60 local manufacturers for ‘Buy Dominica Carnival Extravaganza’

Products from last year’s installment of “Buy Dominica”

About 60 local manufacturers and Art and Craft producers will come together to put on another “Buy Dominica” event.

The event is geared at promoting the sale of local products and raising awareness of products manufactured locally.

President of the Dominica Manufacturers Association and one of the organizers of the event, Saverin McKenzie, said the ‘Buy Dominica Carnival Extravaganza’ is a follow up of the first event held last Christmas.

He emphasized that the event is a marketplace for people to purchase local goods.

“We want to emphasize that it is not an expo it is a marketplace for people to come and buy,” he stressed.

McKenzie told Dominica News Online that the eventual objective of the “Buy Dominica” series is to set up a permanent supermarket-type area which will give customers the opportunity purchase locally made products at any time.

The Buy Dominica Carnival Extravaganza will be held from Wednesday 6th February, 2013 to Wednesday 13th, 2013 at the Roseau Market.

Various products including Kalinago craft, locally made liquers and fruit drinks among others, will be on sale at the event.

    Wonderful Idea.
However more than just an Expo or Market Place is the correct measurement/valuation of the contribution of the various sub-industries in economic terms to the overall Economy. People need to begin to keep and submit records towards this end. This is the best if not the only way to attract investment to further the industry. One Love!

What does this government care about?AGRICULTURE…IS NOT THEIR DAM BUSINESS, AGRO-PROCESSING… IS NOT THEIR DAM BUSINESS, MANUFACTURING… IS NOT THEIR DAM BUSINESS we need help, when the Antigua farmers grow cucumbers no importer gets license to import cucumbers or other crops that are available at the time. When Barbados grows sweet potatoes no importer gets license to import y can the same apply for our locally made goods. We are at the mercy of the supermarkets in Dominica if they want to handle your local goods it will be done when their own imported stock runs out, Minister of trade, Agriculture and PM we need help to continue doing business in this country.

Doesn’t the article tell you in its penultimate paragraph that the event will take place at the Roseau Market? Why are people still asking about the location?

I think that the government should set up an online website where people can purchase these products. Where as, all small entrepreners can advertise their products together under one roof, e.g. Amazon, someone can purchase anything they chooses, but it can be from different companies. I think the locals would benefit more from such scheme and it would be properly monitored.

An old capenter once told me;It is better to measure twice and cut once,to cut down on waste.
This should apply to most of us who like to comment;we should read twice so we can make a sensible comment.the location is right there and more than one person asking for location.that’s how easy it is to misinterpret things,
    just an observation.

Ok nowhere in the article did a read a location for this welcome sales event. I see the date and what will be on offer but no time and no place. If you want people to come give all the information and advertise it widely.

this is good to know. NOW ADVERTISE it, all the newspapers, posters, flyers, across the island.
Is there any cruise ships in on those days ???
ADERVERTISE it down on the bay front where the tourist coming off the ship can see it and point them in the right direction. Have people handing out leaflets on the bay front. Don’t just leave it to D N O or the radio.
