Arthur Waldron SDA Academy and Orion Academy will move on to the finals of the inter schools debating competition.
On Wednesday at Fort Young Hotel, four schools took part in the semifinals of the competition. Arthur Waldron took on Saint Mary’s Academy (SMA) in the first debate and Orion Academy took on North East Comprehensive School (NECS) in the second.
The first debate topic was “There should be an elimination of restrictions on hairstyles which exist in schools dress codes”.
Arthur Waldron SDA scored 668 points while SMA gained a total of 646.
Burzha Bertrand and Shereen Carbon represented Arthur Waldron SDA Academy. Bertrand was awarded best speaker.
Ajaniah Casimir and Jahaziel John represented SMA. Casimir claimed the best rebuttal award.
The topic for the second debate was “Social media use is beneficial to the holistic development of high school students”.
Orion Academy scored 678 points and NECS obtained 570 points.
Diamond Daniel of the Orian Academy was named best speaker. Her teammate, Lena Magloire, won the award for best rebuttal.
Tiana Smith and Kyra Parker represented NECS.
The finals will take place on April 5th at Emerald Movies.
