side of the road and kill de man and you talking foolishness about cool guy? If he don’t spend sometime up in Stocky well now I give up on the judicial system in DA….if the were here in the US, Canada or England he not walking the streets I can assure you of that. To the family of Samuel Alie, I sorry for your loss…..I lost a good friend of mine in that same area because some idiot Carlson thought he was on the INDY 500 race track run him over by the side of the road….
yes he is a cool boy
he needs support too…..
So sad to loose you through the recklessnes of a careless driver.I am asking the traffic department to erect a 20 MPH speed limit from the fond cole junction close to the bus stop to the Bridge because chauffers just don’t care is not the road that causing accident is careless driving.our drivers must drive with more care than that wheare somebody going at top speed entering the City.the road does not belong to you alone. Please drive more carefully and save lives, not destroy it.a nother young man gone my co worker.we are very sad and worried about don’t care chauffers,on the wrong side of the road. That is to close to the City to drive so fast others must take warning because there are always people crossing to the restaurants on the other side.
That speed limit is already posted. as is a regular here, we do not follow the rules. We think they dont apply to us.
r.I.P MY BOY
”Blanc” as u was known by all was a very jovial person always the one to shout your name where ever he meeet u.rest in perfect peace. In the sweet by by we shall meet on that beautiful shore, in the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore.
rest in peace
everything is politics your (J.A) A2Z inc
No excuse for that driver if he was driving on the wrong side
Drivers be more careful on the road the life that
you save might mbe yours. My heartfelt sympathy
for the family of the deceased thats so sad.
May he rest in peace.
So sori hear just yesterday u and I walk together now I hearing u are dead RIP my frnd
Sad to hear that. RIP son. May family and friends find strength in the Lord Jesus as they try to cope with this one. My heart also goes out to the family, friends, and the driver. I know it’s a very sad time for all and no one will have more night meres than the driver, Be strong as well!
I know it was said that the driver was driving on the wrong side of the road; but I am wondering if he was: 1. drunk 2. fell asleep 3. In an effort to avoid hitting the young man 4.Was he visiting from the US, Guada, or some other country where they drive on the right side? Very sad though since it was not intentional.
RIP alie . So sad a good friend and pass coworker . May ur soul rest in peace .
R i p Alie u will be sadly miss at the Roseau Market
Maybe the Govt should consider some speed bumps.
or have some cops to monitor the drivers. Few lives have been lost there it is neccessary to do something
Speed bumps for what cant u read or do u understand what u read: The driver driving on the wrong side of the road.
Does this place have speed pumps.
You cant really blame the driver here. If you as a pedestrian see lights coming towards you, you MOVE out of the way. Its hard for a driver to see someone dressed all in black, given that he was a security guard.
are u drunk urself, the driver was driving on the WRONG SIDE of the road. didnt u read that. How can it not be the fault of the driver. What does the vehicle have headlights for
It’s the pedestrian’s fault for getting killed by an idiot driving on the wrong side? Shame on you and grow a heart!
Hello the driver was on the wrong side if the road!!!!!
Did i hear you corectly…? Cant blame the driver?? He was on the wrong side of the road!!! What part of that didn’t you get??
cant blame the driver ? u didnt read he was on the wrong side of the road ? stupse….
He is a kool guy. but kool and not wise doesnt make him that too kool..he drank too much, i mean he is kool but we to be careful, i do feel for him and for the family who lost a love one.. we tend to focus too much on just acting and not thinking of the circumstances and that is a very big issue in reality…lyn thats a lesson that you learnt a lesson…sorry dude..remeber what happen on the market on that same night? All these were signs, you shouod have just gone home and shouldnt come bck to town..only if the worl could talk eh!!
This is one of the most stupid comments I have ever read on DNO. You are blaming the pedestrian?? Was he jaywalking? Shouldn’t drivers, at the very least, drive on the right side of the road? Shouldn’t the driver be cognizant of the fact that there are pedestrians on the road?
You can’t blame the driver? There is no excuse for a driver being on the wrong side of the road…
‘The Guy Change’ u are an a**, the man hit him on the wrong side of the road what does it matter what color clothes he had on, he must have looked in the direction that vehicles are suppose to come from then crossed, how would he have known some idiot would be driving on the wrong side of the road, and from what i understood racing too. Customs or not he needs to be dealt with for his gross recklessness, resulting in the death of a young man, absolutely no excuse and the law should not be sympathetic in dispensing justice
“Police report that Alie was struck by a vehicle driven by Lyn Royer of Massacre, who was driving on the wrong side of the road.”
This quote clearly shows that u did not read before posting that retarded comment. You are just another ignorant fool that blindly defends wrong doers just so u can have something to say. U disgust me.
you make no sense my boy.A road with two lanes separated with a concrete pavement, still with poles in between. one side for north and one for south.if you have to cross a road like that , wont you look out for where the vehicle suppose to come from? yes he may see the light for true, but how would he know the light was coming up on that lane when he is watching the opposite way where tht vehicle suppose to come from. (think before you speak) tht is just common sense.
I have recently returned to Dominica and, it sickens me to the stomach how a lot of our drivers thick this is a game, (I mean the privilage to drive on the road). Well, I am asking for the police assistance and this is a plea to the Police Commisioner a man I played cricket with to have his men take action to protect the citizens of our beautiful country against the use of vehicles as weapons to inflict suffering on pedestrians. My writing today is straight and direct because I need the police to act against what I see is a dangerous patern in Dominica. Too many drivers drink excessively and drive. I mean what in the world was this man thinking to be on the North Bound Side when he should have been on the South Bound Side. I am not happy because as we say in local palance after 9 nights the dead is forgotten and I do not want us as a people to forget today is Alie, but tomorrow it can be anyone of us. In fact the police needs to have certain areas with traffic police ticketting drivers for reckless driving. I was struck today by someone asking for sleeping police in the area when clearly even government can benefit from this reckless driving from the ticket revenue as oppossed to the wear and tear on vehicles. Let us come together and lobby the government as citizens against reckless drivers endangering our lives as we go through our daily routine and consequently have safe and respectful drivers. How many more people need to die in this painful way for us to take action. It is everyone business so let us act today.
Time to act,, what did yu say der nuh?
We need not call on the commissioner of police, but on the minister of national security to help us save lives in this country. It is high time we implement field sobriety test for all drivers involve in motor vehicle accidents. It is more than time to double the number of patrol cars and officers throughout the country. Finally please establish a traffic court dedicated soley to dealing with traffic accidents and other traffic related matters.Oh by the way please increase the fine for all traffic violations by 100% and make it mandatory for anyone causing death by dangerous driving to spend a term of not less than 10 years and not more than 15 years behind bars at the state prison with hard labour too.
Rest in peace Blanc. So sorry you had to leave in this way. Hold strong Ma Odoo. God will give us strength during this time.
countless times i have suggested implementing speed humps along that road in order to reduce the speed of the motor vehicles. they could do that for the school zones, why not there especially with the port nearby
this is sad indeed
Stop with that slave mentality. You want speed bump every 5 meters? You never see man overtake you on the other side of the speedbump that have pedestrian crossing too? Drivers must follow the driving laws, no crossing solid lines, follow posted speed limits, and drive on the correct side of the road, do not drive while intoxicated, nor under the influence of drugs. Keep ourselves in check for the safety of ourselves and the benefit of other drivers and pedestrians. We shouldn’t have people whipping us to do what we know we have to do.
Please correct name of the individual driving the vehicle from Lyn to Layne. Thank you
this man is in his late 30 to early fortys. my sythpathy. was the driver asleep……………….
Boy, 2012 take people life and have plenty accidents… Just go on DNO and separate the category to accidents and start from January to now and make it worst the year still not yet ready to finish. We looking at a all time high in Freak accidents resulting in death and of course don’t even need to get started of the vehicle accidents.. some lucky to get out alive. TAKE YOUR TIME PEOPLE before you end up on that loonngg liisstt!
r.i.p blanc surly will b miss
security is not a priority in Dominica and unless it becomes a priority thoes things that can be prevented will continue.
The Security business becoming a priority in DA has nothing to do with drivers driving on the wrong side of the road.
the driver of the vehicle should be placed in prison………….. they need to learn to drive properly….sad news for the family of this person.
So sad..condolences to the family of the decease…what the Gov’t needs to do is build pedestrian bridges over the roads like in St. Lucia and they should of also reconstruct the roads like St.Lucia’s as well..place a concrete rail in the middle of the two lanes and alot of these accidents would be prevented..
That’s a thought…
wonder wat he was doin drivin on d wrong side of the road! these drivers act like the road is theirs. this accident couldve been avoided. u were jus careless layne nd i do hope u pay for what u did
oh boy another death on that road, lord have mercy on Dominica, my boy allie i gonna miss u so much and so are my co workers u were love by everyone at work RIP MY BOY SOMEBODY TO TO PAY FOR THAT,
We want highways to we can go faster otherwise we think that we are under developed.
I say development brings hardship and that’s what we experience day by day.
It is time for the authorities to at least put SPEED BUMPS to slow down the speedsters. Traffic lights are also an option, but chances are that some drivers will want to drive through the lights.
I just had to say are pray for the familys of this young people lord help my family and friends in Dominica to be on the safe side when driving /riding or walking on our roads its time the police come out and dosoming we all got to do what we got to do its for all of us my people i just dont see why this had to be .as i go i want to say one love to all dominicans please lets becarefull in what we do my people
DUI???? If so, charge Royer.
Driving on the WRONG side of the road!?
Lyn was drunk man…R.I.P Alie.
I hope they sue this driver and the Insurer
because she should b on her side.
What is this person’s name?
As much as it’s sad to say, i’m NOT SURPRISED…I passed the man on the road moments before he was hit and I can tell you. I didnt see him on the side of the road on the corner until he was in my face. I even mentioned to myself omg what if i had hit that man. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WEARING luminous work clothes to be better seen while working on the road. I DO NOT blame the driver!
In other words you are saying that it is ok to drive on the wrong side of the road…right?
Excuse you….? You do not blame the driver??? He was on the wrong side of the road!!! Hello!!
TheGuy, i want you to shut your damn mouth. you are makind no sense. whether the man was wering black yellow pink red or blue, that is no excuse for someone to clean him off the road. as far as i am concerned he was not walking in the middle of the road. You are just as bad as the driver that killed him. all you need glasses and slow down on the road. i think people should start walking in the middle of the road so they definitely can be seen. The man finish working, why would he be wearing luminous clothing on the road to go home. is a costume then. Man doh make me vex. Blanc was a nice man and he didnt deserve this.
You lieing dry my brother
I think saying that to the court will be alot beter than commenting it here~!!!
There is a deeper spiritual issue with the number of fatal accidents on that general stretch of road. The many innocent Africans (Maroons) who were slaughtered and exposed in that general area from Fond Cole to DBMC building. Ask Dr. Honychurch, he shall confirm this. We need to appease the souls of the faithful who have fallen in the series of tragic moments. Until such times, the accidents will continue and innocent souls will be snatched up as embodiment of the spirits who need to rest.
May the good spirits of the ancestors be pleased with my deliberations.
Peace
Food for thought…
This is superstitious rubbish. The dead cannot do anything! I bet if one looks into the causes of deaths on this stretch it all has to do with irresponsible driving pure and simple.
rip to the man
I hope this incident will open the eye of the authorities in Dominica. We have too many reckless drivers in Dominica. why would any body take over in that spot. What can be so important that a driver think that it is okay to take over there to get to whereever he needs to go. We need to have trafic controller positioned in certain places in DA. Trafic lights and strongerpenalties for that kind of behavior. I hope they lock that bastard up for a very, very long time.
ppl lets gave each other love every day an most of all lets put god first in all tings let make it rite now dnt say am young an will have time in death has no age now is the time 2 show love
R.I. P cuz, I will truely miss you. You had so much life ahead of you for someone to just take it away like that. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless your soul as you join the him in heaven. i love you.
When are they going to start to implement speeding tickets? Come on.. with new roads there has to be a plan in place to control these speeders. I have seen people speeding by with the police standing there doing nothing. Unbelievable!!
sigh some kinda bad news to wake up to this morning…. RIP BLANC..
one site have hit by an SUV, allu have hit by motorcycle…which is it?
RIP Blanc
which blanc???? alie!!?????????????????????????????
I hear my Grand mother asking when will the madness stop! RIP and to the family use that as a tool to demand that “O” tolerance measures are put in place EG; Speed tracking device, Red light cameras, speed pumps Day and night unmarked police patrols and the list goes on. We are Reactive. But some day some how and some body needs to stop the madness.
.
RIP Alie, the PWC family will miss you! So sad that you are gone but you won’t be forgotten.
RIP cousin Blanc, too young too soon
We stray so much from a topic. Tnere was an accident and a man died. The person who caused the accident. The speed limit in a communty/village/town is 20mph. The speed limit on a highway is 40mph. We want to drive at top speed, and then blame everybody else for the accident. Well we need to obey the rules of the road.
Yes… There is a need for police patrols everywhere in Dominica, because we drivers do too much nonsense on the road. Some driver actually cut across an incoming vehicle, and just slow down infront of the vehicle. These things happens like is a game in Dominica. I have travelled to different countries, and people drive to get to where they are going, and they don’t play on the road, but those very same people who travel abroad return to Dominica and form the royal a… on the street. But the will never do that overseas because they kow they will be killed or something.
Stop blaming the government when an accident happens, and OBEY THE TRAFFIC RULES. Use the HORN to warn somebody, not to say hello to your friends. Some drivers in Dominica are too AAOGANT and it is those selfish drivers that cause more accidents. May Jehovah God have mercy on us and save us from these tragedies.
Correction—– there…………arrogant…….
Very well said!!! Trafic laws were not adhered to…thats what caused the accident!
RIP Blanc.
OH NO
the solution is to put roundabouts, failsafe, cheap to make and proven to produce less accidents than traffic lights or cross roads
Who Blanc
Truly sad. Deepest condolences to his family and friends.
R.I.P Blanc… sad news to all. may the family find strength in God…. really sad… pedestrians and drivers plzz be careful out dere
!
R.i.P BLANC
This area has been and continues to be dangerous and our drivers will not slow down and drive with caution. Time for the police to begin road watches and give tickets to dangerous drivers. The road from Fond Cole to Canefield is now a death trap under the cliffs with some of the craziest driving.
Unfortunate incident.
this area is not dangerous . our drivers are too careless and the process of getting a licence is too easy.
I agree with you whole heartedly, it’s not the roads it’s the way one drives.
RIP Blanc this is such careless driving
this young man did not deserve to die like this
i hope this guy is punished to the full extent of the law and this young man family gets some retribution
time for the police to do more traffic policing
i’m a driver and believe me i’m afraid to drive
so much craziness especially under the cliff
We complained so much about the road now we acting like road bookies
To Blanc’s family take courage in the lord
Your nephew will miss you, he know you cared
Say hi to Bernard for us
this place is dangerous.my cousin died there as well
the place is not dangerous. its how they drive makes it look that way
I witness one guy from St Joe died there in the 60’s, he was employed with PWD this was so sad, this area need God’s intervention, too many souls wondering in this area, this area is always a death trap
Time for traffic lights, labour just wanna see more red.
Next level should be coming out of the dark ages.
Check me for proper solar traffic lighting system controlled from police headquarters.
Plus there was an accident there yesterday.
Cmom Dominica open your mouth and say your own life, I bet this individual wished we had.
I have the solution to traffic problems at lunch time, not to mention the head on collisions under canefield cliff that will arise.
We Dominicans have talented and educated individuals here, don’t send money to another country when it’s here already.
Only a smart financial officer would know that suicide.
Rip to man that lost his life today.
If you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem. Where do you stand?
stupes!!! eny thing to be political. stupess!!!!!!
But, but what is wrong with you people. do you have to involve politics in everything? street lights where? if they put street lights and the place get congested then i’m sure you going to scream politics again. ever stopped and think of WTH the driver was doing there? when the road broke into a one lane a few seconds ago. Dominica drivers playing stunts on the road, switching lanes like mad. we need help in this land, each and every one of us need to inspect our self and stop blaming every body else…, and stop coming on dno and post foolish comments, if you have nothing good a valid to say shut up. there are people reading these pages. if you want to embarrass yourself do so and leave Dominica out.
