BREAKING NEWS: State of Emergency and curfew to take effect from midnight as Isaac draws nearer

The government of Dominica has announced an island wide curfew  from midnight on Wednesday Sept 12 to noon on Friday 14th September to coincide with the passage of Tropical Storm Isaac which is expected to reach the island early Thursday morning.

Minister for National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore, made the announcement at about 5:40 pm on Wednesday at a press briefing held by the National Emergency Planning Organization (NEPO).

Blackmoore said that the freedom of movement of citizens notwithstanding, the curfew was necessary to ensure the safety of the citizenry.

He said measures had been put in place to ensure that members of the essential services who had to work would be allowed to function “unimpeded.”

Those persons, along with others who had valid reasons to be out doors during the curfew hours, will be provided with special passes to facilitate their movement.

“So, in that regard therefore, if you do not belong to the essential services and you do not have a curfew pass, please stay indoors,” Blackmoore advised.

This is becoming an abuse of powers. There is no need for curfew, restricting movement of people is the same as imprisoning us. If the police want to add extra security in Roseau and reduce traffic in the city, that’s one thing, banning the free movement of people on the road is another.

We Dominicans have accepted this blindly, but this is easily open to abuse. The million dollar question is- if people want to loot, can the police stop them? Police were there during Maria and what happened? Police cant even give out traffic tickets, what benefits does this curfew have? Are there curfews enforced in other hurricane prone areas- is the USA under current curfew?

    Dominicans keep your eyes open.

So what if Dr Rev. Mcyntyre has to go and perform another funeral, does he be provided with a special pass to go perform his duty like he did during Maria? I already know if Joshua, Lennox, or any member of the opposition needs a pass to see what’s happening in secret or to save a person they will not be given one. What curfew? So what if those evil boys just need privacy to do their evil and dirty work for Skerrit’ . What if a plane from either Venezuela, China, Russia or North Korea land at 1 am this morning, with their CBI passengers ? Their curfew is one for sukuya and diab to do their evil work and has nothing to do with protecting lives

Tropical Storm Isaac forced curfew on Dominicans. Isaac I must say when you left uwp I felt like Inot voting for anyone again but now that you joined hurricane Skerrit and causing fear I must say my Act of countician because you really didn’t belong in the peaceful uwp camp. You belong to the distructive camp of Skerrit’ and your going there was ordained. You know what Isaac, your departure from uwp really reminds me of when Gideon had to face a very big and strong army and God had to take over and pick the 309 men Gideon needed . Storm Isaac you were not needed in the fight for freedom, righteousness and justice because you represent trouble, destruction, fear and confusion
