Dr. Luis Barcos, Regional Representative of the Americas for the OIE (World Animal Health Organization), is on a Caribbean Tour of Non Members of the OIE.
He is scheduled to arrive in Dominica on Thursday 7th October and depart on Saturday 9th October, 2010.
While in Dominica, Dr. Barcos will make a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister for Agriculture, and later, make a presentation to Technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture (Livestock, Forestry and Fisheries.)
His presentation will cover:
• The roles and functions of the Veterinary Services in keeping with OIE,
• The history and functions of the OIE in relation to trade in animal, Wild life and Fisheries products,
• And any other information required by the audience regarding the OIE.
On this mission, Dr. Barcos will visit Antigua, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada and Trinidad.
About Dr. Luis Barcos
Dr. Luis Barcos is a Veterinary graduated from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1983.
From 1984 to 1999 he performed activities related to the improvement of the Hereford, Braford and Brahman breeds. He managed 100,000 head of bovine’s cattle within 1,000,000 hectares of different Argentine zones.
In addition he was Executive Secretary of the Argentine Chamber of Insemination and Embryos Transplant and Technical Director of the Artificial Insemination Centre (GENEX S. A.) and Representative of America in the International Embryo Transfer Association (IETS). He has also worked as ad-hoc advisor to the Livestock and Agriculture Commission of the Argentine Parliament.
He was President of the National Service on Quality and Food Safety of Argentina (SENASA) and Delegate from Argentina to the OIE.
He was Secretary of the OIE Regional Commission for the Americas, and member of the OIE Ad-hoc Group on Veterinary Services Quality, and President of the OIE ad-hoc Group on Traceability and Animal Identification. He participated as speaker and assistant of different scientific and technical conferences.
Currently, Dr. Barcos is a farmer and the Regional Representative of the OIE for the Americas.
