Attorney General calls on legal practitioners to have greater commitment to clients

Greater commitment to clients is one of the goals that legal practitioners need to fulfill in 2020.

That advice from Attorney General Levi Peter.

He said practitioners can help improve the justice system by reducing delays to court matters and ensuring that the best assistance is given to clients.

“As a member of the Bar Association I would strongly urge legal practitioners to ensure that we come to our matters with the utmost diligence and the utmost professionalism,” he said.

By doing this, the AG believes that it will contribute to increasing the timely disposal of matters and ensuring that matters proceed to the court as expeditiously as possible.

It would also assist organizers of both the Dominica Bar Association and general legal fraternity to give active consideration to the question of professional development, according to Peter.

He was speaking at the opening of the New Law Year, on Wednesday.

“Attorney General calls on legal practitioners to have greater commitment to clients”. Mr AG, we welcome your observation and comments. But we have serious issues with this immature corrupted Labour government headed by your Prime Minister. Who supervises, advise and monitor Skerrit to what he does with our states funds?
We have serious issues with sale of our passports, who sells and has our passports? We therefore call for an audit and list of those names that we audit our states finances. Skerrit, Where is our money?
We need that same Attorney General to call on this failed Prime Minister to have greater respect, decency and transparency with commitment to people, and respect for those clients (Desperate parents), who are in poverty, jobless and struggling to feed their families who present themselves on the fifth floor to collect cash from so called PM”.
Where`s the Welfare Division professional Team, aware of these families and have worked in partnership with Village…

Sometimes, I wonder if you should be taken seriously with the silly comments you make with your daily dose of ludicrous opinions, no wonder the old saying stands true, empty barrels makes the most noise. You mentioned in previous comments you are working for the Government If you are working for the Government, why are you asking quote, “Who supervises, advise and monitor Skerrit to what he does with our states funds”, wow, are you that ignorant working for the Government and not knowing how the State finances are supervised and spent. Do I have to tell you about the checks and balances put in place to oversee how the State funds are monitored and appropriated. Why don’t you ask your Idol Linton, he occupied one of the most prominent positions within that structure of checks and balances called The Public Accounts Committee, there goes your answer. Tell me, are you going to keep writing such silliness for the next five years.

This Attorley general is not relevant. Nobody respects him and no one listens to him

I beg to differ. To the contrary I believe he is the most relevant AG we’ve had in a long while. He’s actually raised his profile during the past term. I’ve noticed less and less of Tony advocating on behalf of the government and more of him. You and I may not necessarily agree with him but that does not make him irrelevant.

Lets put in perspective this comical (not political) matter coming from the environment of failed Skerrit, out of date AG and this failed corrupted, immature, failed Labour government, lead by this failed immature Skerrit who it is said and spoke about loudly, the abuse of states funds thought the 1. Fertilizer Bobol, that Hon. Linton and his decent UWP Team, 2. The Bin Bobol 3. The Red Clinic Bobol and abuse of our poor people reduced to begging and seeking loyalty, while after 19 year Skerrit in government sill has our people in poverty, while these big boys have their nice big houses, well furnished while our pele have to beg to survive and walk up to the Financial Centre, in desperation for cash for their families to survive on a daily basis. And other scams that went on. Shame on this failed labour Government, Ably supported by AG and other political scouts.

What is it that makes him not relevant, your opinion of him. To suggest no one listens to him is somewhat silly on your part. Didn’t the Courts listen to him ( his argument ) during the election crisis last Month. You not listening to him does not make him not relevant.

When you make such nonsensical statement, do you have evidence to support what you are saying.

don’t you know about election court matters being held in judicial review?
you are ignorant of de issues
this attorney general told us that electoral reform is not costly and too much comess to deal with…..here comes skerrit telling us his government interested in doing electoral reform…..now that throws de AG under de bus because of his earlier statements
skerrit back tracking on de report of de joint mission of Commonwealth, Caricom and OAS……he want reform now……what does de back stabbing AG have to say about dat
and you….what do you have to say about skerrit now proposing to do what he and dis same AG said was close to impossible.

        you want more evidence????

some people don’t love their country Dominica
        they love money instead

When you make general statements, quote “de delays in de court system” does this specify a judicial review regarding elections matter. Your original comment did not make reference to judicial review regarding elections matter. Why can’t you be specific in your communication as to what you want to say. I will also mention to you there are different degrees of judicial reviews regarding election matters, there are cases which have to be expedited, like the matter that occurred in the elections last month, do you believe such matter could be given judicial review, and there can be other matters. Example, the matter of the injunction placed against The Government regarding moves to make legislation for election reform. Your understanding of a matter does not make it what It is, this also applies to your statement quote “skerrit now proposing to do what he and dis same AG said was close to impossible” Your opinion does not change the facts of the matter regarding the Government…

While I do appreciate your concerns and comments, the AG has only commented on the expectation of the lawyers, but Government also has a responsibility, For example, is the registry adequately staffed to handle matter filled, we live in a society that every dispute is taken to court, do we have adequate magistrates and judges. the government promised to pass legislation regarding Lawyers professionalism, and in particular Lawyers responsibility to clients, the high court needs to relocated and build a new court. Yes, it takes a long time to get justice, but Lawyers have no control of the courts.
