Blossom Dominica: a new era of Dominican fashion (with video & photos)

The Dominican fashion scene has been revolutionized with the launch of Blossom Dominica, a project conceived by the multi-talented Kimara Matthew. As a fashion designer, event coordinator, entrepreneur, teacher, and health & wellness enthusiast, Matthew has introduced a fresh perspective to Dominican fashion, with a particular emphasis on the affordability of the national dress through the “Rent a Wobe” initiative.

The launch event held recently at the Alliance Française, was a resounding success. Matthew, known for her vibrant personality, expressed her excitement about the project. She highlighted the convenience that Blossom Dominica will bring to Dominicans living overseas, who can now access local products made primarily from madras fabric without leaving their homes. The new website, www.blossomdominica.com, offers a safe and enjoyable shopping experience for both contemporary and traditional Creole wear. The range of products includes Creole-inspired handbags, hats, fascinators, accessories, straw handbags, and soon, Creole shoes.

One of the standout features of Blossom Dominica is the “Rent a Wobe” collection. Matthew believes that the wob dwiyet, a traditional Dominican dress, should be a staple in every Dominican household. However, she recognizes that not everyone can afford to purchase a wobe due to financial constraints. The “Rent a Wobe” initiative addresses this issue, allowing Dominicans to access this beautiful national emblem without straining their finances.

Matthew’s journey in the fashion industry began with Finesse Beauty – House of Fashion, the parent company of Blossom Dominica. Her story is one of ambition, struggle, empowerment, and strength. Growing up in Dominica, Matthew experienced humble beginnings where clothing was considered a luxury. She recalls not being invited to a birthday party due to her worn-out clothing. This experience, coupled with the joy she felt when her mother bought her a simple yet decorative yellow dress for Christmas, left an indelible mark on her. It instilled in her a determination to use fashion to change her life and build a solid foundation for a brighter future.

Like many businesses, Finesse Beauty HOF faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Matthew used these obstacles as stepping stones, leading to the birth of Blossom Dominica. This project is a testament to her resilience and innovative spirit.

Blossom Dominica is more than just a fashion project; it’s a movement that celebrates Dominican culture, promotes accessibility, and empowers individuals through fashion. The “Rent a Wobe” initiative is set to make a significant impact on the Dominican fashion scene, making the national dress more accessible to all.

With Blossom Dominica, Matthew continues to defy odds, forge new paths, and contribute to the growth of the Dominican fashion industry. Her story serves as an inspiration for many, proving that with passion and determination, one can turn their dreams into reality.
