Attorney at law, Wayne Norde, has thrown his hat into the political ring and will be taking on the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in the Roseau South constituency as an independent candidate.
Norde held a motorcade in the constituency on Friday night and during a stop, told supporters that he is the ideal man to represent the constituency and his focus is going to be “proper representation.”
“Proper representation in the light of jobs, employment, sports, but we are just touching on the surface here,” he stated. “But we just want Roseau South to know that we are here.”
According to Norde, the whole matter began as what he described as “a joke.”
“This thing, I tell everybody, started as a joke. My very good friend and campaign manager said that, ‘Mr Norde, are you ready go go?’ He posted a picture and the response was explosive and that brought me here today,” he said. “It is God’s will, it is the people’s will that I am here with you today.”
Norde said that all he was asking from the people of Roseau South was a chance.
“My people if you are with me, I am with you,” he remarked. “All I am asking for from Roseau South is a chance. A chance to represent you properly. I am from Kingshill. My roots are in Newtown. I live in Giraudel. I have a lot of friends in Bath Estate. I have acquaintances in Elmshall, Loubiere and all the environs. So I am saying to you that I am the ideal man to represent you because I know you, I know your culture, I know your heart, I know what we live for in Roseau South.”
He assured supporters that he is not affiliated with any political party on the island.
“Wayne Norde is not affiliated with blue or red,” the attorney, who has chosen yellow as his colour, said. “We are planting our own seed and it starts here in Roseau South. All I am asking is for a chance, one chance.”
But Norde’s task is a daunting one. He is taking on the DLP with its deep pockets, well-oiled political machinery and which is oozing with confidence following the announcement of a snap general election by Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit slated for December 6.
The DLP won the constiuency in the 2000, 2005 and 2009 general elections under Ambrose George. However, George was defeated by the United Workers Party’s (UWP) Joshua Francis in the 2014 general election. The constituency went back to the DLP in the 2019 general election when Chekira Lockhart Hypolite defeated Francis with 53.1 percent of the votes.
Critics are already circling and pouncing on the lawyer, who is running for political office for the first time.
“Garcon move there eh,” one person wrote on Facebook. “Whatever money Skerrit give u take it and buy backaneck. As a lawyer u suppose to stand in solidarity against dat illegal snap election, now you ah nothing but a traitor and a big pappy show.”
Another wrote, “Tell Wayne Norde to stick to his practice and develop his political craft. Now is not the time for a baptism by fire.”
All of this appeared far from Norde’s mind during his motorcade on Friday night.
“They say I going to lose my deposit but we are here,” he told his supporters. “Roseau South I love you and I am coming.”

Lockhart is contesting election on a DLP ticket.Norde is on an independent ticket. Why would Skerrit use Norde against Lockhart when Norde will not and cannot win Roseau south and Skerrit know that.If the DLP want they can make Norde leader of the opposition or Attorney General or a Minister of government.That BS about Skerrit using Norde is just that BS.
Use your brain clown. None of the DLP candidates can be called a winner if they have nobody to oppose them. What easier than Skerrit’s operatives to persuade someone, and persuasion have many forms, to stand as an independent so if Wayne would even get one vote this way Skerrit can claim his party won in the constituency.

At a time when our opposition should ALWAYS be ready, and already working in their respective communities, this young aspiring politician is now our new opposition. Those kicked out of the race, and those who feel like their should have contested, should join Mr. Norde and contect as they may be very surprised. Dominicans living in Dominica are fed up. The rest are either receiving regular cool outs and part of the problem or too ignorant to know the ship is sinking. I for sure know we desperately need a change. Businesses closing one after the other. Royal Bank closed, FCIB closed. Unemployment rising. Fuel shortage after fuel shortage, imports increase while exports decrease. CBI being abused and nothing for the regular people to enjoy. Then again dominicans wicked. Crying brokes but all carnival band selling out.. Crying brokes but is they that want to be in VIP.
Mr. Norde, you know better- This has to be a business decision- that’s it.

Not a single person or party should run against Skerrit and his DLP, because in doing so, you all endorse him forcing another election on the country without having kept his promise not to do so without electoral reforms. Now what if at least 20 other men and women who are well known and respected in their respective constituencies took such a principled approach?
All you just sit down there crying and “wringing all you hands”..why not do something impactful?..why not present yourself as a candidate if you’re suitably qualified?..why not encourage someone else if they’re even better qualified?..why not give the long-suffering, frustrated Dominican people a chance to choose the way we want our future to look like?
And I know it didn’t work out so good for us the last time but..”give the young man a chance”..maybe he’ll encourage more lawyers, doctors, engineers, architects, nurses, bus-drivers, Dominicans to actually DO something instead of just “making noise” or, worst yet, “just languish in quiet desperation”.
I am confident you know what has happened in Dominica politics over the last twenty years. If the playing field was even, then I would totally agree with you. But you know what Skerro is going to do, and Wayne is not going to make a difference in the outcome.
He should join the other political parties and call for election reform, and not try to fragment the opposition forces fighting to provide a fair opportunity for every Dominican.

Barbados electoral system is not riddled with flaws. In fact, it is near perfect. Dominica’s electoral system is like a fishnet with loopholes for corruption.
Roosevelt acknowledged this when he paid $750 000 of tax payers’ money to Dennis Byron to rectify things. Now he has flushed that mammoth sum of money down the septic tank. This man’s dictatorial tendencies are out of control.
God has given each one of us a brain to think for ourselves. Some of you have rented it out to the leader of the only cultish organisation in Dominica.
It is not Roosevelt’s quackery.. What does that mean. Moving on if you love Dominica why don’t you step up and help your people?
In my opinion this attorney is sounding and looking more as a paid enemy of Dominica than a person that is ready to take on Skerrit and the DLP.
Personally speaking I believe the attorney is paid by the briber and destroyer to run for two reasons:
1. Chelsea Lockhart made it clear that she was not happy with the direction Skerrit is taking the country and as a result Skerrit tried to fire her. She stood her ground so Skerrit decided to pay this greedy attorney to stall her sure victory
2. The opposition has decided that they are not participating in the Skerrit election so to give the world the impression that the December 6 Stealelection of Skerrit is legit, he has decided to this greedy and shameless attorney to run. Don’t be surprised to hear more greedy attorneys and others join that Skerrit stealing and buying election
That man needs to be pull aside and have his head “properly examined”. He is nothing but a cabalist in disguise and must be dealt with as such. Those like him are the real enemies of the state. NO REFORM, NO ELECTION! Period! Anything else will be met with resistance by any means necessary to safeguard our democracy. The opposition was waiting on the report from Dennis, but instead was blindsided by the call for a snap election.
