In an effort to propel the growth areas identified in the Agriculture sector, the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) has strengthened its monitoring and support system.
Through the system, the status of the growth sectors; classified as banana, non-banana crops and livestock are checked periodically.
The European Union Headquarters has approved the mobilization for BAM Monitoring in an effort to support formulation of guidelines and a strategic plan to engage the private sector and develop Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
In addition, the assignment is also meant to provide assistance to Dominica, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent to define how the BAM will facilitate private sector involvement and investment in agriculture.
Over the last two weeks, several Experts were in Dominica meeting with stakeholders in Agriculture to both evaluate the effectiveness of the support and to assess the impact of the support on the ground. The evaluation comes after completion of the first Programme Estimate of the BAM conducted between July 2013 and July 2014.
Among the stakeholders interviewed were DAPEX, WINCROP, WINFRESH, the Division of Agriculture, AID Bank, NDFD and the Office of the NAO. EU Expert in Agronomy and Agribusiness Paul Jeangille; EU Expert in Institutions, Economy and Irrigation Harm-Jan Raad; and Team Leader and Monitoring Expert Jean Yves Hansart were formed the monitoring contingent.
