Farmers in the Bellevue Chopin, Calibishie, Castle Bruce and La Plaine areas are about to learn more about Integrated Organic Agriculture for the Tropics.
The subject will be focused on during a series of one-day workshops in these communities from May 8-11.
They are being organized in a collaborative effort between the Dominica Organic Agriculture Movement (DOAM), the Florida Association of Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas, and the Ministry of Agriculture here.
According to the organisers, the courses will provide an overview of organic certification, along with a range of related subject matter.
They’ll also involve practical sessions featuring on-farm exercises, demonstrations and discussions on a farm within the area.
DOAM says the series of workshops fits in with its plans to promote healthy living, sustainable agriculture and food security.
In April the movement was involved in preparing a five year strategic plan for organic agriculture.
We from the kalinago Territory are kinly interested in the programme, but honestly we do not even know who is our agricultural extention officer, how can we get information when and where the workshops are taking place.
Sir/Madam,
