UWP, lawyer, pay tribute to deceased attorney

John died in Antigua on Tuesday May 21. 2019

“A proud patriot and servant of the public good, sister, wife, lawyer, friend and quintessential woman of faith.”

This is how political leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton has described attorney, Noreen John who died on Tuesday in Antigua on her way to London to seek medical attention.

John was the declared United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Grand Bay constituency in the next general election.

John’s death came as a shock to many especially those in the legal fraternity in Dominica.

Attorney-at-Law, Joshua Francis who spoke to Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview, described John as a, “remarkable lady, meek, kind, loving selfless, someone who made her mark within the legal fraternity.”

“She was always willing to listen and always willing to assist,” he said. “She was a helpful person, a good listener.”

Francis said John will be missed by the legal fraternity, the Grandbay community, and Dominica by extension.

Francis also mentioned that John was always willing to help young people, people in distress and that she made a contribution to society outside of the legal service.

“May her soul rest in peace and may God bless her family, give them the strength and the courage,” he said.

John, who was recently announced as the United Workers Party candidate for Grand Bay in the upcoming general election, was absent when the UWP presented its full slate of candidates at a public meeting on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard on Sunday May 19, 2019.

UWP leader, Lennox Linton explained her absence by disclosing that she had some matters to attend to overseas and she was dealing with them.

“We support her, we stand with her,” Linton said. “Remember in all that we promise you we are still not perfect human beings.”

“We are going to get sick at some point in time,” he stated. “We are going to need healthcare.”

He added, “Noreen John just felt out of an abundance of caution and given the state of health in Dominica, to get an opinion outside to what’s going on and to seek her treatment from outside.”

After receiving the news of John’s death, Linton wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday, “We extend our deepest condolences to her husband, her sisters, her brothers, other family members and all those who feel her passing in a special way. May she find fulfillment in the completion of her earthly journey of service and great rejoicing in the embrace of her father in Heaven.”

Meanwhile, UWP President, Isaac Baptiste announced today, that the party was suspending all public engagements
until after the burial “of patriot and sister, Noreen John.”

Baptiste said John was a proud, dedicated, community organizer, youth advocate and attorney at law.

“Team Dominica, UWP, joins the John family, friends, and community residents from Grand Bay, Soufriere and the wider Dominican community in mourning,” Baptiste stated.

I am sick and sick of your pathetic and crazy eulogies whenever somebody passes away, wanting people to cry and feel sorry. When they are alive and around you all give them maypwee and talk ….. Now they pass away they did a mountain of things and recognized all over the world. I must ask Trump and Theresa May if they know Noreen. I must ask Modi in India if he knows Noreen. I must also ask Jacinda of New Zeeland if she knows Noreen andf I might ask Kim Jon UN of North Korea if he knows Noreen. Stop spewing garbage whenever somebody passes away. You all are UWP hypocrites. What case did she try and win that stood out to this very day. None.

The only people who knew this humble classy lady who at an early age was a passionate fighter for human rights who will be happy from ear to ear is Skerritt.
Job well done ..the spirits are working in his favor like it almost did with Dr Christian.
Like it did with the threat of Jail to a real Doctor whose election was stolen from Grand fond and who got a REAL education …not the Bs of DR,,,,DR of a man who never went to the classroom .
for MA….but with a baby degree in psychology …..Dominicans made a pasyshow of themselves over this nonsense whilst skerrit have the audacity to fire The both real doctors Darroux and McIntyre who in safe seats made his bogus Doctorate the joke it is .
To dismiss also the president of the party on Laplaine ..bring in Robert Tonge for Roseau and a lady Blanchard with a suspicious connection ….who was being prepared for Roseau .
Seem the need for nepotism trumps all consideration with the wife of PM changing all the plans .

She was a labourite, who got disenfranchised with this shell of what the real labour party was, as many others have done. Someone who believed in a just society. Any honest citizen should have had by now come to the realization that the path we are heading now is unsustainable. There comes a time when we have to do some introspection and look out for our brothers and sisters because we are all one Dominica. We have to come down on our knees and utter a silent prayer of forgiveness for seeking our greed and selfish desires. Dominica will rise when we humble ourselves. Peace

Noreen will be missed. She was capable of making a difference and our country needs exactly that right now.
RIP and condolences to the family.

Didnt know you. But from all accounts is sounds like you were phenomenal. A mover and a shaker. Had a high level of integrity and stood up for what you believed in. you would have continued to make Dominica proud. may you sleep well.

% politics is in your DNA. As you stated, given the state of healthcare in Dominica….. it would be so genuine if you didn’t include your political biases. Please respect people and not your innuendos for political purposes. May the family find comfort in the Almighty RI P.

At a time when the safe thing to do is to side with the government or appear to be neutral, since government is the only “show in town”, Noreen decided that her love of constituents and Dominicans was more important than personal rise and gain. It’s sad that she was taken so soon before she could realize her higher ambition, she will be missed. Condolences to her family and loved ones and may she never be forgotten whilst she rests in peace.

A friend asked me whether Roosevelt Skeritt will express condolences to the family of Noreen John, I said no. I have followed Skeritt over the years, his dislike for the UWP is so enormous, that it will surpass any interest or love for anyone closely associated with that Party.

I believe she deserves the respect and we should ease up on the campaign. However to suspend everything until after her burial? Knowing Noreen, if she was alive I believe she would tell her beloved party to keep the fire of the campaign burning because Dominica is in serious trouble. I respect my leaders but I don’t think we should ease the pressure for too long. Tomorrow there will be a very important meeting with the election commission and I believe there will be a need for a national outrage after the meeting and as a party we cannot afford to be on the quiet side. Anyways my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. John and although I know it’s a very sad moment for them lets take comfort in the fact that she is now with her maker and her earthly journey is over.

Mrs. Noreen John is resting in the arms of her heavenly father and I pray that as we morn her passing we will remember that she stood up for Dominica and Dominican and she wouldn’t want us to stop fighting for change, she is still part of the process she is with us in spirit, so let us all march on in her honour and get Dominica out of it’s demise because we can do better. Mr.Linton and Team Dominica UWP party we understand and accept your decision to suspend the campaign but I don’t believe she would want that because of the person she was let us not disappoint her.. My condolences to her family and friends and to the village of Grand Bay, also to Team Dominica UWP party.

She was a great listener, a very loving and caring lady. She gave legal advise, listened to me for hours when i was down and said you do not have to pay anything. Your dream of seeing real change in Dominica MUST become reality. People like you deserve a state funeral. May your soul rest in peace.
