The Dominica Cancer Society (DCS) annual Walk for Cancer Care will be held on Saturday October 5th this year.

This is considered to be the main fundraising event for the DCS this year and will be held under the mantra “I can, I will, walk for cancer.” There will be T-shirts on sale from mid August at the Dominica Cancer Society office in Goodwill.

Yvonne Alexander, President of DCS urged companies to support and buy their shirts in advance and in bulk.

Two of the main goals for the event are to heighten awareness and to raise funds.

“Awareness raising is key to not become prey to the prediction that the number of cancer cases will increase,” said Alexander. She also expressed her gratitude to the public for their continued support over the years.

The Walk was introduced in 2012 and started with proceeds of $50,000. Since then, the DSC has steadily raised between $40,000 and $100,000.

The money is used to pay for the treatment of patients, or to provide financial support to patients.

The public is asked to come out and support.
