Drigo urges constituents to take advantage of opportunities in agriculture

There are lots of advantages
“Take advantage of these (agricultural) programs,” Drigo told his Castle Bruce constituents

Parliamentary Representative for the Castle Bruce Constituency and Minister for Agriculture, Johnson Drigo,  has urged his constituents  to take full advantage of opportunities which are being provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Drigo made the comments at a meeting with his constituents which was held in Castle Bruce last week.

“Castle Bruce stands to benefit heavily from these programs; take advantage of them,”  he said. He  promised,  for the next 5 years, to  work together with everyone in building a better community but “you too must do your part,” he told his audience.

Officials from the ministry of agriculture and the Banana Accompanying Measures (BAM) outlined a number of programs which have been planned by the ministry to “revive and improve agriculture in Castle Bruce and Dominica on a whole.”

These proposed measures include, among others:  work on feeder roads around the island, repair and upgrading of the irrigation systems in Castle Bruce and Calibishie, an agriculture census, entrepreneurship development for young persons to get them involved in agriculture, cocoa and coffee production and the export of mango.

A BAM official spoke about a banana pilot project, where plants brought in from France will be given to farmers . He urged farmers to be ready and willing to do the work .

“ This will require cooperation between farmers and Government,  you must be willing and ready to do the work”, he said. He said he is scheduled  to return to Castle Bruce this week, to begin work in the area.

Constituents  were also told that the Chinese will build a series of greenhouses in Castle Bruce which will be used to provide vegetable seedlings to farmers.

Agriculture Official, Angus McIntyre praised Mr. Drigo for re-energizing the BAM program.  “Since minister Drigo’s involvement as agriculture minister, we have seen a great movement and activity with BAM; before it was a bit sluggish” McIntyre said.

Senator Isaac Baptiste said he was happy about efforts regarding the BAM program and pledged his support . However, he cautioned against political favouritism, which evoked the assurance from the minister that “all farmers will be assisted”.

The meeting, which was also attended by the Village Council chairperson, was the first of Drigo’s planned monthly constituency meetings to consult, discuss and take action, on challenging issues in the constituency and inform constituents of Government’s  plans.

Minister ‘for’ Farming, agriculture do not let the Farmers be Treated, nor feel,or think they had been dealt ‘a bad blow’.Like they are at the lowest end , like they were chosen because of insufficiency or inadequacy. For This Is Not the Case. For not any simple person can do Such hard and Detailed Work Of Farming,Especially With limited assisting Resources and such conditions some may consider as inhumane. In All Of this theFarmers Working Continues to Help Contribute to the Sustaining and Growing Of the Nation.
Minister ‘for’agriculture do not try to give the Farmers a headache. Please Give Them what is Needed and Long over due and They Will Get the Work Done because They Can.After all consider how long their heads have been used as vehicles, donkeys, carriages for Transportation Of Produce over the hills and across the rivers. Give Them Some Breathing space to Let Some Cool,Fresh Wind Pass through, same Will Bring Good Ideas.Being able to Enjoy Family,Vacation and Contributions.

The Land, the people, the Farmers Work and Working For Living!
    Agricultural considered by many.
We Must See , Do and Maintain The Connection For Us To Have All The Above And Move Forward. Therefore minister for agriculture, as mentioned minister for agriculture. To be for agriculture Let Us Look at and Consider Honor and Respect for the Farmers. Let your approach and Communication With the Farmers Reflect This Image. These Farmers have Worked and Many Continue To Work With little support or nor from systems set up to facilitate Much Needed Support. Yet They stuck With the Hard Work Of Farming, Contributing much to the Country in “Children Of The Soil”: Prophets,Parents, Pastors, Good Health Care Workers, Lawyers, Teachers, Accountants, Bus Drivers, Sanitary Workers, Children, Consumers and the Cycle Can Continue.
Look at The Farmers Well.Do you not think and Believe They are in Need of more and Should be Given the Same? Strengthen Them for They Need Hope .

I hope that Minister of Agriculture is not just the Minister for the Castle Bruce Constituency. Dominica’s Development has a problem when such initiatives which should be “ministry driven” are “Minister Driven” . Something has definitely gone wrong in the Castle Bruce area when MILLIONS of somebody’s money… I think the EU was invested in that community and all of it have gone to grass…… LET US REINVENT THE WHEEL like Jacks…… with minister playing politics and being in the fore front in his constituency in something that should be driven by field staff and farmers groups. GOOD LUCK to you all…………..

Drigo, where have you been in the pasty 5-10 years.????????
Drigo, Castle Bruce is dead, the system of governance is dead…….development is dead. What happen to the irrigation programme you spoke loudly of in the previous election campaign. It si dead Drigo, dead?
Look at the age of the people in the audience that you are lecturing to? Not even the youth seem present tells the nature of the corrupt government and lack of foresight of this Skerrit led DLP government that you unfortunately found yourself part of.
Give me a break….Drigo wake up please

You see, man like Drigo should be farming. At least grow the food you eat. Lead by example, that is the best way to revive agriculture in your community and in the country at large. Talk without action can only go so far.
