A young man in his late teens has succumbed, following an accident which he along with 19 others were involved in recently.
One day before the Dec 8 general election, 19 year old Amed Bruney, along with the 19, were travelling en-route to a Dominica Labour Party (DLP) rally which was taking place in Castle Bruce when the vehicle that he was on, overturned.
“On December 7, 2014 about 4:45 pm along the Fond Melle road leading to Castle Bruce there was a very serious accident involving a Mitsubishi Pick-up PD 403 driven by Ridge Blaize of La Plaine,” Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Assistant Superintendent Claude Weekes said.
“The vehicle overturned on the Fond Melle road where 19 people were injured and were transported to the health center. Thirteen out of the nineteen individuals were referred to the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and a 19 year old received serious injuries he was deemed as being critical.”
Six others were also were also serious injured but were in stable condition and four others were discharged.
According to Weekes, many of the injuries sustained were to the head and there were also broken limbs. He said Bruney was placed in the intensive care unit of the PMH and two days later was air lifted to Martinique where he died on the morning of December 12..
All of the passengers on the vehicle were from Laplaine and they were heading to the Castle Bruce playing field for the Labour Party rally.
Weekes said that police were investigating the matter.
To the family and others please accept my sympathy.
RIP Ahmed! Courage to you parents, family and friends. How 8 wish our medical facilities could deal with a level one trauma that you turned out to be. How I wish that the doctors and nurses had everything that they needed to effectively intervene on your behalf. Perhaps they would not have to put you on a helicopter with a high intra cranial pressure to get you to another country. Just maybe something could have been done To help you at home. HUgs to everyone who are hurt by your untimely departure.
This is nonesense, what is the reason they not posting my comments. I fed up with that, I will stop checking DNO. This is just stupidness. Fly your kite, doh let Dominicans cry tears on DNO
This event happened eight days ago, and I’ve been waiting ever since to hear or see something from any of the media houses. NOTHING!
Shame on ALL of them and Mr. Claude Weeks.
What is it nur? Only political things must get coverage?
please lets forget polotics. many young people injured & young man lost his life. condolence to the family & friends of this young man & also best wishes to all invouled. be stong. my prays are with you all
RIP Amed . You were one of my favorite siblings. I will miss you 😢
Dominicans all you need to grow up and not put politics in everything.God say in everything give thanks ,people it could be worst so thank God is so it happen and stop being foolish
Sorry for the loss of life
A proper hospital with life saving equipment and competent staff would have saved this boys life. HE had a head injury and our hospital has no neurologist neither do they have the equipment to do the scans needed to see exactly what was wrong.
Right is right and wrong is wrong. A proper hospital would have saved this boys life.
Sad
I agree with you about the neurologist but we actually do have CT scans which show the extent of the injury, Do your research first.
All you need to get all you story straight there was not 19 people on the van.three stepped put. And to people like casse and the others who constantly write nonesenxe I take offense. Typical stupid Dominican always see negative. Leave Amed rest in heavenly peace and leave the others recover. Yes labour will pay for all expenses. Special thanks to our parl rep . Peter Saint Jean. To Justina Charles. To Dr.Darroux. To the health personnel and the ambulance team. Let God be judge and per adventure it was a sacrifice I will never feel sorry for even the obeah man or the witches involved
We need better health care in Dominica. Secondly something need to be done about those loaded vehicles, I am all about car pooling but, I saw people sitting on the Door of a jeep. Two people outside a sky roof. Those things are not safe. I know everybody excited but…
My Sincere condolences to the Bruney family. It hurts my heart to see such young and talented people lose their lives. Only God Knows
to those people that are making all these stupid political comments don’t you all think of the young man’s family? stop being so stupid !
I feel sad that he passed-on from his wounds. What makes it sadder yet is, he was young. God called him soon to prepare him for Heaven. He will surely not have to go through whatever befalls people and the earth in the future. God has saved him from that. Let this be a form of consolation.
My deepest sympathy to his family. Be strong in the Lord and be comforted by His Holy Spirit that surrounds you especially in your time grief.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen!
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!
i feel for his parents since this is the second child they have lost.
May his soul rest in eternal peace
DNO Admin, it would be nice if you could crop the picture to remove the beer bottle and the “hand gesture.” A pictures is worth a thousand words. We don’t want to send the wrong image. Thanks.
It is so sad that this tragedy occurred. Why was an open vehicle carrying so many persons? Isn’t the law at work on times like this? I saw loaded buses with the passenger door opened, also someone standing on the step outside the closed door of a double-cab truck. So many crazy things happened that day. It is true that we have to take responsibility for ourselves, but sometimes we need the law to straighten up the law-breakers. Maybe the policemen were tired, since there was no off-duty for them during that time. God help us all. My sympathies to the bereaved.
It was sheer negligence that the bus was overloaded with passengers and the door was opened. These are invitations for a disaster, should there be an accident. This occurred and sadly so. Unfortunately, the police cannot be everywhere at the same time.
On account of this accident, DLP lost a few votes. Thank God they won the election.
I do agree that the road regulations must be stringent. People’s precious lives are at stake. Drivers must always be careful and be on the alert. When are they ever going to learn to drive cautiously, patiently and keep within the speed limit? No exception in Canada. Many people, drivers, passengers and pedestrians die on the roads, most of them through negligence and inconsideration for others.
It is beyond my comprehension that drivers are aware that accidents occur and some very bad ones and fatal ones yet some are still impatient on the road, driving recklessly, exceeding the speed limit, trying to overtake when the coast may not be clear, not knowing that another vehicle may be approaching around the corner and also not allowing pedestrians to cross to be given the right of way when they have the right of way. What else can be done to make drivers even more aware of their obligations on the roads?
I am sad to learn this. My condolences to the family.
People smart up. Why do you have to put your lives at risk for politicians. They are all alive now but this young boy has lost his life. This stupid kind of campaigning needs to stop. What needs to happen is to Educate the people.
you all need to stop putting politicians before God.
Now Peter Pepper ok and this poor boy lost his life.
Give your life to something meaningful, not this nonsense.
J hope they take full responsibility. A perfect example of lawlessness in Dominica. So many people should never be on that vehicle. People are not cargo.
In case you haven’t noticed the only traffic or vehicle concerns that the police respond to are traffic accidents. The enforcement of traffic violations is virtually non-existent if one even exists concerning people riding in the bed of pick up trucks.
yes..no exhaust monitoring, no seat belt checking…nnuttin
that is why i will never understand some people who comment on dno, where all u going with all u politics.someone lost his life and u talking your about labour party.just now all you will say is skerrit that kill him.grow up idiots
We hope not. If politics is stated within the context, then it is OK. If it is out of context and as a means of criticism, then, it is unacceptable. It is important to differentiate between the two.
The truth always hurts,if the police were doing there jobs this young man would be alive but they are involved in all the corruption, everyone has his or her right to there opinions, put a sock in it Lin.
RIP in peace Ahmed, condolences to his family may the good lord strengthen you in times like this.
sad he had to go like that my deepest condolences to the family. another victim of political demonic sacrifice. take note my people please take note. demonic sacrifice to secure a win at the pole. last time after labour party rally in st Joseph remember that carib guy.

What demonic sacrifice? Are you God? Are you the devil? Accidents happen and will always happen. However, drivers should drive carefully. It has absolutely nothing to do with demonic sacrifice. Your mind is on what it should not be. Cease being judgmental.
are you aware that some years ago some people from the Grand Bay area were traveling to Roseau by bus to attend a non-Catholic religious crusade. No doubt those people were once Catholics. The bus went down into a precipice. Some people landed on trees. Some died; others had broken this and that. I wonder how many escaped that accident? I doubt none. It was a horrible accident. What would you state for that?

As much as you made that inconsiderate statement,
Many accidents occur worldwide. The police investigate them and determine the cause of the accidents. Never will the result of the investigation prove that it is due to what you stated. Be broadminded. Take your mind off evil and evil works.
you can’t be from Vieille Case ,we do not breed fools, there for wheel and come again!!!!
R.I.P..May your family be comforted in their time of loss
R.I.P. This is so sad
, I pray that his family is holding on strong. He was a sweet guy.
Priscilla in Pottersville just like young Bruney from Laplaine died tragically however the campaigns went on and on – whereas I sympathize with both families and the extended families friends and well wishers this may be an opportunity to re examine our methods of doing things in this country; the question is – is there a real need for all this hype and total frenzy around election time? The Gov’t in power has been for 10 to 14th years the oppossing party is trying to get in – isn’t there a more civilize way of measuring and assessing who should be the ones deserving to get in rather than all that sewo here and rally there ! could we have done our campaigning through forums such as debates on radio and TV AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS INSTEAD OF LITERALLY DRAGGING THOUSANDS HERE AND THOUSANDS THERE AT THE MERCY OF OUR MERCIFUL GOD. I say so because when I watch the loaded vans and trucks with human lives pass me by I said LORD AND SAVIOR please do not let anything tragic happen to those innocent people. Things like over crowding our vehicles we as drivers and the traffic police would not allow on normal days were being allowed with impunity. I say thank GOD only two souls were lost. But trust me , if it was not for devine intervention and the merciful GOD that I believe in many more could have perished. And for what? that s the big question; for what?
2 souls were not lost becuz of election, stop being folish
Stupes ! quick to call others foolish but poor you you totally missed the point .
They will give you thumbs down…because you speak the truth and our people are slowly becoming chronic strangers of the truth….
The prime minister only figure that the country outfetted itself after he won the election…if he had to bring in 20 more big names to bazoodeee Dominicans he would….no matter how many died and were nursing injuries. The roads are so narrow and in poor condition, the police should never entertain the idea of motorcade for any of the parties. It just throws the entire country into crisis. Don’t know what would have happened on Sunday if we had a major disaster and had to rush people from the eastern part of the country to Princess Margaret Hospital.
It’s just crazy…..really crazy…
One of the few sane, thoughtful comments so far. I thought the same thing. What if there were a few emergencies? How would the ambulances get through? I suppose no one thought of that. Like I said last week, God alone was watching Dominicans on that road.
You could address this in another article. Your comments are inappropriate. For God’s sake! Not on this article and the length of it which does not pertain to it. It is an accident and an obituary.

Some of you love to criticize and to think you are correct. Ask yourself what is the state of your soul as God sees you? This is what you should be concerned about. Would love to state more.
The level of ignorance is crazy also. The two coincide.
R. I. P young man and may your family feel the presence of God and find comfort in his presence as they journey through this difficult time.
My condolences to the Family or mr.Bruney,Speedy recovery to does who where injuries.
rest in peace my brother
tht is why they had to stay home not go sweo with the dominica labour party
You and those thumbs up are idiots, tradegy accured right in people bed rooms, this is a moment of sympathy not politics.
So answer this…if they were rallying with the uwp what would be your comment??? People need to know when to talk politics and when to let it drop…the family and friends are grieving right now. If you have no words of condolences to offer shut your mouth….
remember you when your family used to visit laplain when we were younger…jeez this is a hard time…sray..your mom…your dad and the rest of the family hold strong…god has a better plan. rip.
Oh my..God guide and protect your children..this is extremely sad and devastating, I didn’t know this young man personally by i cried my eyes out when I heard he passed..Rest in perfect peace young fellow..ur in a better place now
May he rest in peace, our prayers goes out to those who are suffering from their injuries speed recovery to them.
R. I .P you departed from the world god knows best , the lord giveth and he taketh sympathy to the family hold strong.
Sad – Medical care including trauma care needs to improve in Dominica. There are many talented Dominican doctors out there ready to reach out ……Lets save some lives!!
Why did you make such a comment? Did he not get proper care at the hospital?
There are some people who recover from their ailments and accidents.
awww so sorry to hear….may he R.I.P….condolences to the family
So sad. This story brings tears to my eyes.
M a y he rest In Peace, and pray for a speedy recovery to those injured and their family find solace thru thir faith in God, for God is in control even in our sad times.
Sorry to hear that R.I.P. my dear.
Why is a pick-up in the 1st place carrying 19 persons? Were they all protected under the insurance…? No…why do persons risk their lives like this? Now who is responsible and who is going to pay? I am sorry it had to come to this but i hope the traffic laws can be enforced to avoid accidents like these in the future.
Rest in Peace Ahmed.
This is extremely sad news. My sincere condolences to the family of this young Man. My heart goes our to the Member of Parliament who must be absolutely gutted and shattered by this tragedy. The young man lost his life whilst doing something very dear to his heart. His work was not in vain. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Cyrique, do you have to give a political tint to everything? This young man lost his life, regardless of whether he was supporting DLP, UWP or any other party. That is the sad point. You are a real crab brother.
I’m of the opinion that these 19 people did not vote on election day as they were in the hospital, so these lost votes were in the favor of the UWP candidate.
May the family of the decease find solace and may he RIP. I wish the injured in hospital a speedy recovery
There were UWPites on-board the pick-up as well. Stop make assumptions. We all know Dominicans like sewo regardless of who’s hosting it.
He was genuinely performing his civic duty, supporting the Party he loved. It is D/ca nationals’ obligation to do so. It is sad that he got into the accident and passed on. Also sad that others were injured. I hope they will recover in time.
May his soul rest in peace.
you must be a real crab. what you mean it was not in vain?
Is this something he needed to do?
I hope labour party help one of its supporters with the burial. gone so soon. R.I.P darling
Go and help them na!
are u labor
party? stupid
Lol, I saw what you did there, you thought that saying R.I.P would protect you from the thumbs down after that political statement ! You ain’t sleek

RIP….I guess I won’t be meeting you on the step at work anymore. God bless your soul.
poor boy …….anyway his parents just have too be strong in a time like this I wish them luck and may their son rest in peace
