Parliamentary Representative of Castle Bruce Constituency Octavia Alfred has announced that 29 Bay oil producers of Petite Soufriere have sold 1,946.50 pounds of oil to the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA). According to her, the Bay oil producers of Petite Soufriere are grateful that they could also benefit from the new programs the Government of Dominica put in place to support farmers on the island.
“On Wednesday, 29 Bay oil producers from Petite Soufriere sold a total of 1,946.50 pounds of oil to DEXIA,” she revealed. “The Bay oil producers are very thankful and they are very excited and some people who are new Bay oil producers are very excited…”
Alfred continued, “Young people are getting involved.”
Furthermore, Alfred said Bay oil production is a special kind of farming, “it may not fall under food production which includes the growing of crops and the rearing of animals.”
However, she acknowledged essential oils are becoming increasingly popular as many products such as air freshers, detergents, sanitizers, insect repellants, cosmetics, hair products as well as certain medications utilize natural oils as a substitute for harsh chemical-based products.
Alfred commended the number of young Bay oil producers in Petite Soufriere.
“The number we have there is very encouraging and we are happy for the commitment that the Government of Dominica has made to us as Bay oil producers,” she stated.
