Earl ‘Seko’ Grant and Denny Shillingford have been charged in connection with the 2010 fire at the home of former magistrate GON Emanuel.

Dominica News Online (DNO) reported this morning, based on information from a well-placed police source that Grant, who was at the time being questioned by police, was expected to be charged with conspiracy in the matter.

Police PRO Inspector John Carbon confirmed to DNO this evening  that Grant has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson while Shillingford has been charged with arson.

The charges were filed on Wednesday evening when, under the constitution, the 72 hours during which Grant could be held by police for interrogation without charge, were to elapse.

Both men are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Following the fire in 2010, Grant was implicated in a confession by Denny Shillingford who claimed that he set the fire on Grant’s orders.

Shillingford confessed that he was paid in part to carry out the bombing on Emanuel’s home. He said he was coming clean because the organizers did not stick to their end of the bargain.

I see much of the so-called big names going to prison for the sake of ignorance. The ignorance is this: In times past the “Shillingfords” were clear-skined people who never went to jail. Now the black skined “Shillingfords” think that they have the same previledge. Astaphans, Royers, Armours and the like has become blacks once more. So they better watch it, and watch out.

Well it s interesting to see how Siko and Denny going to coexist at Stockfarm Prison. There is so much corruption at that prison that I just have a feeling that something is about t go down.

Remember the guy from Portsmouth that escape to New York from the prison. The circumstances under which he escape was and s questionable . Now I witness at the a hawian party that same escape prisoner and a former police commissioner stand within 10 feet of each other . My point is not one attempt was made by the then attorney general and law enforcement to have the guy extradited. Who was attorney general at the time ? Not a very difficult question at all .
No more need for speculation cause we te family of the victim know exactly wht appended when reparations were made to have the rapist walk off the Prison bus , driven to zportsmouth then to facilitate hs departure. Corruption , corruption corruption

If Denny Shillingford claimed that “he set the fire on Grant’s orders” and confessed that “he was paid, in part, to carry out the bombing on Emanuel’s home” and that he said “he was coming clean because the organizers did not stick to their end of the bargain”, why is he charged with Arson and the person who paid him is charged with conspiracy?

I wonder what are the skeptics thinking about Prevost at this moment?

Where are his critics; the ones who could not wait to see his efforts fail, where are the idiots who called me out of my name simply because I stated that our people are a bunch of sick people, those who contended that Prevost’s actions were nothing more than a theatrical stunt!

They could not wait and see what develops!

Now it appears the wheals of justice are turning, the outcome should be jail for both Grant and Shillingford, but then again a tainted and paid jury might be in place to upset, and derail justice.

I suggest those selected must be scrutinized before they are allowed to sit on a jury panel!

They must be investigated briefly, someone should check their assets, including their bank account, prior to the trial, and after the trial. We need to ensure that there are no blood (biological) relatives on both side of the equation on the jury simply to ensure an fair and unbiased conviction.

Finally, be the return of Grant to Dominica by the means of our judicial system, theatrical or not the show is on, and history was made. I do not know if any other member of the Dominica judicial system has extradited anyone back to Dominica to stand trial for any crime, if Provost is the first.

    He has created history!

What is wrong with the rule of law in Dominica today? Police Commissioner, Mr. Daniel Carbon, it was yesterday you told the nation that investigators were advised to investigate the matter involving Earl Grant and Denny Shillingford proffessionaly and properly with the view of finding the truth. Before the day was up we heard that both individuals were charged and would appear before the court on Thursday. Kodos and respect to you sir! There is no way they would be charged if there was not some evidence.
Having said this, I have some questions for you sir:
    1. I noticed that Denny Shillingford was charged with arson, while Earl Grant was charged with conspiracy to commit arson. Are you satisfied with the charge sir? As a layman where law is concerned, the fact that two individuals were in their house at the time of the firebomb, the charges should have been: Denny charged with arson and two counts of attempted murder of two persons, while Earl charged with conspiracy to commit arson and two counts of attemped murder. Mr. Carbon, if an individual fired a gunshot at another person although the bullet did not touch the individual fired at, if the gun used was recovered by the police, would that person not be charged for having a weapon and attempted murder?

    2. From day one, Denny told the nation that the reason he came out clean is because the organizers (plural) did not keep their (plural) side of the agreement. Is it not time to go after the others that form part of the organizers? I don’t think the local police will do a good job in going all out after the others; So please get foreign help to ensure we get to the bottom of this thing. Unless everyone involved is arrested and charged, we will all conclude that the law in Dominica is only for a few poor people. So let’s get them!

  18. May 30, 2013

ok here is the verdict. denny shillingford 15years, earl grant pay some money, he will appeal. appeal court decides not enough ground, then dismiss charges boy you free to go .bet on that.

The big question for these two individuals should be, “What motive did you have to commit this crime against Mr. Emmanuel?” If they had no prior relationship, issue or grudge against Mr. Emmanuel, the next question should be, “Then on whose behalf were the two of you acting?”

But that hate    that we Dominican show is to the highest level there. People talk about work or lack of work, but stay home and call every Radio talk show from 5am – 1pm. Don’t equip themselves with BASIC education or a skill but blame everyone else but themselves for not being part of a productive Dominica that they say they care for. Am seating home crying down Government, Doctors, Business people for not having a job or my every needs, while a foreigner comes here take the JOBS we call slave work or low end work or can’t make ends meet job and make the most out off that job. Note, the FOREIGNER has way more overhead (House Rent, all Light Bills, Water Bills, Phone Bills , Food, Transportation, Kids and Families and in some cases send money back to their Country. I don’t have to wait for a talk show host to tell me it’s all around me and you to see. Talk show host is not home seating so why should I just to blame someone else.

    • United Kingdom
      May 30, 2013

I agree with you. Only in DA, this grant guy should be charge with attempted murder, as far as I can see this is just a show, when it is all said and done these two individuals will be walking out free

Them little boys in DA, do not have what it takes to interrogate criminals and investigate crimes some of them who are being paid to serve and protect, they are much involved in criminal activities themselves, only in Dominica

Thanks to modern technology, what the law officials in Dominica need to know, Dominicans are not the only ones listening to whats happening on The Nature Isle

I do hope that justice will be serve, and the truth will be exposed, also when it is all said and done, Mr Emmanuel will receive justice and not a slap in the face

good observation: the case is not only about arson. The fact that the fire was started at an hour when Mr and Mrs Emmanuel were asleep is indicative that the perpetrators and their sponsors wanted the victims dead. For the grief and stress, Mr. GON. Emanuel may have suffered for approximately two years, not knowing what was going to happen to the case, bail for Seko should be refused. Seko should be imprisoned awaiting trial for three years in the first instance. If bail is granted, the famous passport which took approximately two years to be renewed, should be sized by the police.

He would be wrong, to take heat for them. But if you are really from St Joe and know the Secko I and other people know, some people better start committing suicide, because bright and flamboyant ain’t gonna take jail alone. Yo Pas konete.

born and raise —– dwiva and play nuff football in jouden……now back to the real issue. Not certain what was promised to my panda but he should speak the truth and end this all. He needs to be really careful in terms of what he eat and drink from them fellars. The guys in high places are Political “thugs” and will not hesitate to take him to save themselves. This is sad for me…watching patiently.

So if they are being charged for conspiracy >> Who are the people who actually aided and abetted in the crime? So Mr. Police Commissioner , dont take too long to arrest the others , Don’t matter who they are.

Wicked! wicked! wicked! is my only cry to those who tend to be all over their F/h and want to direct every thing taking place in Dominica. Is it me? or is it because with technology news travel real fast and every body with a computer seems to think they are automatic experts on every thing and every body? Some of the same people who were blowing hot air over the seeminly slow pace of this case are the same ones commenting on all sorts of cover up and framing “BS”. what is wrong with my people?? I would really want to know, for those same persons do not know what they really want, cause they want to be in every thing,SMFH”.Let me congratulate the police and all those associated with this investigation and other investigations, thanks for your hard work, in this times every body is every thing and seems to want things their way or the high way. It has become every so clear to me whilst on training to become a police officer, we were alway reminded that every man can call himself a man, but, not every body can be a police officer and have what it takes to remain focus on the job at hand instead of flip flooping at every turn. Keep up the great work Guys and ladies { Those who are committed to the job} hats off to you all –you make us proud to have served continue to do the job without fear or favour regardless of who falls off, and breach the Law of our land. Keep hope alive God is watching over his good soldiers.

Stop the press! I thought you were going to show Dominicans and St Joe people you can come home and walk tall? You better start to sing like a canary because I bet that’s not what you were promised why you were so comfident. Are you going to have that hanging over your head jail or nit while other people walk around proud and boldface? Is this what you have to offer your kids? You would be well wrong to go and languish in jail and let people ride high! You have no connection to Mano neither does Denny but you all have a friend in common, ………….by extension no matter how hard they try it leads to the very top! Topple the deck of cards. Why you mad at the person Senjoeman? just asking? Rejoicing? Try Hooked on Phonics, you might learn a thing or two. Is that what you got from the persons message? Your turn maybe coming likewise, careful what you wish for others.Did anybody send him and conspire to burn down two senior citizens? Secko placed himself in that situation, and so he has to deal with his fate, I suggest you get off your high horse and examine your evil conscience.

      • I Die Nuh
        May 30, 2013

@ Senjoeman your anger is misplaced. The blogger is not responsible to feel sorry for a man who being of sound mind at the time and even to this day, paid another to set ablaze Mr Emmanuel and his wife Gretta, hopefully leaving no trace of their existence on this earth. If you are mad at people for calling him out, then you are even more dangerous than him. Get it through your head, the police had to have had enough evidence mounting against him to charge him with such brutality. Would you have wanted that for your family? Some of you are sick with blind loyalty. Secko and all those along in the pack must pay, and if he so decides not to rat on them well that is his business, but his spirit must remain restless and tortured for what he hand a hand in doing. All of them and you have to pay for this for eternity. Haven’t you heard the pain of Mr Emanuel on the radio? this transcends politics, class, creed, colour? When did we become so barbaric to even set people homes on fire while they sleep to shut them up?

What about that Judicial review, (stalling tactics), granted re. the famous case Emanuel vs. Isidore, where the former lawyer filed 42 charges of alledged fraud and other corrupt practices against the latter lawyer? How long now?

Didn’t the Chief Magistrate issue a warrant, more than a year now, which was sent to the former Chief of police, for the arrest of Isidore? Wasn’t the Court’s Order disobeyed? Has he been arrested at all? Why? Why? Why? “Gwo Bougs?”

Way papa!!!!!! Was it the same court (Magistrate) which still granted the same man Judicial review, a stay of the case from being heard in court? The same man oui the same court wanted arrested. Bon Dieu, oh la justice Domnik kouwi sayway.

Judicial Review? How looooooong, nuh? So case close then? The same way Sicko, Seco has been arrested to answer questions as an accomplice in that horrific firebombinbg of Emanuel’s home, Isidore must be arrested to answer questions about the charges of fraud filed by Emanuel. The Court’s order was disobeyed. The Magistrate was belittled. Law and Order, in our peaceful Land, received a dangerous Left hook to the head.

Dominicans are watching. Justice must be seen to be done. Justice has been delayed for too long. We must never loose sight of the links in the chain.

    May 29, 2013

I hope the is not a publicity stunt, and a soon to be appointed magistrate…….will fee Earl Grant and Denny Shillingford will continue to serve behind bars. I am holding my breath on this one. I will be following this case with great interest and hope there will be fairness in the verdict of this case. Something is extremely suspicious of this sudden disclosure by the acting DPP and the sudden return of Earl Grant to Dominica.
This circus was all arranged , by the big boys involved in this case to see Danny Shillingford being incaserated for many years for Earl Grant’s crime.
Earl grant must serve some time behind bars. I strongly believe he will be a free man and Danny will rot in jail.

This circus is an arrangement by the acting DPP, the soon to be appointed magistrate from Grenada and the ‘big boys’ in government.

Let’s follow this case with interest people.

If not why did my friend that I played football and cricket with is the fall guy for someone else’. This is getting real because he is now at risk of getting his character tarnish. While I am not saying if he did it he should be punish, I just feel there is a lot more to this crap and I hope he does not go down alone because Grant has a clean police record before this and has not been a trouble maker in or out of D/a. Seco must have had conspired with some other people before engaging denny..
