The Dominica Hucksters Association has declared a deficiency in food supply in the country, which it says is hurting the local hucksters.
Cecil Joseph, President of the hucksters association here, says recent drought conditions have affected the supply of root crops and other commodities like citrus, which would normally be available at this time of year.
“We have people who normally at this time would have been handling anything from four or five hundred boxes, some of them have reduced to a maximum of 200 boxes so…the extent [to which hucksters have been affected] is over 50 percent,” Joseph underscored, noting that the dry season had affected all crops.
But Joseph says he’s encouraged by the efforts of some hucksters in light of the food supply shortage.
“We have a number of them who have gone back unto the farm and they are now planting, so that later this year, there will be quite a bit of produce for export,” he said.
