BREAKING NEWS: Marpin workers recalled

marpin logoNews reaching Dominica News Online (DNO) indicates that eleven employees who received letters of redundancy from Marpin 2K4 are being recalled.

A source close to the matter, told DNO that some of those employees have already received correspondence from Marpin 2K4 which rescind their letters of redundancy. We were told that the other affected Marpin employees are also expected to receive similar letters from the company.

Cameraman, Franklyn Peter, is among those who received a letter of recall from Marpin. He told DNO “I will be back at work tomorrow “

However, he was not able to give details about the other Marpin staff who had been made redundant. “I don’t have much more details on the matter.” Peter stated.

DNO is trying to reach WAWU, which is the union representing Marpin staff, on the matter.

Marpin 2k4 should be boycoted all customer should pull out thier account from this wicked company it only show that they had no legit reason to treat a hard working man like AGUSTINE BASCUNN JULLIANA who help to build this company SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU ALL.

My people, I’m happy too for the staff but keep in mind for how long. Remember they were wrongfully dismissed, so they hard to recall them, that does not mean that they have there jobs back. Rehiring them to make them redundant the legal way. Mark my words.

    I’m not rejoicing, just reality

If this news is true, this is a great decision. People do not treat loyal and dedicated employees like that. Brian Doctrove and a few others helped to build this company from the beginning and spent their lives buiding the Company. If someone has to be made redundant, it should not be them. And why isn’t Doctrove on the board anyway?

Only some Dominicans have an ungrateful gene and this whole situation should be a lesson for all loyal people looking for work.

KERTIST AUGUSTUS is one of the reasons why I am very proud to be a Dominican, This leading trade union hero in the Caribbean and former boss of the CCL Caribbean Congress of Labour continues to fight for the interests of Labour and has followed in the footsteps of his great GrandBarian cousin the indomitable NATION HERO Emmanuel Christopher Loblack.

I think that this is indeed the year for MR AUGUSTUS to receive his SISSEROU AWARD or any similar national reward for his tremendous contribution to the growth and development of the Trade Union Movement in Dominica and the region and beyond.

I am impressed with his rare intellect. his mastering of the English language, his deep belief ib God ( a devout Catholic ) and his impressive knowledge and application of LABOUR LAW. He is a national asset and continues to protect the rights of workers in Dominica.

LONG LIVE THE WORKERS AT MARPIN
    LONG LIVE KERTIST AUGUSTUS

WE THE PEOPLE APPLAUD YOUR EFFORTS
THEY CANNOT KEEP A GREAT ICONIC MAN DOWN
    YOUR ARE INDEED BLESSED

    THE PEOPLE LOVE YOU

The strongest arm of WAWU is the port branch, yet under Kurtist Augustus watch they had their pay cut almost by half, this situation is 10 years old and yet to be resolved whilst the workers suffer. So charity begins at home Mr. Augustus and his Union better get serious with port issues.

Marpin case was solved due to the public outrage that it generated. The politrixters had to get involved and reversed the dictate.

Kertist tell you is he that made Marpin take the workers back? Eh? Read the latest news on the subject and see what kertist himself is saying.

Its always wonderful to see people back on their jobs. The powers-that-be have buckled to puplic pressure from the Q95 talks shows. If there was no talk shows this bread and butter matter would have been swept under the carpets and the poor families of these workers would be left to suffer.

Marpin problem is with poor management. they recently doubled their rated yet they still want to fire the workers what a wicked condtradiction!

I am happy that the workers were reinstated for purely compassionate reasons. However, I must think that the board gave teh go-ahead for them to let these people go. If I were a board member I would resign. Somebody higher up decided to overdride the decision of the board, therefore they should henceforth run teh company. No board mewmber worth his salt would remain in that position. It is obvious that those higer up have no respect for their expertize and wisdom.

      March 5, 2013

True that, how secure eh? Till what or when again? Is pressure that was applied on them or the thought of losing customers to their competitor as well as staff or the lome some payoff that may have triggered that! And imagine having to get new staff in the not so distance future or aren’t “wet” with the technical experience, they’d suck salt for toffee

I am wondering what is behind all of this and in the final anaysis can the company afford the salaries in the long run. If I were those employees I would not get too settled there.

Well done Marpin. Very good decision. I pray that Marpin will be blessed with the means to survive in these trying economic times as a result of this great humane and tough business decision.

The sackings were badly timed. They would negatively impact Roosevelt Skerrits changes in the upcoming election. The company chairman was persuaded to rescind his decision for now.

    March 4, 2013

hmph! It was an illegal move. That is why they were re-called. Worse again, you sent home key ppls of the company.

Stupid move. Do you know how many customers would leave marpin just because of this?

    Eventully (1 – 2 months tops) 90%.

Any1 willing to contest this, doesn’t know. Just saying. =_=.

I hope this is a genuine recall and will be happy for alll those recalled. However, sometimes when due process was not followed to dismiss an employee, employers use this tactic: Rehire then follow due process and fire properly.

  28. Wow
    March 4, 2013

But they will leave at some point — just process…

I wonder if a certain Supremo “overturned” the Marpin Board of Directors decision to let go the employees like how him overturned the DBS Board of Directors decision last week?

Anyways I’m happy for the employees and their families. Thank the Lord.
