National record holder Addison James is set to kick off Dominica’s athletics endeavors tonight at the 2025 Pan-American Junior Games. He will participate in the men’s javelin throw at 6:10 PM local time.
Despite being the youngest competitor in the event, a Dominica Olympic Committee release shared that Addison expressed confidence in his training and capabilities. He aims to surpass his personal best and establish a new national record during tonight’s competition.
Addison currently owns the national record with a throw of 67.48 meters, achieved at the 2025 CARIFTA Games. He aspires to reach the 70-meter mark at the PanAm Junior Championships, says the DOC.
DOC also reported that athletics coach Joel Hamilton conveyed his belief in the potential of Dominica’s athletes. He stated that the team has been diligently training under their personal coaches, and he is optimistic that their dedicated preparations will yield outstanding results.
On Thursday, August 21st, Addison will be joined by Treneese Hamilton, who will compete in the Women’s Shot Put.
The athletics events are taking place at The Paraguayan Olympic Committee-Olympic Park in Asuncion.
Fans can watch the competition live on the official PanAm Sports YouTube channel and website. Updates regarding Team Dominica are available on the Dominica Olympic Committee’s Facebook page.
Dominica has very talented athletes. Sadly, natural talent and ability alone would not take you to the top. There is a need for adequate facilities to train, professional coaching, correct dieting and more exposure to outside competition. Iron sharpens iron.
Hope that the athletes will bring back some hardware to Dominica. Even if they don’t the exposure and experience gained is beneficial.
